I think you need to put your foot on the brake pedal before releasing the parking brake. There is also AutoHold to experiment with in a similar way to the parking brake.

I reckon we’re broadly in agreement that there is too much poor driving on the roads and too much aggressive behaviour by drivers, as well as over zealous, self righteous self-enforcers. And yes, mobile apps are not the way to go. If the amateur video footage is do poor I don’t understand why it is that police forces invite submissions. Sad to read. Hope injuries are not too serious. This morning on the busy, fast flowing A34, Berkshire, I was grateful for the front assist on the Octavia Mk4. Traffic in my lane up ahead braked hard, I reacted when seeing the van ahead high-level brake light come on - but the Octy reacted quicker than I did and we all came to a halt safely. First time I’ve experienced the assist systems working at/near full potential, and hopefully the last!

I’ve not found a setting for it either. I use my phone connected via CarPlay though, and from memory, it’s the same with Android Auto. Never used the traditional (pre CarPlay/AA) type connection in my Mk4. Since I’ve had the latest s/w in my car I now get turn directions via CarPlay in the top centre of VC as well as the Infotainment screen.

Can see where you’re coming from. It’s a shame that the minority over zealous reporters clog the system when there are genuinely dangerous situations which need to be reported and otherwise would go unseen (such as the example I mentioned, the 85mph was on the hard shoulder of a congested motorway). Whilst high speeds are not in themselves dangerous it’s all about context and behaviour of the driver that can make it dangerous, and likely as not when something goes wrong its innocent folk that injured.

Fair point, but it did achieve 61mpg over 1000 miles from the Tuscany coast, over the Simplon Pass and finishing up in village high in the Jura mountains, a net climb off about 3000 feet.

Totally agree. Driving style, journey length, road type, traffic conditions all have a bearing on real world figures. Much to my surprise, my 1.5tsi averages are better than the WLTP brochure figures. Overall average since purchase (22,300 miles) : 54.9mpg Best 'three tank' average : 59.98 mpg That three tank average was on a European road trip so most mileage was motorway, autoroute, autostrada at legal limits where traffic and weather conditions permitted (anything from about 60 - 80 mph (100 - 130 kph))

OK Mr Cynic. How about 85mph down the hard shoulder of a congested three lane motorway in a builders van, as recorded on my dashcam? Nobody in their right mind would send in a dashcam footage of 33 in a 30 limit.

This may well come over as being defensive, but I worked for 20+ years in IT for a UK Govt department - and it's not only their systems that don't have a good track record. Many my peers in private industry had, by their own admission, dreadful systems, and in the case of one energy supplier a director told me couldn't believe how bad their systems were. It is just the case that if its a Govt system then it hits the headlines. BTW - the system I wrote was fantastic 😏 Anyway, back on topic; my local Police had a web site through which dashcam footage could be uploaded - alas every time I went to use it, it was down. @PetrolDave may well have a point....

Given the flap locks with the central locking sounds like a fault in that system. They should cover that.

There is a set of three buttons low on the dash near the drivers door; the right hand one is illuminated with Auto. When the headlights are on there is also a bulb symbol illuminated above the word Auto. Additionally, the infotainment screen (notable the satnav map) changes to ‘night mode’, even in daylight if the headlights are on.

Welcome to the forums… Sounds like you need to get the dealer to apply all the updates to your car. CarPlay and ACC have been fixed for many on this forum. I’ve not come across the SatNav issue mentioned, but guess updates will help. I don’t have a hybrid so can’t help on that one. You're right about the economy though, I’m very impressed with my 1.5tsi.

You’re right; and I stand corrected. Selecting the radio player as the full screen app does indeed return when starting teh car again, with the favourites showing. I based my earlier reply on my initial experience of my Octy4 two years ago and meant many versions older infotainment s/ware without checking first 🙄 @TheWanderer - hope you’ve got yours working to your liking… Note to self - check what else is now soooo much better than in the earliest versions.

By way of encouragement to some, but no doubt add to the frustration felt by @AllanDJ (sorry mate), today a 75 mile drive with a dismantled IKEA double bed frame & mattress in the back of my estate. No beeps or warnings from the rear seat sensors.

I’m the same. Bought a physically small but high capacity USB-C stick but usually use Spotify and CarPlay. Voice control works well with the USB source though, probably better than it does with Spotify - mainly because it’s a play this or that rather than a ‘search for’ type request. Way off topic though! BTW, for the 8.5k miles I drove a 1.0 e-tec DSG I thought the “hideous DSG gear selector” was wonderful - so much so I wish my current manual ‘box was DSG. Next time…

It’s very easy to become frustrated with the infotainment system in the Octy IV, and I had to fight hard not to! It’s things like this where a few familiar buttons are so easy to use! I had to work hard at the different ways of doing things, but after a wee while found it really quite useable. The voice control is pretty good, especially for radio stations and temperature, less so for navigation (or I haven’t learnt the syntax yet!)

By radio station presets, are you referring to what they now call ‘Favorites’? I’ll assume so for now. Short answer is you can’t. (Or if it can be done I haven;’t found it, yet). Best I have come up with (as in how I find it easiest to operate) is to use the two buttons on the lower left hand spoke of the steering wheel to cycle through the Favorites. Works for me, but then I only have three in that list. Alternatively, a tap on the radio portion opens it full screen; then drag from the right (or was it the left, I can’t remember, sorry!) to display the favourites. The screen layout can be configured; a ‘touch and hold’ will bring up the edit screen. Multiple ‘Home’ screens can be created and the cells configured within each. You probably found most/all of this already anyway; if so, apologies for stating the bleeding obvious…

I'm curious! Could you attach a photo so we can better advise. Whilst my car isn't a hybrid so different considerations may apply, but I leave mine until only the final bar is lit up - and it turns red at this point (along with a beep and an orange fuel pump lit up, and the satinet asking if I want to navigate to a petrol station). In fact, I gave up counting the number of ways the car tells me to fill up - one of the funniest things about the car to honest, especially as I have been driving for 47 years and only once ran out of fuel in my first car (with a faulty gauge).

Compared to when I bought my first new car 40 odd years ago I’m not too concerned, but out of habit I do still avoid long steady speed runs for the first couple of thousand miles. Sometimes change my route or periodically I’ll either reduce road speed or drop a gear or two to change the rpm for a few minutes.
