2068458 Columbus unit shows units in metric and not imperial
Grrr… I feel your pain. Keep on at the dealer. My last update, scheduled for one day along with a service turned in to a three day job (at their request, and I got to keep the courtesy car for that period at no cost). I was told the first attempt failed and on investigation they found a couple more “minor” updates - which appeared to be prerequisites. Seems some dealers (or master technicians) are more diligent than others. Fortunately mine seems pretty good.

KPH/MPH
The kph/mph fix is not directly related to infotainment system version 1896. Mine was fixed September 2021 whilst on a much lower version (can’t remember which at the mo). Chase the dealer for all updates etc and don’t give up! yep, what @varooom said.

Smart Motorway
Perhaps a contentious thought - but why all the fuss about smart motorways? Before I get hit by a wave of exasperated sighs etc, consider how they compare to the many dual carriageways on which cyclists, scooters, slow moving farm traffic etc are all permitted. And there are no cameras or overhead signs. I’ve just had the doubtful ‘pleasure’ of driving the A23 from Crawley to Brighton, and am a regular user of the A34 from Winchester to Oxford. In some parts these roads are narrower than any smart motorway, have tighter bends and shorter acceleration/deceleration lanes. If we ban smart motorways why not the A23 & A34?

Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto
That’s fair; and to be honest on long runs I sometimes have the passenger side at a higher temperature than mine as driver - and can feel a nice warm air flow around my shoulders.

Wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto
Nice layout/design, looks good. I’m not an Android user and am only commenting because I noticed the temperature you have set. If I had it at 24C I’d be falling asleep 🙄 I rarely go above 21C!

Memory seat buttons
Definitely not illuminated in mine. Can’t remember, but are the memory seats the only ones which are heated? Could the error relate to that?

MK4 CarPlay
Not sure which feature you’re referring to, but if it’s CarPlay then it should be built in to the car and any modern-ish iPhone. There are setup sequences in the infotainment system settings for both CarPlay (iPhone) and AndroidAuto (funnily enough for android phones). They should connect by wireless but the latter needs a more modern version for wireless connection; both work with usb.

Octavia Mk iv trip meter
Yes, both. The trip meter as we knew it has gone, but it is there in some form - the driving data : Since Start, Since Refuel, Long-term. They can be reset on demand depending on the need (except since refuel). The Since Start automatically resets itself after about 2 hours of the car being turned off and the Long-Term automatically after 99hr 59min or (I think) the equivalent of 9999Km. Can be displayed on the Virtual Cockpit ( the dashboard of old) or one of the Infotainment screens. Initially, I missed the trip meter but not any more. What's there is more than enough for my needs, and proved useful on a four week road-trip to Tuscany last year.

Skoda Connect Not Connecting
I’ve had the occasional glitch but not recently. Could be that the car took a while to pick up the updated subscription; starting it and moving it maybe gave enough time &/or the ‘power cycle’ it needed. Other than that, dunno…

Spare wheel and accessories
Very helpful, thank you.

Spare wheel and accessories
@Carlston that's really useful to know. I now need to source the spare wheel & tyre - but don't like the idea of the €220 that @zorglub mentions. Maybe I'll look for an off-brand steel rim and a budget tyre; then consider the spare for minimal use until I can get the 'proper' one fixed. Guess there are a few pitfalls in that approach though - so have to be careful to get the right rim.

Skoda Connect Not Connecting
Which service(s) did you resubscribe to? When I did mine back in November I did two services : Infotainment Online (£36) and Care Connect - Remote Access (£30). AIUI, it is the latter that is needed for the remote lock/unlock function.

Spare wheel and accessories
I'd like to get a spare wheel kit for my SEL First Edition Estate - to include all the tools (jack, spanner, etc) and any foam fittings to replace the current inflation kit etc. Any suggestions on the best place to buy one in UK (other than a main dealer)? Thanks

Service schedule 1.5tsi
IIRC, they come with the variable service interval which assumes something like 10+k miles are - so 2 years or 20k miles. The alternative is an annual service which given your situation is what I would choose. The dealer can set the car to fixed interval so the reminders in car make more sense.

Skoda Octavia buying guidance
I’m driving a 1.5tsi manual; as others have said it’s a good engine, powerful enough and economical on fuel. I have driven a 1.0 mild-hybrid DSG Octavia mk4 for 8.5k miles (long story in another thread), I would buy a DSG next time, but with the 1.5 engine. I’m borderline for a diesel in terms of annual mileage and balancing costs etc.

There’s already a couple of threads on here about that…

2068458 Columbus unit shows units in metric and not imperial
It was after a few weeks i got a call from Škoda UK to say that they had a, I think, 7 or 9 cars with the same fault so escalated it to the factory. They asked to use mine as a trial installation of the fix - thankfully it did the job. The bulk of the five months was s/w diagnostics and development [aka bug fix].

Buying advice mk3 or mk4?
I came to a mk4 estate from a 2014 Superb ‘S’ twin door. Looked at a late mk3 (2019/20) Octavia but the trim plastics felt like a down grade whereas the mk4 a big upgrade. It’s a far nicer place to be. Early mk4 cars, esp the SEL, had s/ware issues (mine was at the dealers for five months whilst Škoda ran diagnostics and developed a fix. Loan car was provided). So, if you do go for a mk4 check that ALL updates are applied by the dealer and that the ACC works properly (ie doesn’t get confused and thinks you’re driving on the right). Also, that the speedometer can display kph, and satnav miles (at first mine could do neither!). The mk4 is very economical, my 1.5tsi manual returning an overall 56+mpg across 18k miles. On a long run it can be upwards of 62mpg depending on traffic and road types. My loan car was an 1.0 e-Tec Octavia DSG estate; powerful enough with similar economy over 8+k miles. Zero s/ware issues with that car (70 plate, SE First Edition). My recommendation is aim for a mk4, subject to my caveats above.

Car Play mapping pixilation
A couple of short 10 minute drives this afternoon and both Waze and Google Maps were fine via CarPlay. Hopefully your dealer can get an update or two for your car and get it sorted.

Car Play mapping pixilation
I use CarPlay (wireless connection) but haven’t noticed that effect. Having said that, I use Apple Maps (works fine, and with turn directions shown top centre of the virtual cockpit) or the built in satnav; not used Wave or Google maps for a long time (and certainly not since the last car updates in September). Some other folk have mentioned a problem with Waze and CarPlay, they get a reddish corrupted display - does that sound like your issue? I’m curious so will try Waze and Google maps next time I’m out. Perhaps you could try Apple Maps, and see if it’s Waze/G maps specific. BTW, I’m on iOS 16.2

"Error: drive system. Please visit workshop" and unable to start car
I’ve not come across such errors so can’t help, sorry. Is your VRS a manual or DSG? Might help others track it down.
