New Octavia - niggles and questions...
@GWoodhouse I came from a 14-plate Superb S to the SE L FE a while back. A massive step up in gizmos and infotainment systems. Absolutely love it! I use Apple Car play not Android Auto, but from memory earlier versions of the Mk4 Octy weren't able to use wireless Android Auto. There was a s/ware update for the car which sorted it but not sure if all h/ware versions can support it. Also, older Android versions don't support wireless connection. For the screen brightness somewhere there is an auto setting, like MCG1975 I set mine up a good 18 months ago so can't remember exactly where in the menus it is. Best guess at the mo. is Car--> Interior --> .... Could well be wrong on that though! SatNav brightness & night mode, I think, is in the Nav settings. Door mirror positions is with the personalisation, either (or both) the car user or the key if you have electric memory driver seat. Mine now sets according the the user which is associated with the two different keys. SD card --> USB - I bought a small USB-C stick on Amazon. A few quid for 64GB which is more than enough for my music library. Interestingly, it also supports video playback! Out of curiosity I tried it out once when parked up on the drive. Hopefully the system is clever enough to prevent the driver watching a movie whilst actually driving! Hope you continue to enjoy the car. They are lovely and surprisingly economical.

Octavia e-TEC hatch - 1.0 or 1.5?
Context: My 1.5tsi manual estate was used by Škoda UK to assist diagnose the much commented kph/mph issue. Was off the rod for five months during which time I had a loan 1.0e-tec DSG estate. I covered 8500 miles in the loan car. Economy: In my 1.5tsi, overall I’m doing about 55-57mpg, with a high proportion of long journeys at steady speed motorway/major road driving. In the 1.0e-tec, it was a few mpg less, about 53 or so. Having said that, the 1.0 loaner had about 2k miles on when I got it. My 1.5 has improved economy significantly since passing about 12k miles. I reckon the 1.0 was loosening up too, so I guess economy would be similar. Performance/Load-lugging: The 1.0 e-Tec doesn’t have the same grunt as the 1.5 tsi manual but was very drivable and I was surprised at how well it coped with all situations. The DSG box helped in that regard, keeping the revs up when needed. I never felt it lacking - but never had a full boot with four people on board. So, if you’re likely to have a full load for a good proportion of the time then lean towards a 1.5; otherwise the 1.0 would probably be enough; which is when the specification level of SE vs. SE L would come in to the equation, along with price. Hope that helps a bit…

Mk4 Estate electric boot
If the dealer has done any testing then it will be linked to your account on their systems - which means it may be covered by the data privacy and access laws. I'm no expert but it may be worth looking in to it and then submitting a Subject Access Request for a copy of all data linked to you.

Hybrid versus petrol and diesel: a comparison of real-life fuel consumption
Agreed. Aerodynamics and a 1.5tsi manual; return leg from a few days away - 271 miles at 57mph average (a lot of motorway at 70mph and some minor & urban roads) and 64.5 mpg. Similar on the way there. More urban roads but still got over 62mpg.

Eco Telemetry on VC
Should be able to select it from the steering wheel controls in the same way as other diving data (eg average mpg since start). Some sort of G meter implying how ECO the driving is. Never used it! I use the average consumption figure as a measure of my ‘ECO-ness’

Skoda Connect App Store Choices
Take a look in this thread, may answer your question…

Unable to choose service partner in app
I reckon you’d need to create and log in to a Škoda account (but you probably did that anyway to set your user in the car). It may be that you need to be set up as the Primary User of the car/app. If so, then you’d need to get a dealer to do that and they’ll need proof of ID and ownership as it enables vehicle tracking (and all the privacy implications of that). Other than that, I’m stumped.

Sat Nav works in KM rather than Miles
With my car the speedo could not display KPH which is what alerted me to the issue as I was planning a European road trip. By the sounds of it @Mark Hiscock has the same issue hence the conversion table - a quick scan of that is a lot safer than the mental arithmetic.

Sat Nav works in KM rather than Miles
Yes, mine had a hardware change so could be a supply issue as you mention. Whilst it’s encouraging that there is a fix it must be massively frustrating not being able to get it applied. I feel for you guys, and also feel mightily privileged to have had a fix installed. @Derwent may be if you share the info I mentioned earlier with your dealer they can put a bit more pressure on Škoda UK and push for a release of the fix. Every little helps, as they say.

Sat Nav works in KM rather than Miles
The satnav in km is a known problem. Škoda UK had my car at the dealers for 5 months whilst they identified the fault and developed a fix. Mine was the first in the UK to get that fix as a test. Been fine ever since! Look back through the KPH/MPH thread in this forum - a long (very long) tale of woes and frustration for many of us. Some rejected their car before the fix came along (and with other issues on top). The fault in mine also included the Speedo unable to display kph, could only get mph regardless of changing settings. So, speedo - only mph; satnav - only km. Crazy! All ok now though. There is a fix, and I understood the plan was to roll it out across all cars affected. For the rear wiper, there is something in the settings to disable the auto wipe when the front ones are on. I turned it off about 18 months ago when I first got the car (ex. demo at 6 months old).

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
Can’t quite remember the sequence (and it’s late!) but if you scroll to and select settings and then go Right with the arrow below you should see a list of items to display with the dial. Can select (as in tick) the various data items for each of Since Start, Since Refuel, Long Term. They should then appear in the scroll options for that dial.

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
I reckon that car speedos and trip counters 40 years ago were so inaccurate that to rely on the 1/10th mile is a false hope. To assume a precision of 1/10th does not imply accuracy. Anyway, it seems you have a specific requirement I suggest a car speedo is the wrong tool for the job. Get over it. There is so much information in these cars that is easily accessible I'd call it a design success. Have a fiddle with the views on teh main Infotainment screen and you'll find a myriad of options to suit the vast majority of needs.

Missing clock on Dashboard
The Virtual Cockpit (VC) unit is what we know as the dashboard.

Missing clock on Dashboard
I have a SEL First Edition, registered Sept 2020. When I collected it there was no clock on the virtual cockpit, only at the bottom of the Infotainment screen. The VC unit was swapped Sept ‘21 as part of a fix for the KPH/MPH issue - I then had a clock.

At long last... SW Version 1896
Just a thought, did it coincide with the latest IOS update? Could some minor incompatibility crept in (but I guess that would impact more than just you).

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
When scrolling through the items to display did you go in to settings? In there you can enable/disable various items. As for the clock in the virtual cockpit, I think the early SEL First Edition models didn’t have it, mine didn’t - but the VC unit was replaced as part of the fix for the KPH/MPH issue and the replacement had a clock (but even after a year I usually forget it’s there and glance at the main infotainment unit 🙄

Time and Distance Travelled Displays on the dashboard
I did pretty much what @inspectorman mentioned when on a road trip recently. Reset the Long-term data before setting off for 2500 miles over 3 weeks. Worked well for the overall view with the Since Refuel being useful when I accidentally filled up with ‘E5 Performance’ (my best translation from Italian). Economy was phenomenal for that tankful 👍 And yes, Since Start resets itself after turning off for about 2 hours. The any of the three data sets can be displayed within the speedo or tachometer dials on the Virtual Cockpit, just a bit of fiddling with the selector wheel/knob.

Usb charging
Have a look at the latter part of this thread; the wireless charging pad I bought (as mentioned early on in the thread) fits well but no longer available. There are others mentioned

Assisted lane change making its way into Octavia Mk IV
Indeed. But I’d rather drive my 2020 Octavia Mk4 than the Singer Chamois I had in 1976! That’s a very good point. I’m only too pleased that the tech issues I had in the days of my Octy4 were sorted in it’s first 12 months.

Assisted lane change making its way into Octavia Mk IV
Having watched this I feel it’s something I would quite like to have on a future car. However, I suspect it’d be like ACC only more so - works best on motorways which aren’t too busy. I’d like to see VAG do a repeat of that test done on a busy fast moving stretch of motorway (e.g. on the M6 north of Birmingham or the M25). Over time the technology will improve and we’ll all wonder how we ever managed without it. In a few generations people will look back with incredulity that we had drive these things ourselves! I’m excited for developments like these, and wish my driving time was starting now not 45+ years ago.

Assisted lane change making its way into Octavia Mk IV
A very good point. On the M27 near me it's a nightmare - joints in the concrete surface, old white lines blacked out, remains of roadworks marking blacked out, and new (and wearing quickly) white lines. Enough to confuse any driver (and lane assist) in the best of conditions, but then add damp surface and low sun angle. I can sense a disaster waiting to happen...

Skoda Octavia IV pictures thread
The wheels are 17" Rotate Aero Alloys and it's a SE L First Edition. Has a few bells & whistles over the then SE L such as heated seats, electrically adjustable drivers seat with memory (very useful as I'm about 10" taller than my wife), and the surprisingly useful Blind Spot Detection. Hope you enjoy your new car...

Headlamp deflectors in france
As @fox2319 says, if you have the Matrix lights then you’re OK without deflectors. Otherwise, with the standard LED lights fitted to UK Octy 4s then you DO need them. This thread discussed at some length…
