  1. Interesting points raised, and differing opinions. @J.R. is right, the more you look at the video the more you see. Not sure about an oncoming car in the distance - need to watch it on a screen bigger than my phone. Is it me seeing things or does the OP move further right towards the verge as the red Ferrari start to move out? Seems there was a split second decision - move over and [more] power/acceleration OR back off and hit the brakes. About 20-30 years ago I’d have just kept my foot in; today, I wouldn’t have tried the overtake (and feel good about saving a millilitre of fuel 🙄). Somehow I managed to avoid several accidents when I had no right to do so. Quite frightening when I look back at some of those very, very near misses.
  2. That makes sense, and fits with the reply from @SkOmk4.
  3. I think with the Octy4 Škoda decided the D stands for “you Don’t need to know” instead of Drive 😉
  4. I’m wondering… - How long before cars follow pretty much everything and end up made in China? - How worried I should be (given warnings such as those with the 5G infrastructure a wee while ago). - What would be the long term impact on UK/Europe position in the global economy. - Am I over thinking all this?
  5. I'm taking mine in to the dealers in a couple off weeks to do a few jobs under warranty and [hopefully] install s/w v1941 - and it was only two days ago, after a couple of reboots of the infotainment system, the radio turning itself on and a warning that both DRLs needed checking (when they're fine) did I add to my note to give to the dealer "My confidence in this car is waning, again!" I should be using your wording 😂 I think I might have said In this forum (or thread) before, this Octavia Mk4 is the best car I have ever owned - but it's also the worst. Hopefully, after the dealer visit the car will swing back towards the "best car..." again.
  6. A while back my SEL FE was on 1668 which did have some issues; the dealer updated it to 1896 which is where it is now. It took the dealer two steps (and several days) to get there - presumably through 1762. It's back there in a couple of weeks during which time I hope they update it to 1941 (or later if a further update exists). @varooom you have been an absolute star, sharing so much valuable information and help to other Biskodians in this thread (and others). Thank you very much, and enjoy your leave.
  7. I found this in the digital user manual I have in my phone. Hopefully some help…
  8. Nothing quite as simple as the good old fashioned trip meter. But there are three mileage readings the the infotainment system. Since Start, Since Refuelling, Long Term. The since start and long term can be reset to zero whenever you want. Since start auto resets after a couple of hours parked up. Long term auto resets at 99h59m or the mileage equivalent of 9999km. None of them give decimals of miles which seems odd as the car calculates consumption to decimals of mpg. Anyway, after a few weeks using the Mk 4 I got used to the foibles of the pseudo trip meters.
  9. Given the numbers depict year.month, then I'd suggest it's bad - but only if you use the inbuilt satnav.
  10. That’s a shame, and frustrating! I’m out of ideas now, hopefully some more familiar with AA than I am can help.
  11. Looks like a couple of options... https://ipoki.com/how-to-make-android-auto-full-screen/ or https://www.gearrice.com/update/how-to-put-any-app-in-full-screen-in-android-auto/
  12. Is it not the virtual button just below the Microphone? I use CarPlay and there is something similar in that, so just a guess!
  13. That is useful for the dealer as the TPI text includes...
  14. Massively frustrating for you. My 70 plate had the 'won't let me overtake' fault (along with several other faults) but it was updated nigh on two years ago. It's pretty good now, just occasionally will it get confused and try to prevent overtaking (like once in three or four months). A tap on the throttle pedal sorts it. I've got used to using ACC now, it's just a bit different to normal CC, albeit frustrating until I got my head around the way it works and adapted my driving to make the most of it. Overall, I now prefer ACC to normal CC. Currently on S/W 1896, with the car going to the dealers in a few weeks for other stuff so I've asked they update to 1941 at the same visit.
  15. Before replacing, have you checked the right buckle is being used. The centre belt doesn't clip into the outer buckle and vice versa.
  16. Mine is a manual, but I did drive a DSG Octavia Mk4 for a few months. In S mode, if you use the paddles it stays in ‘manual’ mode. In D mode, it returns to auto after a little while. Heres a couple of pages from the digital user manual I downloaded a while back…
  17. Just had a look at my Direct Line policy. Section 2: Fire and Theft: ... Theft of car keys : Limit £1000 Section 4: Accidental damage:... Loss of car keys : Limit £1000 They may not be the cheapest but certainly at the time of last renewal, the best value for the cover I wanted (and I didn't even think about lost keys at that time).
  18. That's a good shout, I'm going to check mine and if it doesn't find out what the top up premium is. On the assumption that at some point pretty much everyone loses a key, and I haven't in 40+ years of motoring - so statistically it's becoming more likely as each year goes by (plus I'm getting older...). No help to @Jonop, sorry. Hope you can source one at a more reasonable cost though I guess @TheWanderer could well be right.
  19. Sounds like a house sparrow 😂😂 Joking aside, my thoughts are some form of pressure release valve, linked to the turbo perhaps which when at higher revs the pressures are more balanced.
  20. No Google service, nor my browser, on my phone has access to the location; and no, I don't use Google Maps or Waze for navigation. But this is way off the topic of virtual cockpits...
  21. I can think of a bunch of reasons not to have Google in my car (privacy etc. etc.) but that aside, why not use maps that are not Google? Any map displayed with car location on it gives a useful context to the journey, for example, the shape of a road junction, and indication of nearby towns or villages. I don't always need SatNav to tell me where to go. On a recent trip it was used the VAG map - it was showing a village near the coast with a POI of a café - a quick detour for lunch before resuming my drive.
  22. That is a good shout. 5GHz wifi is good for speed, but 2.4GHz works better through walls and over longer distances.
  23. Stats may well indicate that, but they are no good, for example, for the good people in parts of Cardiff where terraces of houses each not much wider than a car is long are divided in to three or more flats with the likelihood of at least one car per flat. And these are not student houses. Some days I know people who had to park two streets away.
