  1. But the power rating of the motor DOES affect the efficiency and ALSO affects the way people drive said EV... so the impact is bigger than you suggest... I agree re weight though as most cars are ridiculously heavy these days - bar a few - especially EVs and granted that's largely down to batteries. As for the last statement - yep totally with you there - which is why we have a Kodiaq but actually use the Swift far more.

Yes I get that and the initial business case / marketing / 'prestige' rubbish that a lot of people seem to buy into is the main factor but surely there is a market for 'normal' performance EVs with bigger batteries... Efficiency is king but a big battery with a big power output in a big heavy vehicle is less efficient than the alternative big battery with smaller power output in a smaller vehicle regardless - so surely that is what we should, as consumers, be asking and pressing for. And why not pay £50k plus for a Ford if it's 'better value' than a £50k prestige brand where all you are really paying for is the badge and a load of kit you might never use (in my opinion anyway as I'd never afford / spend £50k on a vehicle anyway!). Personally I think the Koreans and Chinese will soon cotton on and corner the market for bigger battery / lower power / longer range EVs - if they haven't already!

Indeed - I've asked before on here why EVs with larger batteries also have to have massive power outputs... to me a larger battery with a smaller power output in a smaller vehicle giving moderate performance and greater range would make far more sense. Unfortunately no one responded and the way of the world seems to be 'more of everything'.

  5. Yep it'll be subjective I'm sure. As I said I've seen worse... Such as a large phone in the middle of the windscreen on a 107... The driver must've had a massive blind spot...

  7. I'd agree with @Baxlin... I think that would be classed as an obstruction to visibility and an MOT fail. I've seen much worse though all the same. personally in that position it'd drive me nuts... It really needs to be at or below top of dash level and in the centre for me. link to guidance.   8. Sounds about right... Its been an itch I've yet to scratch for about a dozen years! I remember when we bought the house we're in now 8 years ago looking for one with a double garage for that reason. I blame part of my need to have one at some stage in my life on a mate of mine who had a Westfield with a Mazda 13b rotary engine in it in the early 00s

  10. That reminds me.. I guess my favourite would be the one I've kept longest... My 1995 mk1 MX5 1.8is bought S/H in 1998. I still love driving it and it's been 100% reliable bar a set of HT leads shortly after I got it, a clutch slave cylinder about 10 years ago and a sized rear caliper about 15 years ago.

  12. I think those screws go into the underside of the heater control unit and to get at them you need to take the radio out and the lower dash trim off below. If you can get the radio out I'd be tempted to check the connectors at the back of the unit are seated properly, which you can probay do without removing it once that lower dash trim panel is off by putting you hand in round the back of the heater control unit through the hole left by the radio?
  13. If you take the glovebox off the fan should be straight in front of you held in by about 5 screws. From memory there are plenty of videos on YouTube for the Fabia that should be pretty much identical and will help explain. Good luck!
  14. Forgot to say .. you can sometimes reach the fan blades through the pollen filter opening if you have small hands. If not then it should be easy to remove the fan and motor to check it spins freely from the passenger footwell.

  16. Have you checked the fuses... Chances are if the resistor packed in the fuse may have blown too. Also check the fan hasn't seized if it's not been used for a while.

  18. That leak is more likely to be shot rear door skin seals. Common on many Skoda's of that era. There's no way that quantity of water would get through that grommet.
  19. I've had no problems having sealed the rubber gaiter to the bodywork about 18 months ago with polysulphide windscreen sealant / gasket. If it does leak it's a ten minute job to fix again and doesn't need the boot trim and wiring stripping out to thread through a new gaitor and inner plastic piece. By all means fix it using a new part but it'll be a ballache of a job
  20. Yes .. the rubber fits to a white plastic fitting that then clips into the bodywork. I didn't know this so when I tried to remove mine to check them I broke part of the white plastic as I tried to remove the whole lot rather than the rubber gaiter from the white plastic.
  21. I have a vague recollection that some code readers get the codes confused and tell you the wrong wheel. Might just be worth getting it checked with a different reader or replacing the other sensor for the sake of a few quid? Edit .. scratch that I've just twigged you used vcds... I thought you'd used the basic reader. Sorry
  22. Pretty certain it's an interference engine so yes valves encroach into the swept volume. As far as I can remember, in recent vehicles only a Mk1 or 2 MX5 is non I t3ference?

There is also a later section for the 1.4tsi in the Kodiaq workshop manual (not sure if the Octavia one is the same) specific to inspecting the toothed belt on the 1.4tsi but nothing similar for any other engine. I'd therefore wager that the dash means not needed... Hence the inspection info. Interpreting the dash that way would then tally with the regime for the panoramic roof and cleaning and lubricating rails in dusty countries but not elsewhere? It also would tally with the 'lifetime' belt info that was circulated at the engines launch.
  25. The not switching off with the key might be the 'ign' setting in the menu. After that I'd double check the connectors are well seated and none of the pins have moved
