  1. MIL has a toucan for watching the foxes in the back garden and I've been surprised at how good the picture was. Might be worth a look
  2. I had a boss with a 3 series auto like that - made a huge amount of noise but with very little to show for it... he thought it was great, we just thought he was a ****.
  3. Excellent - thanks for that. I've heard PF Jones mentioned a few times so it sounds like they know what they are doing and have the right kit to code etc. - and they aren't too far from me!
  4. That's useful to know as ours was a used purchase and didn't have one fitted or the prep from new but I need one for bike duties etc. Do you mind me asking specifics about who fitted it and whether they had any issues / caused any damage etc.? Cheers
  5. OK so thread revival... Eldest will hopefully be off to uni to do physics with astrophysics in a few months. They have all the gear but she's after a laptop anyway so I've been thinking about HP or Lenovo win11 home based min 8gb ram and 256 0r 512gb ssd and 14 inch screen. Any thoughts? Am I over or under cooking it? Any good deals out there (Lenovo looking favourite at the moment.
  6. Interesting... I've driven lots of autos and never liked them as I feel out of control in one. The same goes for autonomy... No the thought fills me with dread. I have active cruise on the Swift and it is good but that's as far as I'll go at this stage. I can see how it might appeal to others but not me.
  7. This could be an interesting thread... I went shopping the other day to Chesterfield from Sheffield (easier to get to the retail park there from where I live) and we took the Swift as we're trying to use the kodiaq as little as possible given the cost of fuel. As we headed off I actually said to SWMBO that with me now working from home most days and not out on site much we could probably manage with a small EV and she agreed. However I do love the Swift's offbeat triple thrum, it's hybrid torque and nippiness and it's great handling so even if we could manage I don't think I'm quite there yet... but I'm certainly moving closer than I've ever been before. What I will struggle with is the sense of connection, the skill involved in manual gear changes and that feeling of lightness you only get with something like the Swift or MX5. I absolutely hate the thought of nearly 2 tonnes or more of car... It goes against my efficient engineering mantra. Oh and just for the record the Swift did there and back at over 70mpg...
  8. Have you checked the engine and gearbox mounts?
  9. Added to that a lot of people don't buy new or buy pre-registered or in stock cars meaning they cannot specify tow bar prep.
  10. I disagree re the ACT... Our kicks in pretty regularly.
  11. 1991 Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 GLX. I bought it from new and added a few extras like dark blue metallic paint, a sunroof, multi spoke alloy wheels and a better radio and then did well over 113k miles over 10 years in it. In all that time the only non-service or non-consumable issue with it was a cracked exhaust manifold that was fixed using a second hand part off a Proton that cost £12. I also enjoyed the fact that it was comfy, had decent sports style seats and was different and a bit quirky compared to the run of the mill ford's and the like I could have had. OK it wasn't the Corolla GTI or Civic CRX I wanted but couldn't find or afford but it was still a great car.
  12. Hi Ryan... I forgot about this but if you've still not found anyone check the postage cost to see if its worthwhile as I'd probably have a go for you.
  13. As above... Glad you got it sorted
  14. I 'think' that's the external temperature sensor and should be clipped into the back of the grille / bumper somewhere
  15. Just noticed this and wondering about reverse lights in tha strip
  16. Just noticed this and wondering now if I can mount some additional reverse lights in that strip... 😉
  17. Personally this reads like you are making a mountain out of a molehill. Many dealers would have ignored the minor roof damage and just delivered the car but they are taking it upon themselves to fix it and then deli er it to you at their cost. Working from home and 2 days interest may be 'inconvenient' but finding another car, test driving and arranging everything again will be a LOT more hassle and if you like the car then two days isn't long to wait.
  18. I don't have an Octavia any more (now have a Kodiaq) but I'm almost 100% certain they use three existing screws... Two on the sides and one underneath. You just undo the existing screws, offer up the flap and align the holes on it and the car an refit the screws. If you hold one up against the car in position it should be obvious.
  19. Don't the mudflaps use the existing fixings that hold the wheel arch liner and undertray on?
  20. Well I for one am glad my conscience and didn't jump on that gravy train to make a claim for 'emotional pain' etc. that I clearly didn't suffer...
  21. I'd offer having done a few previously (last one was a TEAC A-150 (IIRC) but I'm a bit too far away...
  22. https://elektrotanya.com/technics_rs-tr474_sm.pdf/download.html Go on... You know you want to do it yourself!!
  23. Oops... Apologies... Entirely my fault!
  24. Something like that usually points to water ingress or condensation in the light unit. Any sign of that? If so it may be a case of drying it out and then reconnecting.
  25. No - not at all - I just remember them from years ago as a design and engineering outfit that did a lot of subcontract work for a lot of manufacturers, produced some interesting concept cars and were heavily involved with the Mk1 MX5 (with Tom Matano and Bob Hall??). I have been involved in civil engineering work at Visteon and Bentley though... but a number of years ago. I'd have loved to be in the automotive design trade and did get interviewed by Rolls Royce back in the late 80's but they declined me... so I finished up with Dowty in Cheltenham for 4 years before deciding that civil engineering probably suited me better than mechanical - so now I do highway engineering and transport planning with tinkering with cars on the side.
