  1. Sounds like the pipe has become disconnected within the tailgate.
  2. Over £600 sounds about three times what it should cost!!!
  3. Looks like it was worthwhile! Having had an 2007 Octy 4x4 until last year I always got it done properly by a couple of local specialists so would be interested in knowing who you used to see if they are the same - any chance you could confirm who and how much (by PM or on here) as our Kodiaq will be coming up for a service soon and, whilst the Haldex was serviced by the dealer last year before I bought it they have not answered my query as to whether the filter was also cleaned - so I'm assuming not...
  4. Ours is a manual so we don't have that option but holding onto the gears longer certainly helps. I thought I was imagining things at first but it definitely helps the mpg
  5. This may sound daft but that may be part of your problem... I've noticed that using low revs and changing up early gives worse consumption on ours than allowing the engine to rev and give of its best... Not to the red line but it certainly doesn't like lugging
  6. Agree with all of the above - we knew that the mpg figures on our 1.4TSI would never be anywhere near the previous Octavia TDi but went with it partly on the basis that it was a great drive and because diesel was being pilloried and was potentially going to be subject to some heavy penalties and restrictions etc. Do we regret it - no - although I'm still slightly on the fence over whether a good petrol is a better drive than a good diesel (I do like that big slug of torque). Am I upset that the figures seem low compared to manufacturer's ones - not in the slightest as I'm well aware that the manufacturers figures are not worth the paper they are written on and only useful for comparison purposes under very specific test conditions.
  7. Have to say you get a hell of a lot done in a day!
  8. We tend to be getting about 28ish mpg aound town in our. 1.4 and high 30s, so 38ish on a run. I may recall getting over 40 once... But then we do live in a hilly part of the country and every journey starts and/or or finishes with an uphill section and often with a lot of hills in between. Coming from a diesel Octy it is a bit disappointing but we do try to use the swift for as many journeys as possible that's doing 51 ish even on short runs
  9. Before you go buying a new one I'd be temped to take the old one out and check the bearings haven't siezed. Ours did on our Octavia but freed off with some wd40 and then greased it all worked fine again.
  10. These days the vast majority of memory used is non-volatile memory that doesn't lose it's information when the power goes off - hence disconnecting the battery makes bugger all difference.
  11. Just a final update on this a month on - since I sealed around the wiper grommet, where the rubber meets the lass, the boot has remained dry, even in all the torrential rain we've had. I therefore think I've finally sorted the leak and would suggest this is a good place to look for others with similar issues!
  12. Pretty certain disconnecting and charging the battery will make diddly squat difference and is a red herring... Just check the scuttle panel flap isn't stuck and if it is free it'll be the motor.
  13. The system has two flaps in it operated by motors. One flap is in the foot well and is open for recirc mode but closed for fresh air mose. The other flap is in the plenum chamber scutlle area below and in front of the windcreen (bonnet side where the wiper spindles are). This second flap is closed for recirc and open for fresh air mode. Hence from your description the flap in the plenum / scuttle is either jammed or the motor is kaput. I'd start by getting access to the plenum / scuttle area by removing the trim around the wiper spindles and seeing whether the flap there canbefreed off and whether it moves when recirc is engaged
  14. Sounds like someone criticising a 150bhp Kodiaq hasn't actually driven one...
  15. Maybe yes - interestingly though I've also spotted a Kia EV6 round and about (same platform etc.) and as a design it's far better resolved and I think will better stand up to the test of time. I certainly know where my money would be going out of the two if I was in the market.
  16. Have seen one of these quite regularly recently and have to say I'm a bit less impressed in the flesh - it's a bit meh... and I think could date very quickly (almost already?)
  17. I'd love them to pay attention @J.R. and, from the info above, many are - they are just trying to find a way of stopping the relentless messaging that the system is unavailable when the sensor is covered in snow 😉 - which would likely require the car to know it was snowing (or to have some way of turning the bloody warnings off!)
  18. So just how do you propose the car recognises it's snowing?
  19. Oooh... Breadvan civic! My dad had a 1.6 auto... Think it was an Azure special edition or something and later on I had a spaceship diesel sport
  20. We had two in the family - my sister had an early one with the sunken headlights, a 1.3 GL in red with a tartan red interior and I had a later 1.3L with flush headlights that was mushy pea green with an interior that was a similar shade... to which i added some pinstripes, speakers and a new stereo. It was fine for tooling back and forth to work in Cheltenham from home in Sheffield but got a bit 'floaty' on the A38 at close to 70mph so the natural cruising speed was 60- 65. I'll try and dig out some photos at some point!
  21. I did something similar trying to fit foglights on a Chevette... got them wired in via a separate switch and decided to try them only to be greeted with a smell of burning and smoke from under the bonnet as the wiring overheated! I learnt my lesson though and didn't make the same mistake when fitting big driving lights to my Nova and foglights to my Mitsubishi Colt! In fact I've still got the driving lights and the bumper over-riders they fitted on off the Nova in the garage - I seem to recall they were rebranded Hella lights and were great on a country road, the only trouble being that after you switched them off you were temporarily blind until your eyes readjusted to the low power of the standard dipped beams.
  22. That's the one I had earmarked for our Octavia... 23. Blimey - a Fiat Strada - I'd completely forgotten about those!! I always thought they were really distinctive at the time!
  24. You'll possibly have difficulty finding a part number for the unit only as I think Skoda only do it as a complete propshaft and doughnut coupling (or at least that's what I found for our Octavia when I was looking). Try searching for an Audi A3 part instead and I'll try and check what I found later today. From memory the part is about £100...
