Take a look at this thread... it seems to have ben moved to part of the personalisation options in newer vehicles

I'm pretty certain both park assist and cruise make use of the front radar sensor behind the solid section of the front grille. It may therefore be worth checking that it's not been damaged or is covered in muck / spiders (I know the one on my Swift is pretty seneitive to the latter).

Can't be certain as I'm not near ours but thought there was an option accessed via Menu / Settings (gear wheel icon) / Time and Date?

The person who failed it probably did so because he's fitted such a kit to his own car... (based on my knowledge and previous experience of Halfords 'technicians'...)

I don't take pictures but often look at my mk1 mx5 parked next to modern stuff and think it looks small ... Even the swift looks big next to it.

Yep I understand this is a common problem as we had ours was replaced when we bought it S/H as part of the pre sale checks. Interesting to see the inside though...

That sounds bang on Ken - our 2001 ATD Fabia 1.9TCi Estate did similar and would happily chug along or manoeuvre (eg parking) at just above idle revs. You can stall them but it takes some doing...

Did you work out how they got in it?

That looks pretty much the same as the one I've got for the Swift - works a treat!

a quick way to check if it's the screen (and a temporary fix) is to run some PTFE electrical tape around the screen between the glass and the bodywork. It won't damage anything but will help you see if that is the issue as it should remain dry if it is. My guess though is that you are right and it's the screen to bodywork join (had this on our Fabia and Octavia but only when they got very old).

This may be a draft thing to say but you may actually be pressing the unlock buttons too quickly for the second press to register and then it's timing out. I only say this as on ours we press the unlock button twice to unlock all doors and if we are too quick between pressed it doesn't. We have to press at about one to one and a half second interval between them.

I used to use optical back-ups as well (still got a load somewhere) and do have optical drives in the home desktop machine but haven't used them for a while (other than to rip CDs...)

Yep - I have an online back up of everything work related plus off line copies and three back ups of personal stuff like photos (external HDD, portable HDD and portable SSD). What I need to do is get my daughter into the same frame of mind and get her to think about security and avoiding viruses / malware (I've already added Malwarebytes and the like to the new laptop and got rid of a load of guff software from it she'll never need).

My first place to look would be the rear heater vent under the seat as they are pretty exposed if it is there I'd get some vent grilles for the sake of a few quid... I bought some before I even had the car.

Not necessarily no - it all depends on power output, drivetrain losses, gearing and other factors. Smaller engined cars are not necessarily more economical.

That's about similar to what we get going from Sheffield to Belfast fully loaded from a 1.4TSi.

You've just got to ring round the dealers, find some i stock and go and drive them... Over the years we've gone from Japanese hatchback to Fabia Estate when offspring 1 was in the offing to Octavia Estate when offspring 2 turned up and last year we changed that to a Kodiaq. Before we bought the Kodiaq we has two pretty specific requirements - one was 4x4 given where we live and the other was a big boot no smaller than the Octavia as we regularly filled the boot for the Octavia on trips to relatives in Northern Ireland, largely due to offspring 2's medical conditions meaning we needed to take all her food and meds with us and because we'd recently finished up with a wheelchair for her as well. We looked at both Octavia Estates (too many issues with the mk4 and not enough 4x4 Mk3s around to choose from), Superb Estates (too big according to SWMBO and not many 4x4s around), Karoq's (very tempting but the boot was smaller than our existing Octavia), and Kodiaq's (decent boot, bigger than the Octavia, SWMBO liked them and we found we could just sling the wheelchair in without dismantling it. That therefore settled us on the Kodiaq so we then tried the 150 diesel 4x4 DSG and 1.4 TSi petrol 4x4 in both DSG and Manual. SWMBO simply couldn't get on with the DSG - it's very smooth but she felt she just wasn't in control of it. I thought it was OK and reckoned she would have got used to it but, in all honesty, I also preferred the manual. That pretty much limited out choices. In actual fact we're really pleased with the 1.4TSI. It's no rocket ship but is quick enough as the little engine pulls the big Kodiaq along well with a surprising turn of speed if needed, and it suits the car well being very quiet. Fuel economy is high 30s low 40s generally, so not as good as the diesel but still OK for the mileage we do. I'd like a 2.0 TSI for the extra pull but the 1.4 has done well dragging us fully loaded over the Pennines from Sheffield to Birkenhead for the ferry and on to Belfast. Ideally I'd have liked a higher spec than the SE we've got but looking at prices now we got an absolute bargain so we're pretty happy with what we've got and don't really feel like either would be worth the muich higher cost. If you are looking at a 2017 /2018 car the chances are you'll be looking at 2.0 TDi's, a 2.0 TSi, or a 1.4TSi, as opposed to the 1,5TSi.

Went for the V14 Gen 2 Intel i5 in the end as I eventually spotted it with a significant reduction - turned up today and looks to be a decent bit of kit

Personally I wouldn't go with PCP or a Lease with a bargepole - but that's just me I guess as I don't like 'buying' stuff I can't afford there and then. Also I'd be very wary of the deals the Sheffield Skoda dealer are pushing given past experience of their sales techniques... but then maybe that's just me who's had bad experiences and chosen to go elsewhere.

And if you do break part of it like I did such that it won't hold in place stick it in position with windscreen sealant and close the hatch with some sponge or similar above it to hold it there until it's set. You can then go round it with more sealant to ensure its watertight. They occasionally leak anyway so the sealant might be a good precaution anyway.

Personally I'd be checking the connections under the breaker first as I don't like the way the cores are exposed beyond the connection block. You'd only need one stray strand contacting or near another core the cause an issue
