Test Pilot Required

Featured Replies

Hi Gang

I noticed that the rear end of my vRS has a bit of flex to it. As such i have untaken to build a removable rear strut brace. (Please Motorsport section).

Assuming that i am suscessful, is there anyone on this BB that could conduct some sort of test of it?

A "Test Pilot"?

Cheers

Mike

If you want any ballast I'll lie in the boot.

You can't be scared if you can't see where you are going.

Mike, I reckon a 3 part assembly, strut tops stay bolted in place with a removable centre section, rather like the front one I have. Would need to be fairly rigid.

TAV....Do you have any Engineering in your back ground?

Mike

all of this sounds like a job for "super ffelan" strut brace tester...;)

I'll volunteer, along with Paul.

Both of us are jolly sensible

I e-mailed some photo's over to colin..not too clear as is is ****ing downer and dark. Tav, ok but i cut a few conners on this prototype version. I was going to use right hand/left hand taps so you could rotate the centre tube to tighten.

However i didn't have a left hand M16 tap, thus you need to be good with a pair of vice grips.

Ok, i bolted the anchor plates in now......like i said NO drilling required! Only driven home from work but feels better.....will need a late night conrty road "Test" to find out but i think i am on to something here!

Tav, do you have any background in engineering ?...........I only ask as this prototype is i little tricky to fit if you an "Office" type.

Would you like me to past it on to you for second opion?

Cheers

Mike

Best not let him anywhere near it Mike. He's useless with tools ...

Just had a little run down a back road..Yep, i think things are a lot tighter and torter at the rear. Will need to wait til late tonight so i can hammer it down my fav bumpy back road.

It took me 12 mins to fit the prototype, thus even an office type should do it in lest than hour.

I need somebody Who "Knows".

P.s Were Q these days?

Could be interesting to see how this works in conjuction with the S3 front brace set ;)

Hi Gang

WOW

I thought that seeing how the vRS does have a bit of rear bracing i be lucky to see any improvment by making and fitting my own.........NOT SO!

The rear end "Patter" that i used to get on my fav back road has all but gone! I used to have to wait while the rear end settled, but coming out of the same conner its ok in less than half the time.

I was disapointed with the rear end, many friends said that being a 5 door hatch it was never going to have the rear stiffness of a 3 door Hatch..........well, it does NOW.

I might be wrong however, so i need a test pilot........who should i ask?

Cheers

Mike
