LED Daydriving lights for Octavia II RS

Featured Replies

It's the same on LHD, only it's not so much the steering wheel but your own hand that obscures it.

Luckily it's easy enough to check without looking at it. Just press it in. If it works, you just turned the fogs off.

Sorry, but if you came the opposite way to me with your "fogs" on you would get a blast of full beam and the finger... one of my pet hates... maybe it's different here in UK...

I always mouth "where's the fog?" when I see someone...

Why so offended?

I just have my dipped headlights on all the time! :D;)

I'm not keen on the whole daytime LED fairy light thing either, great for night time use as front & tail lights being bright & also the low battery load etc... but don't get it - a bit cheesy with cheese - sorry.

Why so offended?

Probably because the fog lights dazzle him and cause an unwanted distraction. Also it shows that the other driver has a complete lack of regard for other road users.

Johnny- If only more police stopped and fined people for this then maybe it would stop the habit (a good way of making revenue too without the need for points on the persons license!!)

Talking of which why is Skoda so mean as to not give us a front fog light indicator on the dashboard? Or is that standard across VAG?
the front fog light indicator is actually on the light switch/dial. as the car was originally designed as a LHD it could be seen to the left side of the switch, but on RHD the left side of the switch is obscured by the steering wheel.

Is it just Octy II's that don't have anything on the dash then? Both our Fabia vRS's have.....

Cheers

Dave.

nope just rear on dashpod.

DRL's are not legal in the UK as far as I'm aware. The Dept For Transport did a study based on Euro data from countries with DRL, and it was inconclusive.

I don't mind people driving with fogs when it isn't foggy, just so long as they are aimed correctly (ie low) and DON'T DAZZLE ME at night. I particularly dislike being behind someone at night with really bright rear fog lights - I thnk it something to do with the inability of our eyes to adjust the pupil in response to red light, plus if you glance away and then when you look back the fog lights sets off my automatic "hit the brakes before you run into them" response.

I too wish the police would book people for running their fogs when the weather is perfectly clear. It would be a very easy revenue raiser here in Australia, as so many drivers do it.

The Golf MK6 is coming with DRLs as standard, the Scirocco comes with them as standard as does the new Passat CC and the facelift Phaetons.

Only the Phaetons have LEDs as DRLs the others use a combination of standard bulbs for DRLs. It is going to be a regulation to have these as standard on all new cars from 2011.

The Octy II and Superb II can both be coded via VAG COM to enable daytime running lights where as older MK1s would need a relay kit retro-fitting.

I personally drive with my side/dipped beams on all the time as i feel it is safer to be seen rather than not seen.

I spent 3 weeks in southern ireland back in the summer and i noticed that many cars drove with foglamps on and I have to say followed suit, cars were noticable from a much greater distance. Now back in the UK obviously foglamps now no longer used as it is illigal over here, but i have to say correctly fitted and adjusted foglamps are no more of a distraction than dipped beams

DRL are legal, like mentioned above with volvo, but what people are getting confused me thinks is side bulbs on volvos are a different brightness etc to say the dLR on a audi with bright LED's. I wouldnt mind the DRL on mine if the side lights were actually abit brighter but when you do use them (just before and after dusk) they seem to be as useful as a chocolate tea pot.

I usually ask the same question... and then give them a £30 ticket:rofl:

Too right. My process book is brimming with foglight tickets. Funnily enought Make and Model would suggest Citroen Saxo to be the main offender...

Not condoning the front fog brigade but everytime i see people post this (on various car forums over the years) it always makes me chuckle - especially as the person doing the full beaming is normally complaining about being dazzled

Case of "we are hurtling towards each other and i feel i cant see well enough - so i'm going to blind you too"

I wouldnt do it myself, but dont let it bother me when the 'saxo boys' do it

What about these?

AUDI R8 sidelights FOG lights LEDS SKODA FABIA OCTAVIA on eBay, also Bulbs Lenses, Lights Lighting Accessories, Car Tuning Styling, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 04-Dec-08 20:28:53 GMT)

They arent (or at least dont have to be) placed in the lower down foglight area, more in the same place as the new audis (in the headlights), could it be an issue of placement?

There would be no way of putting them into headlamps.

What's wrong with just putting the headlights on?

iceled.co.uk were doing some thin leds that stuck around the light and were thin enough not to get in the way and shone onto the reflectors inside the light.

What's wrong with just putting the headlights on?

Absolutely nothing! I do all the time. ;)

Absolutely nothing! I do all the time. ;)

Me too - if for no other reason than the display is pretty porrly lit in the daytime so i put the lights on to see the mpg/miles till go-go juice runs out/etc.
