How long does a tank last you?

Featured Replies

I think some of you are missing the point of my question - I'm not so interested in how many miles your getting from a tank, but more, how long does it take you to use up a tank....

As i said, i was made curious by the thread Tailhappy had started that mentioned it takes him approx 4 months to use up a tank of diesel on his vRS.

So, key info i'd like to know is: How long does a tank last you?

Secondary info that would be nice to know includes: How many miles you get from a tank & your average mpg per tank.

Thirdly, perhaps some info that explains why your tank of fuel lasts so long or why it doesn't last you 2 minutes.

Awfully sorry, ever thought of a job at Guantanamo Bay?

I only seem to average 42mpg.

The car is sat for around 5 days during the week, apart from possibly a 15 minute urban trip to the supermarket.

It gets an 90 mile round trip weekly, around 20/80 urban/a-road. Then any other use is short journeys with a mixture of urban and b road.

Since the car is sat for a good while though I do like to give it some beans when its warmed up. If I sit at about 60mph I can get the trip computer to read about 52mpg, which is 50mpg as my trip computer seems to be 2-3mpg optomistic.

One half of my long journey each week is uphill though (Cardiff to Brecon Beacons) so that could have some bearing, I also have a decat exhaust and panel filter, so could have dropped my mpg by a couple.

the last 3 times i filled up i had done 417 miles... averaging 46.1, 44.4, 45.8 mpg (using the "Brim it" method). a tank lasts me around a week. although i will be filling up twice this week as middlesbrough have 2 home matches.

(Cardiff to Brecon Beacons) .

On this run I get about 54mpg even if I'm overtaking a fair chunk of stuff?

I did a two day trip from Kent to Bristol, then on to Taunton. From Taunton up to Great Yarmouth and then back to Kent. Total of 710 miles, most of which were motorway miles (M25, M4, M11) averaging 70mph. I drove carfeully with intention of seeing how far I could go on one tank Did the whole journey on 1 tank of Diesel. I was stunned.

Generally get about 54-59mpg depends on traffic to & from work on the A66.

I get about 400 miles from fill up to the fuel light goin on. Not too bad really. :)

Running my fabia vrs on BP Ultimate. Never filled right upto the brim - it adds weight and reduces mpg. I usually stick 25 quids worth in and that gets me approx 325 miles @ approx 50 to the gallon and thats with little motoway driving these days.

thats not unheard of. if you know how to drive a car properly and keep it in good mechanical condition, take good due care of things like tyre pressures and drive at a steady speed over a prolonged distance you can watch the mpg go up like a firework!

however, had you done those miles at an average of 90 mph, not only would you have probably been done by a speed camera you'd have also got less mpg!

How often I fill up is directly related to where I drive to.

Work and back, then its every two weeks.

Trip the the Lakes, couple of days. Depends on how long I am there for though.

AND If I don't drive it, it never needs filling up!

In all seriousness, if I brim it I get about 400 miles to the tank on average not using the nipple trick. The computer tells me I can get 600+ but never do, it also says I am doing 65mpg and I never do that either, so there you go.

Sorry for being sarky!

About a month, 400 miles ish but looking like it could be a bit more this month so far.

Possibly the journey type making the difference, Mine is a fast A/B road combination for 55 miles with only about 3 miles of 30mph in the middle, good for keeping MPG up,

About ten days with my normal commute

Pedantic "How long does a tank last you"

Or if you mean how many mpg then about 55mpg on my VRS though living in the country I do not get much crusing motorway stuff

To be honest I have not managed to use sixth gear yet!

National

Refill on average every 20 or 21 days,

All relevant info in my sig' click on icon for loads of boring details!

Is that using the trip or your own calculation?

When I said 42mpg, I meant overall MPG, when taking my urban journeys and short journeys into account also.

If I drive very steadily Cardiff to Brecon my trip will read an average for that journey by the time I get to Brecon of anywhere between 46 and 56 mpg depending on how careful I am with the throttle and gearchanges, so in reality 44-54 mpg

My own calculation, don't trust the trip computer! I use the brim to brim vented method ;)

Usually once a week. Sometimes more, rarely less. Commute 60 miles each way and like to keep at least 150 miles available in case no time/forgot wallet etc.

Im getting about 480-530 so far, only on my 3rd tank atm though, so time will tell once its run in too. This on a 20 mile daily commute on a road/m4 so the car doesnt really get chance to warm either, not bad at all i think.

I get a touch over 300 miles, which takes me a touch over 2 weeks :(

Full tank will be 550-650 miles dependin on how driven, which will equate to between 2 days and a week of fuel depending on the week.

I used to fill every friday, but i've cut down on my personal mileage a lot, so tend to fill up once a fortnight now, which is usually on the 580-620 mark (including expansion)

What?

Surely it is better that i clarify what i actually want to know? What use is it people giving me an answer to a question i didn't ask?

If you are incapable of reading the question properly, don't take it out on me.

Hmmmmm this is a toughy for me really......... We have 2 Fabia vRS's which we both use equally as much. On average though if i used just one of the cars continually to go to work and anything else i needed it for it would take around 2 weeks or so to empty it.

We get around 450-530 out of a tank in both cars even though one has a dragon box and the other hasn't. I use the the expansion tank on both cars.

The actual MPG of our cars can be seen in the my sig, (for my car) or Angiemac's sig (for her car)..... You'll notice they are only .1 or .2 apart from each other even though as mentioned one is running the dragon box and the other not.

Cheers

Dave.

varies..

usually around 500-600 miles.

my commute is about 13 miles, some A&B roads, then motorway then A roads.

pub run in the evenings. weekends is usually Hemel to Brands Hatch and back on Saturday and Sunday - that adds 250 miles or so.

sometimes it lasts me a week, sometimes it's 2. usually somewhere inbetween.

I usually get around 500 and fill up every 2 weeks :D

Been getting 550 miles recently, brimed and using millers diesel power sport 4.

Without millers, was averaging just over 500 miles.
