I'm a little sad to see the lack of clubstand only people. It's a great day out for £8 per person. Spectating the other sessions is usually great fun (with the odd "off" )

Not in our session, as we will all be well behaved respectful drivers just out for a brisk stroll around a nice wide bit of tarmac.

For newbies to track days, it is worth getting a feel for the circuit layout before you turn up, because naturally you'll be a little apprehensive when you turn up on the day. And even if you're a regular trackie, you may not have driven this particular circuit (that includes me).

So do a bit of research on t'internet. I found this YouTube posting of a Rover 216 Coupe . Nice camera work (not sure about the backing music). Look out for the school boy error at around the 3 minute mark; turned in too soon and put the front offside wheel onto the dirt before the kerb started. Consequently the impact with the kerb edge unweighted the front of the car, the driver presumably lifted and then trouble ensued from there!

Clearly this may be a bit disconcerting for newbies, but there didn't seem much track etiquette in evidence and I think the driver was getting carried away with the moment. Oh and I like the Astra van!

That was looking like some good driving, and early on (ish) when the car was following a pug cab, there was good track courtesy in correctly indicating to the left and letting the 216 past (although it didn't seem to be much faster than the pug in a straight line)

The error was a poor one indeed! Wasn't even a kerb, simply stuck a wheel on the grass which took away most of the grip. I for one, will not be pushing any kerbs or grass during my few laps....

For those new to Castle Coombe you overtake on the right on the inside of the track, a bit different to other tracks when you overtake on the left/outside which would be the natural racing line. This is pointed out at the drivers safety briefing, the reason being the pit lane exit and pits are on the outside of the track. Strange but true.

me too - that excited that when SWMBO booked weekend tickets to Thruxton for the BTCC races that weekend I refused to cancel coming to Combe!

As such we'll be turning up saying hi, blasting round the track, then heading off sharpish to get to Thruxton for the final sessions of the Saturday!

I also see Combe as the ideal place to finish off my nearly dead pads and discs before upgrading to some 312's!!
