Rapid tyre wear

Featured Replies

Yesterday I had to replace 4 x Vredestein Sportrac 3 tyres after only 32,500 miles. Not impressed.I was expecting some decent mileage out of them AND they were as noisy as hell. The Michelin Exalto PE2s that went on yesterday are MUCH quieter in comparison and I hope they will last much longer.

is 32k miles rapid wear? If i get that out of my toyo proxes on the front i'll be chuffed!

32K, Hellfire, I'm happy if I get 14K on the fronts

32k, my last front pair lasted 9k

Same, my Toyo T1R lasted 8k on the front.

Getting on for 16k on the rear though with 5mm still left

Im on the original set 40k nearly now!!! Motorway driving that is!

i'm on about 20k now for the Toyos on the back of mine , still gripping well too

certainly better than the 5 year old Michelins on the front i'm trying to wear out

I had Michelin pilots on the car when I bought it.

Awful tyres IMHO

8k on a new set of Conti's

9k on Michy pilots

7k currently on Yokohama Parada's with 4mm tread left

I wish i had 'rapid' tyre wear ;)

If you can get over 12k out of a front pair of tyres, especially with a torquey car like the Fabia then your doing well in my opinion!!

Current set of 4 michelin exaltos have lasted 30k before i swapped front to rear so i would expect total of 40-50k out of the set of 4.

I find the exaltos much better than conti sport contacts that the car was supplied with - quieter and better grip in the damp/wet

lol to the title of this thread. I had 6k out of a set of yokos on my clio 16v:)

how on earth do you get 30k miles from a set of tyres?! I've never managed more than 10k from any tyre ive tried!!

Must have a heavy right foot!

However 32k. miles is decent mileage on a torquey diesel motor.

ive done nearly 48k and im soon to buy my 6th pair for the front so please do tell how you get sooooooo many miles from 1 set!!!

i've had the original Continentals, Goodyear, Pirelli plus these BF Good whatdoyacallem thingys and all wear out pretty quick and im no wheelspinner

must admit that the back lasted 4 years and over 40k but the front just wear out quicker than anything ive driven before

any suggestions on what to buy next? sub £100 each only im not rockerfella you know ;)

32k miles is VERY good - Honestly!

We have never got more than 18k miles from the tyres on the front.

Michs on the front lasted 22k miles, inc track days,

Dunlops on the front lasted 20k inc track day,

Toyos on the front lasted less than 8k inc 14 laps at Ring, 52 laps at Spa, and about 40 at Oulton park

currently running the old Michs i got when i bought a spare set of alloys , just passed an MOT today

As i said im nearly on 40k on the original set first 15k was London city driving last 25k has been mainly motorway and fast A roads.

I think it could be down to:

- correct tyre pressures (check weekly).

- minimal hard braking

- no wheel spins

- I never turn without rolling

- do very little parallel parking

Or im just lucky!

My experience from my previous 306 is Michelin's tend to last much longer than Pirelli's.

Yes the Pirelli's were cheaper to buy up front but overall cost of the Michelin's was lower.

The same seems to hold true for the vRS - The Michelin's are expensive at £90-£100 + VAT but when i (you) can get 40k miles out of a set it works out cheaper than £60 tyres that only last 10k.

As others have said - its not just down to driving style. The geometry is right on my car so the tyres wear evenly and pressures are checked regularly etc

My driving is fairly mixed between b roads and motorway and i use the performance, however, i don't mindlessly spin up the inside wheel out of corners or rely on the traction control in the wet.

2005 Fabia VRS Tyre comparisons !!

Still have original Continental Contact 2 tyres on rear with 3m/m tread depth measured at 40,000 miles.

However the front tyre history is a totally different thing, at 15,000miles or close-to they are at 2m/m and get replaced.

I do-not alternate the tyres (swapping front to back etc) and rather buy tyres at 2 at-a time as opposed to 4 at-a-time.

The original tyres Continental Contact 2 tyres lasted until 15,000 miles, and replaced with the same type tyre but, at 30,000 miles I replaced the front tyres with the cheapest and nastiest tyres I could get.

The first thing I noticed with them, was the reduction in road-noise, and grip increase, now at 10,000 miles depth is 5m/m.

In comparison to price paid for (2) Continental Contact 2 tyres @ £165 all-in, as compared to £72 all-in for the (2) cheapy tyres.

Interesting when I cover another 5,000 miles and measure tyre depth, and note any road noise increase, or grip decrease?? and add it seems a for-gone conclusion what priced tyre I get when I hit the 2m/m depth on the rear tyres ??

Well my wife's Polo 1.4SE has used up 8 tyres over 6.5 years and 60,000 miles - the front bushes have been replaced and four wheel alignment done twice since the bushes were replaced with the Cupra ones. The last 1.5 sets have been Michelin Exaltos - due to the Costco price with an extra 20% off if you need/can buy at the right time. Last front pair got trashed in 9.5K miles due to alignment being set up a bit close to the "performance" settings - hopefully Mr VW has moved the camber back in a bit using all available "slack"!

As implied by others, there is no mystery into why small front wheel drive cars tend to use their front tyres up quickly - remember the rolling radius is less than a lot of bigger cars wheels, plus if the car is never loaded up or "pushed hard" then all the rear wheels are doing mainly, is stopping the back of the car dragging on the road(!?!).

I have had 2 sets of front tyres on in about 14k and a new set will be going on next week !

The new set should last alot longer though and not scrub the insides of when I get the bushe's done and the wheeles aligned properly :D

32k on a set of tyres you think is rapid tyre wear ?

No its not, far from....

I was just about to say is it in Km i.e. 32K Km which is about 19K miles, but that also seams very good on a set. How on earth can you get such a good mileage out of one set?

i manage to make a set of fronts last approx 20K. F1 GSD.

32K dreamland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So what everyone is basically saying is that we should Normally- not always- but mostly budget for a pair of tyers every year>
