For all that have spent alot of money on their fabia vrs to get 220+bhp and a dump load of torque, is it really worth it and would you recommend it?

I love my vrs, by far the best car i have owned, just a pitty it doesnt make the same noise as my old V6 vectra.

Compared to other cars what is the perfomance really like of a well tuned VRS?

does putting your foot down at 40mph all the way up to 100+mph make you get a little 'stiff'?

Yes definately. I got my old Golf PD130 to 221bhp, it was a rocket. It used to break the laws of physics and beat remapped 1.8Ts. You also might get the od EVO driver calling you a w***k*r,

I think only you can judge if tuning a car is worth it.

Logically it's never going to be worth the money - you spend a fortune, the car's value probably decreases and your insurance goes up.

But if, like me, you love your car and want something tailored to your needs/wants then go for it!

If you are keeping the car long term and its enjoyable to drive, then yeah its definatley worth it. Dont go too far with it until its too powerful and things start to break then you'll hate it (which is what happened to me with my G40!)

Yeah, that's why 220bhp is a nice figure. My old Golf was producing that most of it's life and it now has over 200k on it and still makes 220bhp and nothing has ever broken due to it's tuning, been very reliable.

It is worth it if you are looking for a car that is 'more unique' than a stock car, and if done properly, will be reliable, frugal and pretty nippy and puts a smile on your face :)

You have to consider the insurance and resale value plus your personal preferences and circumstances to decide if it is the right thing to do for you :)

a remap is good but IMO (so long as you're keeping it for a while) the car probably needs a hybrid turbo to put some extra fun into driving it.

unless my job changes such that I'm not looking at a 50 mile drive to work I'll most probably be keeping my diesel Ibiza for years so I'm not bothered about resale in any way

:)

Best way is probably to do it as OEM stuff goes kaput.

Surely if you had 3k to spend you would sell your VRS and put that extra money towards a Ibiza Cupra TDI and then with 'more minimal' tuning, achieve 200+ bhp ???

Plus Cupra TDI's look awesome!

that's what I thought, but after getting a remap in March (at Unit18, top job) I'm now after a hybrid turbo anyway...:o although performance wise the Cupra is a better starting point as it's got the 4pot 312's, a big FMIC and slightly sportier suspension as standard

na! skoda all the way. there is somethin about blowin the doors off bigger cars with a skoda badge that gives me a warm fuzzy feelin lol

This mod allows me to make the most of every single one of my Furby's reasonably modest 160-odd ponies... For instance, being taught the basic skills that now enable me to go the length of the A4212 consistently at or near the speed limit and without ever braking is, in my experience, more than enough compensation for my horsepower deficit in relation to some of the other cars I've shared the road with... :D

and if you start off with something that is broken and has no resale value anyway, you're an even bigger winner...

Awesome is bit OTT plus the Fabia has five doors a neccessity of the normal Fabia family owner.

A hybrid turbo mapped with a bit of sense will give amazing flexibility, power, reliability and fuel economy - power & fuel economy varying with use :P

I felt the car was spot on with that stuff fitted

"It's nice" - but retain a sense of realism when it comes to how good a highly tuned fabia really is - then you will really appreciate it.

I'm afraid spending say £5k on a bottom-end of the market 5 door hatchback, even if it is the top of that range, then spunking £3k more on getting more power, plus whatever else you choose to spend making it handle and stop is pretty silly really IMHO. A mate of mine recently bought an 05 JDM spec Subaru Impreza STi (280bhp before any tweeks) for £8.5k and that would put a much bigger smile on my face any day over blitzing a few mediocre rep-mobiles and chav-chariots in the knowledge that I might still achieve 50mpg. I've said it before, but Furby's are a great little cheap car with exceptional performance for the money and quite amazing economy in light of that performance, but I'd never advocate spending any more than around £1k on a remap and associated mods (PD160 intake, filter, RARB etc). Any more and you may as well be looking at a better starting point with a car one or more leagues up the performance ladder.

but it does look a lot nicer than a vRS and I didn't need 5 doors :D

I needed a diesel for work, I didn't want a "big" car but want a bit more oomph over a remap so that my car isn't too dull when I'm not going to/from work...if I could have a diesel for work and a weekend toy I would but there's no space to keep another car. I'm still a bit gutted that work was so far away when I was ready/in a position to change cars

the answer equals = NO!!!

buy a faster car, hence why im lookin at Evo VI's :D

I'm in a similar boat. I used to run a heavily modified Scooby and would have another like a shot. The Fabia is about the quickest and most economical car I could find with any driving passion to use as a driving instructor car, but stand by my position on mods for it. £1k max, save the rest for future use or another toy IMHO.

wouldn't want to be paying the fuel bill for an Evo doing a 100 mile round trip everyday  :D but I also wont be spending over £3k on my Ibiza

You are probably asking on the wrong forum. "Most" Skoda owners are sensible middle aged and all aspire to owning a Subaru of some sort. (Massive generalisation - no offence intended).

Personally I feel that you modding your car with whatever amount of cash you wish to throw at it to make it the car YOU want is what is important here. I lost count of what my Fabia stood me at, but it was the best car I have ever owned in terms of being an all rounder. It went well, stopped well, handled well - didn't attract the 50, didnt get stolen, wasnt the target of vandals, did 50mpg if I wanted it to, and was as quick as alledgedly much higher performance cars. It did have 250 bhp and 400 ft lbs though.

Was it worth all the expense?

Every penny and I wouldn't hesitate to do it all over again. If only they sold the Fabia in Canada.

If by spending some money on your car will make you happy with the end result, go for it. Who gives a toss about resale, you aren't doing it to sell it.

In my case at the time i needed a car derived van so i bought a Golf PD130 car van so to me that was the best option to mod it and spend money on it.

i agree 100% the money you spend on a car is to get it to what you want. if you didnt want to then you wouldnt have even concidered spendin it! the whole reason we modife our cars is to make them as good as we can. i think anyone on here would rather have a **** your pants scare fast skoda than a simularly fast bmw or another badge. havin a skoda that can blow your doors off is what does it for me.
