Really? sounds great! this is version 4? please post link to download!

Support for SDHC.

Now this alone would make the firmware update worth while.

However, being somebody who works with computers, I know that the controller for SD & SDHC is different - hence why when SDHC first cmae out there weren't hundreds of firmware updates available for all those other SD devices out there.

It seems highly unlikely an SDHC controller would have been installed and then crippled to only read SD cards.

So with that in mind - how much of the list of improvements is actually correct?

The new RNS510's do read SDHC cards

However as you say im not sure if it works just from a firmware update and would be more inclined to accept the rest of the features listed

Ditto!!

Who's got the bottle to try loading it then ?

I'll gladly be the second !! ;) (Assuming it works, of course)

I think Carl is already on the case.

I this a generic RNS 510 firmware or Skoda specific? :)

They normally have all of them on the disk Ian. You can tell once you've burned it to disk.

I am currently loading it on now and on the disc it says it has all the firmwares

Oh and they are listed as 2660/2666/2662/2668/2664 on the disc

However it only lists 3 Part numbers for devices it updates all of which are VW numbers. However mine is currently 60% through so will report back if i have just added a brick to my Dash or some extra functionality :)

Well done, Carl - you're a bloody marvel - do you have an SHDC card to try ?

Look forward to the piccies, and am now just about to start downloading

Remember to make the changes mentioned in Firmware update question - VWnavi.com to retain your hidden menu and maxidot functionality.

I've just come to do it and realised I've run out of CDRs!

You can enable the Hidden menu using VCDS

Im not making any changes as thats what causes most bricking of these units

I can live with the Maxidot not changing from the route instructions when navigating ;)

Carl:thumbup:

to retain your hidden menu
Sorry if I'm being a bit thick here - but what menu is hidden and how do you access it?

True, I won't do that one

I can live with the Maxidot not changing from the route instructions when navigating ;)

I definitely don't want to lose that personally.

Ok here are the pics for the New stuff on 2664 firmware

Sorry for the crap pics i took them on the piephone whilst in the car

1. Firmware done (sorry didnt take a pic as i was loading)

2. Menu Showing how to get Speed Limit Display

3. Switch Off Display Setting

IMG_0011.jpg

4. SD Card entries now viable for Navigation (not sure if they had this before ive never noticed it)

IMG_0012-1.jpg

5. New "excluded roads" route Option

IMG_0013-1.jpg

6. Visual Balance & Fader

IMG_0014-1.jpg

7. Pic Of DVD Menu

8. DVD Working

IMG_0020-1.jpg

9. Showing time on Map Display and New Menu enabling Display Switch Off

IMG_0022-1.jpg

10. New Style Start up Image (colours more vibrant)

IMG_0023-1.jpg

11. Showing Software info (if your wondering why i have a 3T0 unit its because i upgraded my 1Z0 to a 3T0 for some extra functionality a while back if you have 1Z0 it will remain 1Z0

IMG_0024-1.jpg

12. A couple showing the Road your on Speed Limit display

IMG_0026.jpg

IMG_0025.jpg

13. New Volume Bar

IMG_0018-1.jpg

14. Showing Clock with unit Off

IMG_0021-1.jpg

I know those with a MK2 Superb with this unit from the factory will have a lot of this but for those with 1Z0 units i'd defo recommend it.

The unit seems a lot more responsive aswell and if your wondering why the number of Satellites shown is so small the unit does that after a firmware update for some reason i now get 8/8 satellites

If anyone wants any help feel free to PM or ask

If you have downloaded all the .rar files what do you do then.

I can live with the Maxidot not changing from the route instructions when navigating ;)

Carl:thumbup:

Not sure what this means...

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick here - but what menu is hidden and how do you access it?

1. Go to Navigation - 37

2. Click on Adaptation - 10

3. Type 50 into the channel box.

4. Change the value from 0 to 1

5. Click on test and press code

6. Exit out of VCDS.

7. Press <> and brightness to reboot the rns-510.

8. Then press setup for about 20 to 30 seconds to enable the secret menu (just keep your finger on it it will go from normal menu to radio then after about 10-15 secs to the hidden menu)

Basically you can vew info like map version software version etc. You can even see your digital speed (in KM/H) in one of the menu's but it's no different to what is displayed on the speedo

If you have downloaded all the .rar files what do you do then.

Open one of them it will ask for the password

The image file will then all be patched together and you will get one image (about 457mb in size) burn that using nero or similar and voila

Carl:thumbup:

Nice one. I'll be doing mine when I've finished a bit of work and nipped down to town to get some CDRs.

if your wondering why the number of Satellites shown is so small the unit does that after a firmware update for some reason i now get 8/8 satellites

It''ll have to rebuild its GPS almanac afresh.

Not sure what this means...

When you enter a destination to navigate to you get route instructions on the maxidot

If you don't change a few settings once this is displayed you can't get out of it (by pressing and holding one of the end stalk buttons) until you switch the MFD3 off and select MFD on the Maxidot. Or you stop navigating.

The same thing happens if you select Audio

For me personally it's not a drama as thats what i look at when it gives me voice command so wouldn't change out of it anyway.

As i said messing with the .FLI files is the biggest cause of units being bricked

Carl:thumbup:

What's maxidot ????? :mad::mad::mad::mad:
