Cars you don't see on the roads any more

Featured Replies

Not seen a morris 1000 for a while...what's happening to all these older cars...are they going to the great scrappage scheme in the sky?

Again - Austin A40 /Wolseley 1500 ( my first cars ) -only seen nowadays on things like Heartbeat .( Shame - A40 had very special meanings for Mrs V & I ).Likewise Austin Maxi

-carried us through blizzard conditions from Teeside to Fife in the winter of 1977 -we had to go on - the roads behind us were being closed -three kids ,us two ,our dog and a bloke we stopped to rescue in the middle of nowhere after his Transit van slid into a ditch .

And I haven't seen a Vauxhall Victor FD on the road ( apart from on old TV series like Randall & Hopkirk)--great cars- not great economy ,but good long distance cars( like the maxi, which was a bit better on juice) .

Saw one of these at the weekend (S. Wales, nr Cardiff) and today I saw a mk 1 escort estate which was more than unusual although it was in Cumbria and they are 30 yrs behind the rest of us so maybe not that unusual

Cars like these tend to get used on nice weather days, I've seen quite a few about especially on a Sundays.

Mark 2 Cavaliers - use to see them everywhere, same with the first two versions of the Ford Fiesta.

Montego's - seen a silver one the other day.

My Dad had both an MG Montego and Maestro for a while - both in white with red seatbelts! And both went like stink I seem to recall :)

Also, thinking about other cars he had - Renault 21 Turbo. Not seen any kind of 21 in a loooong time! That was pretty rapid as well and the reason I first understood what turbo lag was

and this as a weekend car

That looks like it's a motor museum I haven't visited?

Location please?

Shark nosed BMW 5 series (my dad had one when I was a kid and I loved it!)

Ford Onion (Orion, quite posisbly the most disturbing car I have been in!)

Fiat Unos

Talbot Tagoras, havent seen one for years and also the Peugeot 604. I think the old 70s and 80s Renaults are the rarest cars, when did you last see a Renault 6,11,12, etc etc.

There is one of those on my street, it's just a shame the guy thought it would be a good idea to put a FMIC on the outside of the front bumper :rotz:

A Bosozuko R5 - different!!

J-reg Mazda 626 in red today. Not seen one in quite some time :)

Round the corner from us, there is a pair of A35 (one mint, one OK), and a bit further down is what I think is a Vauxhall Cresta (I thought it was a Minx until I got a bit closer).

I see a Triumph 2000 about the place from time to time... :)

Never was very many VW Corrado's, not too many left in good condition now. My old one.....

I've just been to Malta, and saw several Mk2 Cortinas (one diesel!), several Marinas, and lots of Mk1 Escorts. Lots of late 80s - early 90s Skodas, and a couple of Ladas too.

Not many Mk1 Golf GTIs around anymore either...

To many fat ones...

I just had a quick nose - 0-60 in 6.7 seconds!

That's bloody rapid even by modern standards.

Quick, yes, but only managed that kind of sprint time once in its life, then the Turbo gave up and the bodyshell rotted with shock and that is if you could keep it on the road in the wet. I do know as I test drived one when new but resorted to the MG 2.0i instead, much more driveable.

There are plenty of them around, especially in the summer at classic car shows.

I think Moggytech has one.

out with missis and little one on saturday and pulled next to a mint lotus sunbeam, it looked original and being driven by a elderly chap towards edwinstow, what a 80s piece of engineering

Very much 70s. Lovely though. Did you know they're heavily based on the Avenger ?

I was surprised.

Sorry but going of the story slightly. Regarding the scrappage scheme were i work weve just taken a concourse vw jetta in swap from a old guy who is buying a brand new skoda and the vw is going for scrappage were all gutted that a car in this condition is going to be scrapped its got 85000 miles on the clock 1 owner from new, not a mark or a dent anywhere. How many more cars like this are being scrapped, some people dont have a clue!!!!

Yep. they were very successful in motorsport.

While we're talking about Talbots, when was the lat time you saw one of these?

They used to be everywhere.

I just saw a Hillman Avenger tonight. Technically speaking it means it isn’t a car you don’t see any more because I didn’t not see it……………………doh!

its a while now but i cut my teeth on these types of cars when i first started in the motortrade as a mechanic, we used to have a "Skip Brown Tunned" lotus sunbeam come in to us and i can tell you that thing bloody shifted and handled well, Good old rear wheel drive technology:)
