Cars you don't see on the roads any more

Featured Replies

Saw an allegro "SPORT" - still sh**e, going towards kidderminster from bromsgrove last week. The scroat of a driver was trying to race his mate in another crap car. I also have days when i see rare cars quite often like the mk3 escort and a cortina estate in the same day - they catch my attention more than the cosworths etc

It's a Suzuki X90 , and that's more in the "cars you never saw on the roads in the first place" category!

Today I saw a rover 95

Well spotted.

In the world of Twitchers it would be 'lesser spotted' - thought they only sold two!

Real niche category vehicle - a 2 seater soft roader semi convertible ( targa panels). Who on earth did Suzuki target it at ?

The blind

Too many to list but even late 80s stuff like Peugeot 405s, Citroen BXs, Cavaliers all extremely rare and can't remember the last time I saw a Sierra. The 80s are back in fashion but alas the cars from that era (diehard clssics like 900s and Audi Quattros apart) don't seem to be preserved:(

There is one of these in Bedford, if you live here you will know where it is, as it rarely if ever moves

My Dad had an Allagro Estate…..oh the shame.

In fact he had great taste in cars

Allegro

Talbot Horizon

Talbot Solora

Skoda Fabia…………oh hang on a mo, that one wasn’t too bad

Any of the big 80's barges:

Rover 800's

Vauxhall Carltons & Senators

Ford Granadas

Any Datsun or Austin

Any one ever seen a Moskovich any model were'nt they 2 stroke??

A few, back in the 1970s, and I think the 2-smokes were Wartburgs, not Moskvichs.

Well spotted.

There's one just round the corner from my Mum's place.

Despite the "styling", they are Front WD!

Thought exclusivity must be its only strength, although now we know of two ! Bet they hop over bumps like a kangaroo.

Im confused, are you saying the x-90 is rare??

I wouldnt call 10,000+ sold rare, or am I reading this wrong:confused:

EDIT: Suzuki X-90 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

That suggests ~10_000 built across 3 years (figures quoted are for North America and Australia sales). In those 3 years Ferrari would have built about 12_000 cars for the World market, and no-one calls Ferraris commonplace!

I think the X90 was one of those rare cars that was a ‘car you hardly ever saw in the showroom’ let alone on the road:D

12,000 over the whole Ferarri model range sold over the world as opposed to 10,000+ of a single model in just 2 markets, not quite the same to compare.

The wikipedia quote of 10,000+ does not include European or Japanese sales, but I bet they a lot were more than 2000.

And I see those Suzukis a lot more than I do Ferarris.

Either way, its more than 2. :D

I wouldn't say Ferarris are commonplace, but they arent that rare either, just like these Suzukis.

Do Ferrari make 3000+ cars a year?

I saw an E-reg Esprit yesterday and made it me realise I hadn't seen any Esprit for years. If I won the lottery I would get the latest mint V8 I could find.

The X-90 US & Oz figure was more like 8_000 over 3 years. Even if you double that for EU and Japan, it's still only 16_000, which it took 4 or 5 years to sell all of, so I think the Ferrari comparison is valid.

As to seeing more X-90s than Ferraris, so do I, but then I don't see people leaving Ferraris on-street outside their flat all day very often!

I had a BX but ULSD killed it after 250'000 miles :(

There are still a good few around and I love the things :)

Exactly, the thread is about cars on the road after all. Of which IMO the suzukis arent that rare, just uncommon.

That said, you got me thinking, and there was this one bloke who lived opposite the college I went to (college happened to be in a nice part of town) who regularly left his 3?8GTS and/or his TR5 Surrey on the road or in his drive all day. So I'm going to suggest that unless you can find people living in other parts of the country to yourself who also see 2 or more different X-90s regularly the argument that they're rare does stand up.

Until the other day, hadn't seen the X90 for donkey's years, must get out more - obviously to the Wirral for a some X90 spotting, complete with anorak and notepad.:D

Just remembered, SWMBO had one of these once upon a time and to think it was not unknown for me to borrow it from time to time :mad::mad: - mainly for A to Z work of course.

Ideal for basketball players or folk in top hats!

Don't see many of em' nowadays, can't think why:confused:

X-90's? Common as muck here  at least 2 to every corsa :P

I guess its a matter of opinion on what you consider rare, must just be me that thinks they aren't that rare. Or Im in some sort of delusion. :D

*sits at the lonely table* lol
