Embarrased?

Featured Replies

Most Briskoda members own modern Skodas, which is also the case with Skoda Owners' Club G.B. members....not surprising as there aren't a huge amount of the oldens left!

As anyone that knows me will already know, I love the old Skodas that brought on the bad reputation and jokes about Skoda. I'm really proud of my cars, Skoda's long history ect.

But...it leads me to an [to me anyway!] interesting question....

How many of you are embarrassed by Skodas old cars? Say you were out with your mates in the pub car park with your shiny vRS and I parked next to you in an Estelle. Would you be embarrassed? I certainly didn't get that impression at the excellent Gaydon event earlier this year...quite the opposite in fact.

Anyway, say it how it is, warts and all....are modern Skoda owners embarrassed by Skodas past models?

Not me, I really hope to be able to get an older skoda again some day :)

Nah, not at all. I remember thinking the caretaker at my primary school had an extremely crappy Estelle, but in all honesty it was a nail ;) I was fine with my Favorit, and I like to see the old guard out and about today :)

I have no problems with older Skoda's. I love them. My dad had two estelles, favorits, Felicia's. I have had a Favorit, 3 Felicia's and 2 Octavias. I would happily have an older one.

Not at all! I'd love an Old Skool Skoda for going to work in every day. Trouble is, they're hard to find.:thumbdwn:

I wouldn't own one personaly, but i wouldn't 'point and laugh' at one (if that makes sense?).

Without them, Skoda wouldn't be where they are today.

i love all the old stuff, would really like a 130r:D

I look back very fondly to my first car, a '79 Estelle, no embarrasment at all.

It was a very solid car with great lights, rack & pinion steering & nicely tail happy handling!

I'd certainly have a hot Rapid in my "dream garage".

me too, there's a bloke near me that's got an old rapid and i've been trying to buy it off him for ages, but it is so hard to find one that isn't rotten

I'd love to be in the position to buy a nice old Rapid, or even better, a 120 LSE (my first Skoda) but at the moment I can't. I keep looking at the 135RiC that is for sale on here but I just can't buy it at the moment :(

I've only owned one Skoda (the Mk1 Octy RS that I have now) but have fancied a Rapid since I was a lad.

To me the 'Skoda' jokes were always part of the attraction & I just managed to get my RS about 6 months before Skodas became 'acceptable'.

I like the whole reverse snobbery thing. :D

And yes, I'd be happy to park next to you.

Aahh, you weren't meaning me; my car is filthy :)

Edit, edit:

and nearly 8 years old now...

I'm always looking at any old Skodas I see and I'm never embarrassed. Having been to the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary last month, there were plenty to look at. I would love to be able to take this one home and tootle around town on nice summer days!

Not at all. Surely old Skodas are retro cool now?

Love the old Skoda cars. Always one notch up from Lada at least.

I may be young, but, I'm well into classic/retro/old/interesting/weird (delete as appropriate) so nope, I wouldn't laugh :)

Without them, Skoda wouldn't be where they are today.

you do mean VW don't you :D

i also don't have a problem with the older Skodas

Old Skodas are cool - IMHO.

Always looking out for a good un as an investment.....trouble is now some of the good ones are way out of my price range :o

How high price would you pay for a 135 RiC Rapid in mint condition?

I'd have to wear a balaclava to drive an old Skoda personally.

I can just about handle driving a tightwad's Golf

:D How much fuel is in the tank?:P:thumbup:;)

Last time I was at the Polish Polish I had a couple of young blokes in front of me with a Pug 106.

While we were stood there waiting for our cars to be vac'd out they kept looking over and then looking away sort of thing.

One of them then came over and started going on about the looks of the car etc and was shocked when I told him it was a Skoda lol. Don't see any mk1 vRS's round my way :)

I like it when I pull up next to a little felly or something, makes me realise how far the marque has come since my childhood.

The worst thing is, since being on here for a while now, I find myself really liking the looks of the Rapid (sport???)

I'll probably never actually own one, if I had my way I would buy a mk2/3 escort of maybe another GTE, but I'd like to have a go of one lol

No i don't.

All the jokes about skoda's didn't start for no reason. They were unreliable back in the day, and as a result they lost alot of customers and potential buyers.

VW took over as a result, and this are where we are today.

If they had been more reliable and sold well, the chances are they would never have been bought, and we could all be driving a very different type of Skoda compared to what we have today.

So the bad rep did them a big favour (depending on who's opinion you ask for).

No I wouldn't laugh at them either. Put I'm in no postion to be able to buy one, need a good practical, reliable yet fun car to travel the family around. So the Mk2 Octavia fits the bill nicely.

No problems here. Don't think I'd own one personally though.
