What did you do to your Skoda today?

Featured Replies

looks smart, any plans to match the lower grille?

Thanks. Yeah I intended to order the lower grilles at the same time but inadvertently ordered two top grilles! I've never got round to doing the lower grilles! I've bought a "v" for the grille though and will order the lowers in the new year.

  • Popped to the garage at lunchtime to swap coolant temp sensor. I don't think it's the problem but it can't hurt. Going to swap O2 sensor later for the spare I have. Went well, all sorted in 5 mins. T

  • modified the cup holder     It's now a hobnob holder

Replaced a blown numberplate bulb, that is all :)

Filled her with more crap and went to the tip.

Got a free sticker with an order so stuck it on the battery cover.

Went for a drive for the first time in over a week.... But the missus had to drive, was not pleasant! :(

Drove with a full car (girlfriend, stepdaughter in car seat and girlfriend's parents) to the Weardale Railway in Stanhope to go on the Polar Express!

Discovered oil in my coolant header tank :'(

Fitted my parrot and brodit phone holder - result was fault codes galore and the dash looked like a christmas tree as I undid the battery and removed all of the fuses. Cleared the codes and everything back to normal (apart from the drivers heated mirror which is still bust)

Mild panic when the ESP and Steering lights wouldn't go away but drove up the road and they went off.

Drove to work (I seem to be there all the time now - wtf happened to holidays, time off and weekends off?) did my time, left early afternoon after a stupid-o-clock start. Got two new front tyres in Forfar, Goodyear Efficient Grip 205/55 R16s, all seems ok with them so far. Washed car down, cleaned out driver footwell and topped up washer fluid. Went down into Perth to get a couple of hours looking around and shopping for presents and filled up with diesel.

After working out where the water was coming from in the n/s/r footwell, I stripped out the rear seat (smaller parts), the plastic trims and re-connected the popped hose for the rear screen washer.

Just to make sure it doesn't pop there again, I taped up the connection (I can live with water in the boot or the washer not working at all, but water in the car *isses me off big time).

So after using six old newspapers to dry it all out, a little bit of re-routing of cables and an adjustment to the washer jet(with a proper connection it works instantly and washed the rear spoiler instead of the window) it was all put back together and is working perfectly again.

Then the car was washed, and chamois'd dry, plus the windows were cleaned inside.

Checked my lights and discovered that I had a headlight out, so, replaced the bulb.

All in all a busy morning with the car, but very satisfying to get everything done yourself,

Got it minging again :wall:

My brother changed my suspension top mounts for me, but I discovered one of my boost pipes has been fouling the drive shaft and has been worn quite heavily. No holes yet, but it's only a matter of time! :-(

thats not good charlie. gimmi a shout if ya need help.

Today.. i hit a Dog in the vrs. Just come up from garage had to take the front end off to fix one of my q7 indicators. Dog was ok and owner took resposibility for it as the dog was not under control and ran out on me. (thought i would add that before i get cained by the dog lovers on here)

Will do Gee. I've contacted the company I bought it from to see if they can get Forge to send replacement parts. Had a bit of a nightmare with this intercooler tbh

Had 4 new tyres fitted - 30,000 miles on the original set and the grip was starting to go, tread wear indicators were just coming to the top.

After yesterdays fun with the water leak and headlight bulb, I thought I had done my fair share of work on the car for December. WRONG!

Driving into work feeling all happy with myself and there is this 'orrible noise from under the bonnet and the battery warning light comes on, so , I stop the car and have a look and right enough the Alternator belt is gone.

B**ger, luckily I'm only about a hundred yards (sorry metre's, old codger alert  ) and two hundred yards from a garage that I trust.

So, switch off everything except the side lights and drive round to the garage, who surprise, surprise are not mobbed for a change.

Explain what's happened and tell them I will get an alternator belt sent round, can they fit it 'cos I can't get out of work. Yep, no probs mate, they say BUT, we need to see if the belt broke or the tensioner has thrown it due to the bearing seizing or even just being a little worn.

Ok, says I, and off I jolly well toddle to work. Aye right, more like smoke coming out my ears and a face like fizz. :swear::@

About an hour later I get the phone call, sure enough tensioner is toast, need a new one, so, phone my mate at TPS and get a new one sent to the garage.

To cut a long story short I get it back in the P.M. with new tensioner and belt installed and normal service is resumed.

So, what I did to my Skoda today was... cough up more faffin' money that I really can't afford at this time of the year and because I have to work I have to pay someone else to work on the car on a job I am more than capable of too! :@

The only up side to the whole experience was that it happened close to work and the garage, if it had happened in the middle of my twenty mile commute I would have been stuffed.

At least my mate in the garage only charged me £20 to fit it all, small compensation but, you have to look on the bright side I suppose. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! WHAT ***KIN' BRIGHT SIDE?

Was the alternator pulley OK, normally when the pulley goes it kills the tensioner.

Fitted home refrub wheels on Sat!

Thoughts/opinions welcome!

Like those, what are they off originally? They look familiar but the refurb colour is throwing me!

Octavia L&K MK1 - I should know as I helped him :)
