What did you do to your Skoda today?

Featured Replies

Front wishbones changed! 4 hours, all in all, with plenty of tea and cursing by the side of the road. And about time, too; considering the state that the lower ball-joints were in.

Pretty grim. :peek:

Also discovered that one of the outer CV joint boots has started to perish and crack; so that'll need seeing to, at some point. Preferably before it starts to spew grease everywhere.

  • Popped to the garage at lunchtime to swap coolant temp sensor. I don't think it's the problem but it can't hurt. Going to swap O2 sensor later for the spare I have. Went well, all sorted in 5 mins. T

Had a go at restoring the headlights yesterday. Overall it transforms the way the front of the car looks. Not a difficult job either really.

It's not perfect, if you look close you can still see a slight colour change and the outline of a Euro converter from a previous owner, but the headlights are actually clear now, not yellow and dull. :D

I may give it another go, just to try and get it looking that little bit better, I don't know. Otherwise, it just needs a UV sealant now as I understand :D

Had a trial run at fitting the roof bars to the SuperB ready for our holidays. Got them fitted in less than ten minutes which I'm happy with for a first attempt.

Also found a pack of two Philips Silver Vision indicator bulbs while I was in the shed which I popped in the two rear indicators of the Superb for that nice uniform red & silver rear light cluster effect. Looks like I'll have to put up with the fried egg front ones though as it doesn't look like Philips do those type of bulbs in their Silver Vision range.

Then I gave the vRS a wash.

Finally got round to debadging the rear.

Cleaned all the windows, inside and out, then loaded the toolkit back in for this week.

Washed, cleansed, polished and waxed the fab.

Still got the wheels and interior to do, but i gave in to a blast on the motorbike instead.

Lovely day (:

Had to look twice Barrie. If it hadn't been so low i'd have sworn it was mine. :D

Got back last night after a great weekend's driving on the Gumboot Rally.

What a weekend! 1867km driven, 700km on the Gumboot Rally with like minded enthusiasts on some of NZ's best and quietest driving roads.
$170 speeding ticket on the way home - 122 in a 100 doing the safest possible overtake, but still breaking the law of course.
Managed 35mpg on the drive up which is pretty awesome for my somewhat modified car.
And 28mpg on the rally itself (compared to the straight 6 M3 driver we talked to who had to do two 60l fillups on the same 375km route!!)

Cheers mate. Nice to meet you.

Today I put it back on its summer rubber and gave it a wash :)

Painted the rear drums black. A lot better than the original rusty colour IMHO.

New thermostat! (Original one "Made in W. Germany" appeared to work, but not fully.)

Also made up for not yet having my replacement radiator fan switch by putting a relay in its place in the wiring; feeding the control side of the relay from the ignition live that it was switching for the fan. (Yellow ignition live onto back of piggy-back connector on pin 30, wire from piggy-back to 85. Black wire to fan onto 87. Long wire from 86 to a switch in the cabin to ground it out and start the fan.) Love it when a plan comes together!

Cleaned it today, so now I have a better photo of the drums with clean wheels:

Moved the GPS antenna for the camera as it seemed to drop its signal too much..

Washed, hoovered, dash polished.

Half the trim inside taken out, clips died where missing and replaced.

Washed it and found even more stone chips.

Tinted the clear parts of my rear lights

Took the SuperB for her MOT and she passed with flying colours. Then started looking round for my insurance renewal.... With Admiral at the minute but their supposed cheapest (Not their renewal but the price i've managed to get them down to) is still about £30-50 more than some others like Hastings Direct, More Than & AXA.
