Sun glare driving ?

Featured Replies

Driving along the motorway the other day, while wearing my now compulsory long distance glasses, the sun started to blind my vision, so the first thing one goes for is the sun visor !!!. well that's OK but it now restricts the drivers vision, to a certain extent. In some cases if its the b roads and hilly, or sun is lower, you may find you cant even see the road in front !!! So now i have to place my sunglasses over my "compulsory long distance glasses" and this does not seem satisfactory to me . So ? is would not a "sun glass" transparent dropping from the visor a little lower also be helpful. ?? Otherwise its off to the optician again for a prescription tinted pair, to add to the non tinted pair, to add to the reading glasses, not forgetting the sunglasses of course !!! What do other drivers find is the best solution for their sun glare driving ??

Squinting :p

Laser?

Pair of decent clip on sunglass lenses to go over your driving goggles. :giggle:

I was using he M6 Toll the other day and the sun was so bright I contemplated pulling over - but I couldn't see the hard shoulder!

Hi MoggyTech

tried the clips, but seems my glass frames are too thin for the ones i have tried, but yes possibly option, but does that make your glasses legal if you have a accident ?? Idea of Laser i have not gone into as yet !! Weld shield well that I do have, could try it but 90 lens in shield might make it a bit dark don't you think ??

Babs is on top form today.

Clip ons are legal AFAIK.

Damnit man, I am always on top form!

But sensibly... clip-ons are probably the best idea!

Slow down to a safe speed and use the sun visor. Also do not stare at the sun! I carry a pair of prescription sunglasses in the car but rarely use them. Had distance glasses since I was about 14 yo and never found driving with them a big problem. Now I need bifocals to read the dash panel.

Why not get a pair of prescription glasses with Polaroid included in the prescription. It is even possable now to have Reactor-light and Polaroid included at the same time. Either that, or buy some Polaroid Clip-ons.

Laser sadly doesn't work for long sighted people, only short sighted & astigmatics. :(

It works very well though & was quick & painless when I had Lasik done 4 years ago.

Travel everywhere in reverse?

Know it may be out of subject but if you want to order a cheaper glasses for driving with tints B) try zennioptical.com.Glasses are so cheap, you can choose the style, just make sure you have the prescription, order on line, they arrive at no extra cost from date of delivery in around 4 days by DHL delivered straight to your house .... Always found their services excellent .... ( don't have any shares in the company :p )

I wear contacts and wenn it gets too sunny, I will wear one of my Oakleys emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Prescription sunglasses (got them as my second pair in a deal) and a baseball cap! Honestly, you can dip the cap brim very precisely and it cuts out more glare than those daft visors any day (well, it does if you're short like me!)

Yes .. there's the image thing. But I'd rather be safe. And for when I get old(er) .. one of those flat caps will do! Now .. where did I put my whippet and pipe?

My Oakleys do the job for me. Get some weird looks from people though driving around with lights on and sunglasses... :giggle:

contacts + rayban aviators!

look like knightrider but does the trick, can't be doing with little skinny sunnies for driving!

I'll 2nd the aviator's idea, perfect glasses for driving due to their size. They also suit my large head, too

To stop glare get polarised lenses. These stop horizontal light reflections e.g. sun hitting wet flat road.

Hi Babs, you can try the Oakleys too. My head isnt that small either emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

Preferably the Metals (have a couple of them, used to have RayBans but after they have been taken over by the Italians, they dont have the RB15TGM or RB50 glass anymore), have them with different lenses. (black Iridium, blue ones, brown polarized, black iridium polarized and the 24K gold iridium. Love those sunglasses).

Should have got the 2nd pair deal and had the 2nd as sunglasses ;)

Currently using a pair of sparkly wraparound givenchy shades that belonged to my wife over the top of my normal glasses

I don't like sunglasses for low angle sun glare. I find I can't see enough detail in the shadows, so just use the visor as far as possible. With high angle sun I don't get the same problem using sunglasses, I do play with the seat height. I prefer as low as possible so I can see under cars at the brow of a hill, but ratchet the height to minimise the visor gap when needed. It may be worth trying sports glasses with swappable lenses before deciding on a prescription pair. The graduated shades may be easier to control than a single tint.
