Genuine VCDS (AKA Vag Com) Hex + Can USB inter-forum Group Buy 2010.

Featured Replies

Hey, don't feel too bad about missing the VAT - I've lost count of how many times I've done that! I'm still in, if we're going ahead.

Having said that, V-Tech saying they cant absorb the cost when someone is ordering 100+ units at ~£200 each is a joke. I bet they'd start "absorbing" pretty quickly if we decided to take £20k+ worth of business elsewhere, don't you think?! It's a genuine mistake, after all. I'm in no hurry if you did want to explore the possibility of other suppliers.

I still wish to proceed, count me in, can transfer another £27

  • Author

Hi,

The last GB of this kind in 2007 was direct with Ross-Tech. This obviously cut out the UK distributors, and as such they clearly advised they would not do this again as understandably the distributors were very displeased at being cut out.

As per above I leave the ball in the participants court as to how you wish to proceed.

Again my sincere apologies to everybody.

Simon

I'm still in and can transfer the extra.

I am keen still to get the cable and if it comes to the crunch i am willing to pay the extra £27 i necessary.

Is there going to be a delay eg a cut off date as to when we need to get the extra £27 to you Simon so that the order can still go through??

Or is there going to be a cooling off period where we see if they can waive the cost or maybe meet halfway possibly??

Cheers again for sorting this deal out Simon and dont beat yourself up too much cos we all make mistakes its just being human :)

Hi Gadget man

i dont mind paying the £27 or if you want to take it the GB to another distributor then im okay with that aswell let me k ow i can have the cheque in the post in the morning

No problem gadgetman - easily done!

If the GB is still on just let me know and I'll transfer the difference to you.

PS I bet you wish you'd never started! ;)

I guess a discount of "only" 8% is better than a kick in the face.

Would be nice to get a little bit of a better discount but if that is the best and everyone else is still in and it goes through fairly quickly then I'm ok with paying the extra £27.00

edit to say: I'm happy to go ahead with this but if anything can be done on behalf of the supplier it would be a great good will jesture

I've no problems in paying the additional £27.

Any discount is a bonus

I'm happy to go ahead with whatever you decide, wether that's switch to another supplier or stick with the existing supplier!

Thanks all for your PM's and posts.

First step was to ensure people still wanted to go ahead, we can then work from there.

Those that have replied that the error is a deal breaker I fully understand and I have replied to those of you to arrange getting a refund to you.

I'll let the PM's land and check back with V-tech tomorrow and respond to everyone's messages in person.

Hi gadgetman.

Don't beat yourself up on the VAT thing, as many have already said it's so easily done, and we've probably all been there at some point!emoticon-0144-nod.gif

I hope you're not going to take £27 of people and then absorb postage yourself! That would be pretty c**p for you! VAT on the £195 is £34-odd, so I'm happy to send you that much if need be.

However, if you can (if you have the energy!) call round other possible suppliers, and better £195+VAT+postage, that would be great. It does sound a little bit like with nearly £20k or product on order, V-Tech are taking the wee wee a little for a bare cable with nothing other than an invoice.

So, if we can't improve on the price of £195+VAT+postage, and we're talking around £240ish delivered to me, count me still in, and let me know how much I need to top up. It's still cheaper than other places in the UK seem to be.

I don't mind a couple of weeks wait either, as it will stop me playing with (and therefore probably breaking) my current car before it goes back to the dealer in a few weeks when the new one arrives. Probably best I break a new one where I've got a few years to put it right before the dealer gets it back! emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Im happy to pay extra or re-negotiate

The one for £263 on Gendan only comes as a cable and certificate too.

There is no carry case or CD included in that deal.

I'd only be prepared to take a cable from an official Ross-Tech distributer, as I'm not wanting a fake copy.

Might be worth contacting German or other European distributers as they might do a better deal and we wouldn't have to worry about import tax in Europe?

For what its worth, and as a price comparison. The official Ross-tech distributors (Gendan) are charging £262.95 with delivery for the same cable/software thats offered as part of this GB, this is WITHOUT the plastic hard case. To Get the plastic hard case you need to purchase the pro version of the kit, which costs £299.95. I suspect the image shown earlier is for example only. The Hex-Can-USB cable/VCDS is available in several different packages. So even with the price increase the cable/software is still good value.

The problem with going the the EU is that the £ to Euro exchange rate is very poor at the moment so this could well make it more expensive than the UK.

Or buy this seperate for £8.12 from Genden.

Gadgetman - no hard feelings, it's an honest mistake. You must have been gutted on spotting that after the GB has got this far. In the grand scheme of things, it's 'only' £34 each. Yes, it's money we'd rather have in our pockets, but it's not life or death.

The original GB deal was based upon getting at least 20 definite orders. We don't really want to upset V-Tech if there was any form of contract in place. They haven't done anything wrong. It had been said their lack of help was diabolical, but I disagree. They've agreed they'll supply a minimum of 20 VCDSs for £229 each plus P&P for this group buy concluding today. From their perspective, we're trying to move the goalposts by now wanting to pay less. On an enthusiasts forum, we might be willing to give up our time and expertise for free as a hobby, but they are a business and can charge what they see fair.

That said, I counted 89 payments received. Even if there are many drop-outs, there could still be at least 50 / £10k worth of orders and if V-Tech are willing to possibly lose the group order, a retender might be worthwhile.

I did however find a UK supplier for HEX-CAN-USB in a hard carry case, with user manual and installation CD for £244.10 not including delivery (£5.88) which I thought was quite good. They have stock(although I doubt not enough to supply us all straight away). Maybe if you want I can pass on the details and maybe they can provide a good/competitive deal?

This must be the Marshall's quote, as I thought they were the only ones in the UK to supply in the plastic box (although Gendan ask an extra £8 or so for it, of part of their £299 power bundle). The £149 must have been a typo as £249 sounds more realistic for a normal price.

(who charges P&P on a 20k order that'll cost under £20 to ship?)

The Postage was from me to those taking part. As per my Pm to all, the £27 is just to cover the VAT. Postage from me to you I will sort something out one way or another. One screw up at a time

I very much doubt Marshalls can offer the same product for £150 delivered. When they were contacted, I was given their price for their pro kit; end of. No discounts available. Also took 4 calls and 2 emails to get that!

As for the distributor V-tech, the first thing was to let you all know about my **** up ASAP, gauge if a deal breaker for people so we have an idea of numbers before we can see what can be done as things stand. They havent left me hanging at all, and considering it's my error they've been really helpful and understanding rather than "it's your mess, deal with it" they could have easily have taken.

Just seen some replies since typing.

The cable will come with all the proper certificates etc, as this is an official UK distributor. All cables are genuine Ross tech's, just no case or printed manual.

When I bought my "earlier" cable from Rosstech in the USA - It came without a box or CD.

I was never expecting to receive a box as I did not think rosstech did one except on the PRO kit.

i'm still happy with the deal as it stands - you've done an excellent job

You can still count me in

hi simon

i would still be in, but as others have said could still worth another chat with them to see if they can do something better with price ? 20k is alot of money to be spending with them :)

cheers for the good work
