RANT: Why do people compare the Fab RS with cars not in its class?

Featured Replies

A nice healthy debate is always good.

I thought the brakes where **** to start off with but now they're fine and when I get my 'special order' pads they will be even better.

Ivan, there is late (which is later than most people) and stupidly late :D

Yes I have heard :rolleyes::D

1. The standard brakes have no feeling

2. The standard suspension setup is not focused enough for fast b-road driving

3. Even with a silly map, and very hard b-road driving, I am yet to break the sub 30mpg barrier

4. Black Stick-on rubbing strips are for (self edited).

5. Why is it your posts in this thread sound like letters to Dear Mirriam? ;) Cheer up mate!

Mums on the supermarket run?

People who don't want their cars damaged by inconsiderate ******* in car parks...

Or were you attempting to be offensive and get away with it ?

Paul, to mod or not to mod is a personal thing. Fair play to you for your stance, but respect also to people who like to "improve" what are already excellent cars....but nothing is perfect ;)

Why did i mod the Octy?..

Because i can :D

Mums on the supermarket run?

NO! Even my mum thinks they look crap! :D

No, I was being blatently offensive until eddyh told me I was being a bit dodgy, so I self edited my post.

Just as i thought.

I can't remember who said it but it's spot on.

Jimmy..

Sounds like a Ffelanism to me ;)

It seems to be a case of each to his/her own. But one of the advantages of the vRS models is that they lend themselves easy modifications. I add a green filter - 2 screws , clip etc. - done- and feel happy with that ! Others want up go for bhp/torque improvements and they are happy doing that. To some this is a hobby and spending several hundreds pounds does not seem unreasonable - you can probably recoup some money as most people never drink if they are driving. :)

I cannot condone any sort of car modifications what so ever. You lot should take a leaf out of my book, you know it makes sense. :D

I know i've said this elsewhere...but..

:D

I agree with what alot of guys have said....modding is often a hobby!

I modded my first car then said i wont do that again due to some of the negative reasons you said but when it came down to it I did mod it quite a bit!!! It gives me a challenge, something to aim for, think about and stop myself getting bored of the car.

Im getting a vRS and dont plan to mod it but the will be a few things i want to change and may do them after time.

It seems strange that what other people write seem to affect the way you feel about your car, dont think anyone on earth could put me off something I would have chosen, spent hard earned cash on and looked forward to so much!

Your modding opinions are very valid and make sense to a lot of people e.g. my dad!!

As for the puma LOL!! nice girly motor there....cant even get them brand new so no full warranty, less mpg, less practical, awful fiesta inside!! Ill have your vRS of you if you still want a puma :)

"Don't worry about it. I set out to chip the Fabia when I got it, something I hadn't thought about until I found Briskoda, but after a few thousand miles I don't feel that it's really necessary."

No, YOU don't but some of us do. A warm hatch with good overtaking ability is now a warm hatch with brilliant overtaking ability. It doesn't overtax suspension or brakes as my driving style is the same as pre "chip", just makes overtakes faster and (IMHO) safer.

Spot on Goeff, I modded my car as well cause I could, **** what anyone else thinks, I think the car is very capable in standard form and giving it a little more power is my choice cause I can. IMHO it is a very well balanced car which needed a little more power.

just read this thread after being offline for a couple of days.

first of all - well said p.birkett , even if it was a bit of a rant due to extenuating circumstances.

second - well said everyone else !

well-balanced thread , each to their own etc , etc. i am starting to fall off the fence on the 'non-modded' side as it does the biz for my 2 mile commute.

live and let live i say (application for the liberal democrats in the post!) :)

It's a case of each to there own. I never set out to fiddle with mine originally but **** happens. :D

OK. Let me clarify something here. I am NOT totally anti-modding. I was not in a particularly good mood when I wrote that, for reasons I dont wish to get into on here, but suffice to say each to their own.

However, it still seems to make more sense to buy a faster car in the first place, IMHO. Although I have to admit I would not mind (OK I would really like) more performance, however, I simply cannot afford to invalidate my warranty because if something goes bang, I may as well blow the car up in a field quite frankly because I wont be able to afford to fix it.

Perhaps I should have just bought a Honda Type R in the first place, but I still feel theres a lot to like about the Fabia. I especially like the look of it which is what swayed it for me, but in hindsight perhaps I should have gone for something second hand that was a lot cheaper and then it would have made up for the poor fuel consumption, something like a BMW 330i (can you get something like that for

There seems to be a pattern developing with your threads :D

Maybe, but trust me there is a reason for it
