Well, this was my car at lunchtime today...

Remember that last sunday it was in showroom condition at the UVW Show

You'll be glad to know I cleaned it totally this afternoon... Inside, Outside, Under the Arches etc etc... But now I don't want to drive it anywhere lmao!

Cleaned ours today, so no pictures of it in a right mucky mess. Trip to somewhere in Wales last weekend made sure it was very dirty.

The back on the Fabia is the worst car for sucking muck onto the rear screen since I had the Chrysler Sunbeam way back in 1979. I'm old and I know it, although I look about 23 ;)

At least Skoda designed a rear screen wiper which cleans the rear screen... if any of you are old enough to rememeber Chrysler / Talbot Sunbeams, the rear wiper was located at the top of the screen so distributed the muck across the screen really well :(

Hehe

My mum had a Talbot Horizon (LHD... Brought it back with us when we moved back from France years ago)... That was a similar car to the Sunbeam, exept for the rear window iirc.

Anyway... I hate this time of year with a passion! Farmers driving their filthy tractors on the roads after being in boggy fields, then the gritters adding to the nightmare with all the grit (I can forgive them though... A dirty bum is better than ice on the road lol).

Anyone else got a dirty bum they want to share with us all?

Not a current one but here is my dirty bum...

Now that's pretty dirty Ross!

Impressed!

Just washed mine following a little trip through Grizedale forest yesterday...damn...forgot to do the number plate officer! ;)

The Sunbeam and Horizon are totally different cars, with the exception of the Talbot badge... the Sunbean was based on the Hillman Avenger chassis, and was front engined with RWD.

The Talbot / Simca Horizon was front engined with FWD.

Anyone remember the Avenger Tiger and Sunbeam Ti ? always nice to see a road car with twin side draught carbs :D

Sorry no pics - washed the car.

Are they putting anything different on the roads to remove the ice ? My car was covered at the back with a very thick , black deposit - it seemed slightly sticky - or is this just normal road muck ? Do rear mud flaps help?

John.... The stuff on the back of mine was thick and sticky too...

Weird!

And Dsemuk... Sorry! I was only young back then and they looked fairly similar to the untrained eye!

Are they putting anything different on the roads to remove the ice ?

Round here (Lincolnshire) they are using brine rather than rocksalt on certain roads.

You have jogged my memory - did I read something about using a carbohydrate ( sugar ??? ) substitute for rock salt because it does not attack the road surface / steel sections of bridges etc ?

That's the muck that comes out of the exhaust........ and then gets sucked onto the back with an adhesive force !!!! Mine's only average dirty today, but>500 miles next week should change that !

To be honest I'm quite surprised no-one's done this smiley yet in relation to the thread title? :D

:moon:

Mine was filthy today after just 20 miles! (North lincs) it looks like they are using coal dust on the roads!

I had a Sunbeam Lotus back in the 80's, great car ! 2.2 Lotus engine, twin 48's, ZF 5-speed box with dog-leg first gear. 150+BHP RWD. Brilliant fun, but a bit  in the wet.

Had a Sunbeam but always wanted a Lotus but never could afford one, so went the RS2000 route.

Just washed both mine and they were both filthy, doesn't help with the roads being gritted but no rain. Also spend a fair amount if time hacking round country lanes and the farms are busy this time of year so the roads are all full of mud.

This time of year is a pain for trying to keep cars clean :(

Mine was beautifully clean yesterday morning but 60 miles later and a brief foray down a rather nice 'B' road and it's filthy! Looks quite good though in a funny sort of way

i gotta nice dirty bum il try get some pics after a few days

my furby now has nice brown trim all round the bottom

i spent the entire day cleaning my car, waxing her, getting the bug splats and tar off, she looked stunning.

Home comes my husband and within two minutes he had the idea of showing off in it (hand break turns and wheelspins) and i'm back to square one.

Ssoooooooooooooo not impressed.

A mate of mine got hold of a written off Avenger (rear end damage) and a written off Sunbeam (front end damage). He cut them in half, welded the two good halves together, fitted a full Aleybars rollcage and stuck a 2-litre Lancia twin cam and 5 speed box in it

He rallied it and called it an "Avenbeam" :D:D:D:D

And it was front wheel drive

 How old is he? :thumbdwn:

So it's not just mine that's covered in black gunge then.

I thought I must have been following a leaky tar tanker or something.

Maybe a bit of rain will flush it away.

well mine didn't acutally get that dirty to and from manchest on monday, quite surprised actually, a good 400 mile round trip

Not wishing to extend the life of this thread but................

When I stopped to fill up at my local garage ( less frequent event compared to my previous car ) the guy who operates the car wash said he was finding it difficult to remove the black , slightly sticky mess from the rear of cars. He said he had never known so many drivers ( not just diesel ) complain about the mess at the rear of their cars. Perhaps some one from the highways agency can clear this up :)
