Whats your doing to the gallon

I found with mine and many others there actual differences between JKM are normally around 15-25hp.

Was you run last year about this time by anychance. We had a RR day there and they had just had it calibrated due to entering their golf in the BTCC and that is the only time ive seen it put out normal figures.

ran mine again later and it had gained loads. my Octavia @ bluefin stage 2+ made 287hp there and 252hp at JKM. I could get you countless dyno graphs showing the exact same thing. The only reason i used it is i had a base line original set of figures which i could gauge the gains and results from, so instead of looking at peak output i can see the actual difference between stock/stage 1 etc.

When it comes to peak figures i only tend to pay attention to dyno dynamics as they are normally the lowest and the most consistent. Ive also never failed to make stock figures on them

Yep, almost two years ago at JKM and last year at AMD Essex.

My mates BMW 320i (E36) pulled stock figures on the same day so was fairly good :)

anyoway we've taken this to far off topic now :giggle:

Ill post up my pre-post remap mpg tomorrow night

I've averaged about 56.3 in mine. Varies from high 40s to high 70s depending on winter/summer and driving hard/economically.

On the way up i managed 47mpg over 236miles which i was well happy with. that was cruise control @ 70mph the whole way.

On the way down i got ..........32mpg, but i was driving a A4 1.8T Quattro estate as ive left mine up there for some stage 2 tuning

Stage 2 tuning? Its only just getting Stage 1? lol :)

it was only going stage 1, but its not anymore its going straight to stage 2. they have it in for testing and development as we speak

I've owned alot off SAAB's before so I am just used to those stagetuning , but I guess it's kinda the same right?

stage 1 = software stage 2 = software + catback stage 3 = software + turboback stage 4 and everything above that = bonkers!

My vRS was averaging 5,7 l / 100 km (41.2 mpg) on a trip for about 120 km , car got stock ecu , stock airfilter and turboback-exhaustsystem and racecatalyst.

The trip included city-driving , 70 and 90 km/h roads. Alot better then my SAAB which average about... well , the half!

But that was because it was hard to NOT floor it in that car :p.

Alomost. If they are saying stage 2 = cat back they are conning you. no gaons in the cat back to be had, just noise as its only silencers.

stage 1 = software

stage 2 = downpipe and sports ccat/decat minimum or a full TBE

stage 2+(or stage 3 with some tuners) = downpipe and sports ccat/decat minimum or a full TBE, intake, intercooler

stage 3 (or 4 with some tuners) = big turbo conversion or cams etc

In SAAB-language , stage 2 = catback + software. There is a tuning-company for SAAB that is having eight (8) different stages!

All the way from 210 hp on stage 1 too 600+ in stage X :o!

I'll be going for the stage 2+ then in a short while for my Fabia vRS.

And actually , you do gain benefits from replacing the catback-system!

The backpressure drops alot meaning your turbo will thank you for it in the long run.

Then you can push the boost abit higher =).

But it's in the catalyst (in my case , 100 cell racecat) where you earn the HP since that one is more restrictive!

I hope I make sense to you since my english is rubbish.

i have personally seen my previous 2 cars make no gains on the dyno what so ever on the 2.5T focus ST engine, the 2.0TFSI engine as well as many others make no gains. The back pressure is held up in the downpipe as there is a pre-cat and the main cat to stop it, and its why i will not buy the cat back again. Its also why there are only 3 stages(1, 2 and 2+) in VAG tuning for cars running the standard turbo's/internals. If tuners make it into more stages all they are doing is trying to make money which they very often succeed in. Maybe SAABs have very restrictive cat back systems, but VAG and ford dont see benefits with it.

Your english is fine mate

It's a lot better than some of the native English speakers ;)

Okay, the exhaust-developers said that atleast about the catback. They did both parts on my car anyways , so no worries there atleast.

Luckily I didn't need to buy my exhaustsystem xD!

The steps over 4 (which is a TD04 19t turbo replacement , injectors , ic , 3 bar map-sensor and all that goodies stuff) is there for deciding how mental you want to go.

Stage 4 is 310 bhp , stage 5 350 , stage 6 400 , stage 7 480 and stage X which is 600+.

I know that the original 2" system on a 9000 is everything except easily-flowing since that got alot off sharpbends.

I think they smooth that out alot with the catback system.

And sorry for spamming this thread with everything that doesn't have any with the mpg!

I'll make a project-thread later instead where I will put every mod I've done.

It's a lot better than some of the native English speakers ;)

Thanks for that , good that I am understandable atleast! :p

Stage 2+/3 will be a little while I think? Stuff that fits on to SEAT like twintercooler etc don't fit into Fabia so guessing a little bit of research and tweaking is going to be needed by tuners.

Lots of people will be waiting on your stage 2 review Janner :p Especially as it's Shark. Not seen a bad word said about Ben's work

Will be interested in MPG and standing start sprint speed! Keep us posted.

id wager at first the MPG will be drastically lower it always is, because you develop the over eager right foot. but in normal circumstances driven like for like, the mapped cars normally yield 2-3mpg more in my own experience anyway.

Im thinking of going for water injection instead of an intercooler though, forge said they are not far from completing but as with all forge kit it will cost an arm and a leg. WMI is alot cheaper, and provides instant cooling. If you mix it with methanol (normally 50:50) then you wil get bhp gains as well.

On the bad side tho , combusting methanol is increasing wear on the engine by alot.

Ethanol tho is another story , not increasing the wear at all but increasing the scaling off the boost (getting your average bhp higher over the whole spectrum along with the fiddling off the ignition and so on).

Can't you just change intercooler? Or is the intercooler wired up in some strange way electricly?

methonal is used by lots of guys on the TFSI due to the way it cleans the inside of the engine. I did alot of thorough research on WMI and not once did i come across any evidence of this, and water/menthanol is extensively used especially in japanese cars. Are you sure its not ethanol which causes issues?

the problem with the intercooler is its a different design to the ibiza and bears the load of other parts so needs special designing

Hmm , I'll look into the intercooler-bit. Shouldn't bee too hard to build a new rack to bear the load off the other stuff tho!

I just heard that methanol wasn't good for the car , but I found out that it might have a bad effect on gaskets...

I surely know tho that Ethanol isn't harmful for the engine , seen a review on an old Volvo-engine which ran 180000 km with E85 in it...

Nothing unusual in that engine , no extra wear or anything.

Since the review on the Volvo , it's done over 100000 km and it's still ticking like a clock :o!

Third tank done.

Measured at pump.

USA 45,2mpg

UK 54,3mpg

Mixed driving conditions.

Just filled up our 1.4 TDI today and over 491 miles the average MPG is 54mpg with a mix of town and one long trip chucked in.

Good news. Car seems to have loosened up even more recently. Think it's a combination of:

  • Summer petrol
  • Warmer on engine start-up

Been getting 400 miles ( +/- 10 ) from my tank recently as you can see from the screenshot. Granted that's at a full tank with only 60 gone, but you get the point.

Mixture of A and B roads at 30-60mph with some heavy right foot to get past the stragglers

Nice to know - got this too look forward to! Always hard comparing the MK1 vRS to the MK2 vRS in terms of fuel economy so I will have to think of how many smiles per miles I get :D

Similar to what I am getting now due to my very short journeys in a 1.9TDI

My 1.2 tsi now has 1500 on the clock and a mixture of town and country driving and a bit of motorway i can easily achieve 50mpg, i can get it above 55-56 with a bit of work. I dont drive that slowly so if i calmed down a bit im sure it would rise a tad more.

I know that this one is going to run and run, but my 1.2TSI / DSG has done 2,800 miles now and my best MPG is 47 that was on a 250 mile run to Scarborough on Cruise at 70 on the motorway for 180 miles with 70 miles of A & B roads at 50 - 60 MPH. I wish that I could at least get 50MPG occasionally !!!!!
