obviously those are thing that REALLY annoy him ;)

Water in the boot? Should have got the estate version then guys ;) but then the stupidly loud noise when you close it would probably annoy you - like it does me.

.....but all in all the car is fantatsic especially when it upsets 330ci beamers who think they ar the dogs *******s.

I "fell" in to a BMW325i coupe as a company car. It was rubbish after the Audi s3 i'd driven before. My father-in-law's vRS estate left the BMW for dead in France, so I took the own solution available....

vRS coming in a month (shall be well rid of the BMW)

  • 2 weeks later...

Climate controls are too low, would be better if they swapped places with the cubby hole,

water dripping in the boot,

Pointless Octavia badge on the dashboard, (I can remember what car I bought and if a passengers wants to know what it is they only have to ask me)

Fog lights in the main cluster

Heated rear window has no auto turn off

Skoda badges all over it, think the marketing people missed an opportunity here, replace the Skoda badges with vRS ones and get rid of the rear Octavia badge and they possibly would have sold a few more then. Anyone know of any good de-badging places? I once saw a replacement grill on eBay.

The computer tells lies and over estimates fuel consumption by around 10% (unless it's just mine).

The GALA function on the radio won't store at any setting other than 5 and I really like it set at 7 'cos I prefer the music lound on the motorway but a little more peaceful round town.

Long list considering it's the best car I've ever had.

Something that only bothered me with the snow the other day.......

What do I hate about the Octy?

Simple.

That I don't have it anymore.

:(

I tell you, the Passat TDI PD might have more grunt (a LOT more) but, in terms of being an agreeable place to sit while in traffic, and being able to cleanly pull away in two incches of snow or slush, the Octy didn't require me to change my kecks everytime. Sure, the Passat has traction, but even with a Traction Control system, it let's go of the road far far too easily. Case in point is that it was quite happy to let me slide sideways and still keep the power down without any flashy dash lights, but goes beserk when I run over even the smallest pot-hole

WOuld never have had this problem with the Octy (although it would have dumped all the snow on the rear into the boot when I opened it........ :D )

Could it be to do with the tyres not providing as much lateral traction as those which you had on the Skoda?

Rob.

Rob.

Nope. Same brand and model, fitted within two days as of each other as well.

I put it down to two things I guess:

Turbo. Still getting the hang of this element. Oh for linear, non-turbo petrol motoring..........

Which also suggests I might need a Right Foot transplant..........I seem to start a journey at "impulse speed", and jump straight into "Ludicrous Speed", bypassing everything in between............(although I do find the 48-57mpg return while doing this highly amusing :D )

Still, I miss the Lumbar support of the Octy (GLXi trim. Pastie is a miserly "S" spec). The seats where firmer and "sporty" rather than the armchairs in the VW.

I can't see the top of the fuel and temp gauges on the VW, no matter how I set the seat and steering wheel adjustment.

The Octy had a lighter cabin trim. The VW is just unremitting black everywhere.......not even shades of any other colour........

And don't even get me started on the differences in handling...... VW:mad:

And before anyone says "Why do you have the VW then?"

a) It was "free",

B) I got to keep the money off the sale of the Octy for other purposes.

c) It's a diesel.

But roll on May........might see what the Octy Elegance Estate Mk1 market is like, or a Superb (but bot will have to be grunty diesels..... ;) )

My Elegance Octy comes with lots of toys but also comes with a thin rimmed plastic steering wheel. The last car I had with a wheel like it was in a 1970's Vauxhall Chevette. :(

I'll soon be swapping the wheel for a leather L&K or RS version.

Cheers

Lee

Well, after only having my vRS for a week it seems a little unfair to pick faults. Oh, well... :P

1. Biggest annoyance. The water getting in the boot. I am going to get a cloth to keep in the boot to wipe off the trim everytime I open the boot in the rain...

2. The fact that I can't see the rev counter properly between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm. Although, I am 6ft 2in and have a long back, so maybe with a bit more fiddling of the seat I may be able to sort it.

Yes, the climatronic is too low, but it's not a big deal for me. And I've got used to the Octavia badge on the dash. :)

You do realise the steering wheel is adjustable i take it?

I'm 6foot 3 and don't have that problem

Yes :) - I have got the steering wheel at it's highest position and pulled it towards me slightly. I have also got the seat in the lowest position. I have got a very long upper body so that may be the problem. Also, I like to have the seat fairly upright which probably doesn't help.

Not quick enough :(

Water runs into the boot.

White carpets are a pain to clean.

White sections of seats are a pain to clean.

Wheels are a pain to clean.

ASR cuts in too hard sometimes.

Not enough/the wrong wheels are laying down the power.

Horrible silver "Octavia" in the middle of the dash. Yes, I know what I'm driving, thanks.

Rear leg room not as good as it might be.

apart from the intermittent selection of 1st gear thing which i'm going to get sorted the next time it goes in for a service..... nothing !

1.cant see the bloody climate control when driving.

2.Stereo sounds ****e (dont even turn it on anymore).

3.Needs more bhp.

But still think its great.

The climate is too low , but I just leave it at 21' on auto and never need to change it.

The stereo lasted about a week in my car :)

dipped headlights, not as good as i'd like, even with uprated bulbs:(

did notice the rubbish dip beam even with 90/100's fitted but main beam is dandy

In agreement with the following:

Water in the boot - made x10 worst by having a WRC wing which collects more water than a duck would know what to do with....

Dipped lights a bit on the dim side

Climate control thinks it's been clever by turning up the fan when that's not what you want it to do

Paint work chips easily

But worst of all, I live too far from uncongested country roads to give it a suitable blast as often as I would wish (how I wish I still lived in Ayrshire!)

Carpets and seats awful.

The silver just rubbed off the "Octavia" thing with a bit of dash polish.Looks better now it's black and not so obvious

Only had mine for 2 weeks and there is 1 minor niggle: I'm finding it too easy to knock the full beam on when using the indicators.

Everything else is PERFECT!!!!

Every time I get out of the car I think "I LOVE THIS CAR!!!!!"

Ross' date='

how about the light switch question? is it practical to take it out and change the connection to get rear fogs on first?...it could make several grumpy briskodians very happy

:D[/quote']

A little warning bell in the back of my mind says this is a legal requirement, or something, like only having one rear foglight these days...

May be what I hate is not all that of a concern for people in Europe... But stilll

I hate the fact that Skoda didn't do proper research on ground clearance before bringing the

car in prestine shape to India ! Infact car just rockets on the expressway and quadrilateral roads (Read it as Indian Motorways).

Another thing I hate is the fact that i can't see the bonnet edges very clearly... In India it is very important that you see how many milimeters closer you are to you a motorcyclist in a dense traffic

situation ;-)

other than these two it is a gem of a car :-) I just love it .......

Which Octavia have you got? I understood that the RS was slightly higher in India than in Europe ...but maybe not. If it isn't I can completely understand your worries as it sometimes causes problems in countries where the roads are better

Re: the bonnet edges, that seems to be a problem with all modern European cars with decent aerodynamics - which is probably why so many of manufacturers are selling parking sensors. Don't worry anyway, you'll get used to the car's size soon enough :D

I have an Octavia 1.9 TDI

Yes while I am writing this ... I can judge the edges much better than I was able to when I bought the car.

But I really couldn't respect how important it is to see the edges in India till I drove an utility

from TOYOTA recently :-).....

For me its not such a problem as most of the usage has been on the Highways....

An example of such a view is crawling in front of this many two-wheelers and three-wheelers who can cut in front of you at the last minute with mm precision.

Ofcourse what can I say..... You got to be here to see what it is to have order out of chaos ;-)
