I know it has been done a lot but i need to decide soon, normal(ish) driving 60 miles round trip to work each day so would like to get as many miles as possible out of them while not being too hard and quieter would be nice too :giggle:

A friend of mine silenced his Seat Ibiza in a big way by fitting Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres, grip and life seem to be good too.

Conti SC3's won the recent EVO tyre test.

.. however, this test was carried out without some of the key players in the market.

.. running the tyres only on an Mx-5.

.. at the continental "contidrome" test facility!

Just changed all 4 tyes and got Bridgestones on our Octavia Estate Elegance. The last lot did 29,000 miles and had been on the car since new.

How are you finding the Bridgestones.?I have 17" ones on my Octavia and find the surface dependent noise to be quite bad.

Simon

Might be worth mentioning radial or wheel size as some brands work better as 17's compared to 18's due to the sidewall stiffness. You'll generally get better turn in on 18" wheels for this reason.

I currently have Uniroyal Rainsport 2's on my car and they seem to perform well. Very progressive, good turn in and good wet and dry grip. I have 18" wheels on my car.

Whilst a lot of people mention Ultrac Sessanta's, Goodyear F1 assymetrics are supossed to be very good.

I have the Bridgestones too - I also find them noisy

Need more votes to make a decision :giggle:

Michelin PS3s, more expensive, but good all round grip and last really well

michelin energy

Potenza REO50a ( must be the 'a' asymmetric )

Recommended by my dealer and in conjunction with a full laser alignment are quiet as a mouse and lasting very very well

Michelin Pilot Premacy 225/45/17's are doing well so far and I reckon I'll get over 20,000 miles before hitting the wear marker. Previous cars I've been lucky to get 14,000.

Was thinking of Barum, cheap and made by Continental, but the decent mileage may sway me to stick with the OEM.

RE050A's? These are run flat's aren't they? :S

No

Just Asymmetric versions of the RE050 which were OEM on my car

Got 4 18" Avon ZZ3's on my VRS a couple of months back. The car feels much better than with the old Conti SC2's & the tyres look awesome! Only £89 a corner fitted too (Black Circles) B)

I voted other, Goodyear Asymmetrics, they won EVO magazines earlier tyre test, if they are good enough for them, they will do for me. Unfortunately in the recent test they did quite a few of the big brands weren't tested (inc Goodyear). They mentioned that they will be doing another bigger, proper tyre test soon.

I also agree with the above, funny how the Continental tyre won the recent EVO tyre test and the location of the test was Continentals test facility!

Out of the ones you have listed I have only tried the Hankook V12's and these were impressive, but they only lasted 10k miles.

if you read the article carefully as well , they are also a special fitment just for the mx5 , so the results of that test dont count for nothing on any other cars

i would try kuhmo's, they seem to have good reviews, i could not have bridgestone's, way to noisy, it does not matter what car they are on, they are a noisy tyre

I'll be going with the Hankook V12s next time. Seem to get good reviews.

Barum Bravis 2 made by continental in the Chec Republic. Excellent mid range tyre first had them on my wife Ibiza and now on my Scout. Great grip in wet and actually less road noise than the Dunlops I had on previously. Half the price of many of the others and wearing well so far.

Well my vRS came with Conti SC3s and I've been very happy with them in terms of wear and grip, but there again don't have anything to compare them to. They were noisey for the first few hundren miles until the outer coating from the mould wore off, now they are fine (normal Octy road noise aside of course). I know they are not the cheapest out there, but always seem to do very well in various tests, particularly in wet road conditions (so very good for the UK!) and in long life. I'm sure there are better, but often what you gain in dry road grip you lose in long life (softer rubber gives more grip, but wears faster), and as I don't ever drive on a race track, or pretend that I'm on one when on normal roads (well, not often!), then in the balance between dry grip and long life I think long life suits me better (as long as the wet grip is good of course). That said, given what I've read previously when it comes to replacing them all in the future I would seriously consider a set of Falkens, but you tend to find they are less widely available...
