skoda vrs with lotus handling

Featured Replies

cannot believe how many moans there are and different views there are on this site and others about soggy handling understeer and the like when discussing fabia and octavia vrs and we have one of each :D

they are not sports cars! they are two great quick cars(even quicker when fiddled with) but certainly not sportscars As someone has said before they are quicker than your average hatch and surprise many of the other marks. they have respect and a growing cult following but they will not be outhandling a lotus elise, subaru impreza or indeed anything similar

i never expected them too and can't imagine anytime i am going to be worrying about understeer! they do the perfect job that they were made for and it's a joy to leave an awful lot of tailgating fools in your wake(after giving them time to read the badge!)

if you wan't to go round bends at insane speed...get a lotus!

a lotus? i think not... most of us here who go on track eat loti for breakfast and wouldnt consider somehting so slow....

Well said and totally correct. Some people expect too much from their cars.

On saying that, I did a track day last month at Ty Croes and there were 2 Lotus Exiges there, and I couldn't believe how little quicker they were 'round 'school' than my little 'toy' Fabia with standard set up. Not as quick obviously, but they didn't exactly blow me away. Had that extra grunt on the straights, so I just backed off, let them catch me up, and played with them 'round the corners again. Good fun!

What about compared to the saxo? ;)

Wanna go around corners - get a roadster ;) lol

I'll give you Saxo young man!

The AX is phenominal around the bends, and will keep up the chuff of most cars. That's why it's being dragged out of it's mothballs this year for the twistier circuits. 17 yrs old now too.

Lotus...

Brunters..

Nuff said :)

Ask the VX220 owners how annoying it is to have an Octy RS sticking to your back end around corners too ;)

Poor Tony... his Exige didnt really aquit itself well....

I have some video of me in TaviaRS's old octy on the nurburgring. We were passing lotus's like they were standing still, and that was in the twisty bits.

Don't forget what Dirty Harry once said.

"Opinions are like Ar5eholes, everybody's got one!" :D

The octavia vrs is based on a rally car, its the "road rally" version therefore it is expected to have fast road handling, it doesnt thats why people moan.

Just because the car is fwd doesnt have to mean it has to have crap handling, the 106 or integra or accord type r are fwd and they stick to the road.

Just cos yours handles like a bag of spanners doesnt mean they all do..... 106's are way overated... ITR is good..

red ones go round corners better than yellow ones mike! ask Des...

We won't mention Taxis then

I'm sure the colour of the car will REALLY impact how much it sticks to the road.... ;)

For me, it's fun to have a car that happens to be pretty fast. I don't buy it to race it but I wouldnt be surprised if I ended up liking the extra power :D

The Fabia vRS for sure is NOT a rally car in it's standard form. It is plenty fast for most, and not for some - and they tend to do something about it.

There are definitely better handling and driving cars about, but there aren't many that have a similar way of getting the price down. You can buy a faster car for the money with less toys probably, or you can buy a more premium badge and loose even more toys. Each to their own, I'm sure I'll be happy to drive the one I've got on order in my sig regardless.

Imprezas are great fun too, but way more expensive to run. It would drive circles around the Furby in the wet though ;)

Fully agree you should buy the car you want/can afford/need/wanna drive. This can be a standard one or modded, couldn't really care less :D Enjoy it ;)

but not an Octavia......:D

Mine's on standard suspension bar the braces and is more than adequate, both on twisty roads and on the few tracks i've done.

Spending a bit on suspension will obviously make it better, but i have better things to do with the cash. But i'd spend it on suspension before bigger wheels, for example.

I've got a Fabia vRS and i'm currently in the process of "tweaking" it, already have the strut brace & green panel filter and cupra intake and should see it Jabba'd on friday after only 5k.

Driving an Elise/Exige depends completely on the driver as to how fast it is, although admittadly not the same. I had a Mondeo TDCi Zetec S which had Koni Adjustables & PI lowering by 45mm. With a brand spanking new set of 225/40 R 18 wheels, and the VX220 2.2 (Elise Platform and argueably as good at cornering) pulled nothing on me round corners, I believe this is to do with the excellent setup my Mondeo had. My Fabia round twisties handles nearly as good 10% less I would say.

Have people never seen the Bugeye Impreza's tail happy rear end? go round a corner too fast and it's weeeheeey, im sure it can be kept in tune, i'd just prefer to go around the corner with a bit of understeer and know the limit.

but not an Octavia......:D

Have done many miles with impreza's being driven hard... they are quick... but not unknown to hold me up cross country.

(especially when wet \ greasy...)

@Ian - yeah but they you DO have 4x4 ;)

My fault I should have excluded 4x4 versions hehe - I should have known looking at your avatar :D

That said my Rover 100 would have held up most things, although I tend to eventually get up to about 95 mph where it's a private road, hehe.

I must admit I wouldnt dream of doing that round cross country roads, IF it ever, ever got up to that kinda speed :D

Since adding motorsport stickers the car handles better than the works wrc octavia if not adding a tad too much oversteer. :D

I need to get some high speed driving tuition when the weather gets better.

Didnt the exige at brunters have engine problems?

As everyone knows if you add stickers to a Red REAL RS it covers up most of the red paint work which obviously slows the car down to Evo 1,2.....7 and 8 speeds.

The only trouble I have with the red beast is coming down from 170mph, thats the only time the Poobaru's and the ****sabushi's go past me is when i'm braking.

 The only reason it would do this under normal driving conditions is if you lift off mid-corner. The car is not tail-happy!!!! Keep the power on and then boot it mid corner, and it will pull you through with no understeer or oversteer ;)

The Vrs does stick to the road, and handles like a dream, if people are moaning, maybe the problem is down to their driving technique...... :D
