  • I fitted a 3C8 035 730 D to my 2010 Superb estate and it works perfectly.   It will connect in either handsfree or rsap and let you switch between them on the go or after you have connected in eithe

  • Yes.   I undid the screws in the BT module, took the blue wire plug out, took the front trim off with a bike tire leaver. Undo the 4 torx screws around the columbus. Then took the -ve terminal off b

  • What box is fitted into your Octy? ...if it begins 5N0 and ends A, B or C it's rSAP only, but you should able to replace it with a D or a 3C8 module, with no coding required, giving you HFP and rSAP

Hi Roadcrafty,

If you mean Voice Control in the Setup menu then yes, I don't think you can disable it (or at least I can't see a way to). Also looked at the Phone Settings and can't see any commands to disable voice commands there either.

I have tried again with both the rSAP and HFP phones and the Phone Voice Control menus take over everything (although they are slightly different. I can't access any other subsystems through Voice Commands. It seems no matter what I have running (say Radio and Map), as soon as I press the Multi Function button on the steering wheel I get the original da-da-da sound (rising), another ('more distant') da-da-da and then a short tone - the MFD in the cluster displays 'Voice control active'. With no input, after a delay the voice says 'Possible Commands' and lists the cammands followed by a tone and then 'for further options say help (followed by the short tone) and finally 'cancelled' followed by da-da-da (falling).

To my inexperience (although I am an engineer), it seems as though 2 modules are fighting for control, the original Colombus, and then the Bluetooth module with the Bluetooth module winning as the short tone never existed in the original setup.

The Columbus has its own set of menus and voice control is an option that needs selecting. The steering wheel button will control the 'phone functions OK. Try using the top right button on the Columbus head unit (the Info button) to control the navigation, radio, media, etc. once voice control is selected on the Columbus menu - not the MFD menus.

Thanks for that, I can get it to work using a microphone labelled button at the top right of the Colombus. It would be nice if iI could get it back to operating as it did - all from the Multi-function Steering Wheel. I somehow suspect that a cahnge of code would be needed somewhere in/for the Bluetooth module as it seems to have taken over the Voice Control operated by the Steering Wheel buttons.

Also, an apology is in order - calling you by your status rather than your name Argee!! Shouldn't try and multi-task - Sorry!!

Bump in lieu of topic being pinned.

My response to Kilkenny's post of 19 may 2012 re- his new 2009 Elegance 170cr and inability to mate his iPhone 4s ........

I was in the same boat as you a month or so ago. Same superb similar iPhone (4) and read and re-read the posts started by ukcruiser (belated thanks to ukcruiser and others) in feb 2011 titled something like 'rsap handsfree success' I took the plunge and bought the underseat Bluetooth unit from an eBay seller in Czech republic and fitted it easily in five mins. It works great for calls, either using the voice control option or the steering wheel controls and display but do have the issue of streamed music from the iPhone coming out of just the driver's side speaker therefore not stereo or surround sound. When I get braver I will try the fitting of the extra wire described in the posts to get stereo. It was scary spending £100+++ from an eBay seller abroad but was well worth it for me in the end. The ukcruiser started post and subsequent updates are very long ones but it's worth spending the time taking in the advice. Good look if you go for it. Cheers Robert.

Just bought a 5K0 035 730 D set from CarSystems in Poland (via eBay). My Superb did´nt have any bluetooth equipment fitted from the factory, so it was a complete install. Spend about an hour on it, installed the microphone in the overhead light, routed the cable from behind the radio to under the passengers seat (LHD car) and connected it all. Finally I coded the CAN gateway through VCDS, and everything works! My iPhone 4 connects straight away, I have full control from the MaxiDOT and the audio streaming works perfect in stereo. Nice to follow this topic to see how the module is located under the seat from the factory. This helped me to order the proper parts.

hi

what are the sufics will a F just plug and play or has it got to be a d?

thanks

Paul

F will work fine. D does as well.

About to throw a 3C8035730B at my Dec 08 Superb so I can use iPhones with it

What's the opinion on disconnecting the battery? Is it necessary or can I just swap the units out without the key in the ignition?

  • Author

just change it - no serious voltage / current is concerned - make sure ignition is off tho.

Cheers Al - and big thanks for starting this thread. Should be the best £115 I've spent!

With my limited knowledge Pete, yes. That's what I've got arriving tomorrow

Boom! That took all of 8 minutes to whip out the old, chuck in the new and get the iPhone4 connected and contacts imported. Works very well, call receivers reporting good sound quality. A stupidly simple plug and play upgrade!

My 170 E was one of the first off the line from 2008 and had a 5KO********A module under the chair

The 3C8*******B has given me great iPhone integration, with voice search and calling. It streams phone media via Bluetooth but only out of the right channel - no big shakes

Another member hugely grateful for Al starting this thread :-)

Quick question - I have a square instead of a battery indicator on the MFD? Is that because a Columbus s/w upgrade is needed? I also can't voice command the nav - not really fussed, but as the web is littered with Columbus s/w and map updates, is it worth doing?

Me too. Firmware upgrades don't alter the square symbol, unfortunately. You can add voice control to your head unit, control radio, CD, HDD, SD and Navigation, but it requires additional wiring. I've done it and it's not that difficult. :)

Anyone know if the Galaxy S3 works with older bluetooth units using SAP Vs rSAP

Yes, it doesn't work, since the older units only support ®sap, and the S3 (with Android) doesn't. It only supports HFP.

I think this is because Google doesn't want their Anrdroid phones to loose their Internet connection, which is an essential part of Google's business strategy.

However there is hope: You can add rsap support to your Android 4.0 phone with the help of www.rsap-android.com.

One tip: 1 minute of Googling would have given you this same answer...

Did mine last night simple plug and play

Thanks Al- Top man really helpful thread

One further question

Is there any use/market for thge 5N0035730A boxes after removal?? Ebay or bin in other words??

No worries Richf

I've Still got mine - maybe put it back in when i sell the car to make it "factory standard" and if it gets traded it, will defo go back in for the "new" box to go on eBay from where it came...!

Al.

Anybody know where I can purchase one of the updated Bluetooth modules for my Superb (May 2010) build in order that I can use my iPhone 4s. I've tried the various eBay links in this thread but as some are now quite historic, either the items have already sold or are no longer available.

Thanks in anticipation.

just bide your time and one will come up - either a 3C8 module or a 5N0 revision D module.

they are around £600 from a dealer!

Al.

Thanks Briskodian and ukcruiser.

Did send a message to the seller you suggested Briskodian earlier today re p/n: 5K0 035 730D to see if he had any of p/n: 3C8 035 730B

He replied by telling me that the p/n starting 5K0 will fit my May 2010 build Superb, and will permit it to work with my iPhone 4s as a handsfree unit. Perhaps either you or ukcruiser might be able to confirm that it will, as he doesn't offer a returns service.
