Can I just re-iterate everyone's comments thanking Chris for organising the day, and it was great to meet up with a number of people I've only previously chatted to on t'internet

Had a pleasant drive there, hopefully not too slow for those following me

And thanks to the two who I set off with to drive back for p*ssing off and leaving me to have a very lonely drive home :'( You know who you are :D :p

I like to think of it as maximising MPG

I think we got there just in time though. I was about ready to explode!

I've just been washing the dust off - I reckon Dave the Superdog churned it all up :giggle:

I will be looking for another pub in the York area for next time.

Sadly..It wont be the Stone Trough..It had potential as a regular meet too.

Big Car Park, nice location, even good beer..Shame

A shot in the foot from the happless management.

We live n learn!!

I can only think of Jacobean Lodge (http://www.jacobeanlodgeinn.co.uk/) which might fit the bill. Smaller car park than Stone Trough - probably 20/25 car max - and some issues with service at quiet times bizarrely, but the Carvery might be way round that. Big restaurant + nice terrace if warm enough. Packed on Sundays!

I think Tarmacing the carpark will happen before I will eat there again

Theres no stopping anyone else organising a meet there.

I'll go with a picnic in the car park :giggle:

TIM HAS E MAILED NIGEL, I cannot do anymore up to you lads!!

what has he emailed me for ??

i had nothing to do with the meet and didnt even turn up.

this is the email he sent to me.

Dear Nigel

Please can I express my regret that your party left disappointed after yesterdays lunch. I do not like to make excuses but I must tell you that our head chef had to leave early due to a bad back which left us short staffed and me having to assist in the kitchen when it got so busy.

Having spoken to Neil Webster, I would like to offer your group the opportunity to return to us for a future Skoda Club gathering where we will lay on a complemenatry finger buffet for you, should you choose to return. We have a private room that we can serve this in and I hope you will take me up on this.

Normally, the stardard of food and service is very high and I hope that you will get to experience this. I would appreciate it if you could let the rest of your party aware of my email and again I apologise.

Kind Regards

Tim

The Jacobean has changed ownership a couple of times since I was last there (Had our Wedding Reception there in 2003) but SWMBO's parents eat there on a regular basis and say the food is still good and is usually quiet

john999boy - free food is always good but life's too short waiting for it - they had their chance & blew it!

I think they should be given another chance and we should arrange another meet and have the buffet

If things don't improve I'm quite sure word will spread and it won't do the trade any good.

Just my thoughts, great location and I don't think he'll make the same mistake twice.

I'm inclined to agree with Mr Goldfinger. I think everyone deserves a second chance in life (within reason). Plus, it's a great location for a meet let's admit it.

I tend to agree... everyone can have a bad day, and he has done his best to compensate... (*likes the free food idea! lol..)

I will come this time.

up to you lads i think tim has tried to make ammends, i know him very well and he is pretty upset by your comments, at least he has agreed to host a meet with free buffet, as for the dust i think you are taking it all a bit far, i take my cars up there and although they do get covered if someone drives in there hard it also blows off just as quick, i really aint that bothered what you do but i am also in the 911 and gto club and know that clubs have lots of different members with lots of different views, i have been in the pub tonight and the reason he e mailed you nigel is because you mailed him prior to the meet so he had your e mail address so he took it upon himself to let you know how he felt about the bad feedback.

May i just clarify, i am not gaining anything from spending my time defending tim and i have not had so much as a free pint off him, so to be brutally honest i dont give a hoot, this is my last post and you guys can do what you want.

regards webbo

I'll let others decide Webbo

Nigel....Why did you mail the pub?

Probably to tell them we didn't want to eat until 14:00 :p

It was hugely bad service, having said that, anyone can f*ck up, and they have offered to make amends

I'd be prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, but if it happens again make sure as many people as possible in the locality get the word

Maybe they had a blinkered view that we were 'only a car group', and either wouldn't care, or wouldn't be going back again anyway - how wrong could they be?????

If it's of any interest, the lasagne, when it finally arrived, was pretty damned good

It was shocking service nothing was in order..... we were the last table to have our orders taken but weren't the last to be served etc.... other diners came in long after us and were getting served before any of us.... Including some having their full two or three course meals.

Normally i'd say sod 'em but if there's a free buffet and maybe a free drink each too???? i'd be tempted to give them another chance but if there was the tiniest thing wrong ditch 'em!!!!

Cheers

Dave.

B@lls just seen this meet and I only live in Poppleton. The Stone Trough usually does some top grub, wonder what happend.

The jacobian is a good pub too but I think they could struggle with large numbers ie more the 5 :giggle:

The blackwell ox at Sutton-on-the-forest is not bad and has a cracking "spank your car" road leading up to it.

Or the very nice pub is the Durham ox at Crayke  or problem is it has a chalk car park.

Chris
