Some great shots there folks:)

A few from the Festival yesterday -

They all look a bit on the yellow side - not sure if it's intentional or if the WB is off somehow. Also, I would probably have used a larger aperture on some of them to have a shallower DoF to isolate the subject a bit more. The pic with the guy balancing the cycle has just about everything in focus and to my eyes, makes it difficult to stand out with the really busy background of people and buildings. Just IMO :)

I agree; this is one of my favourite photos I've ever taken. Technically it's awful (I was shooting the band on the (lit) stage but saw this in the corner of my eye) but I absolutely love it. No one else seems to see what I do in it. But, for me, being there - it sums up the whole gig and I love the way she seems totally taken out of the situation due to the camera.

(no idea who she is, and I've never met her, so it's not a 'pose' for me)

I like her 'oasis of stillness' in the surrounding madness :)

This is the same girl as she leaped off. I hate the guy with the cut off head, but it just happened that way and my food was going cold :D Still, poor picture or not, I love her freedom of expression :)

I've not been taking so many pics as of late, had a bit of a fall out with photography tbh, but hope to get a bit more motivated in the future.

:)

I love light tail pictures. I think it reminds me of my Dads pictures when I was growing and he was really into film photography. It seemed like magic to m back then :)

Hope to get a few more done now the nights are starting to draw in and going to try my hand at

some star trails if we get some clear nights this winter.

Oooh I tried a spot of that recently, but my tripod wasn't quite man enough for the job (it was a very windy night in Northumberland. I now have a new manfrotto jobbie built from girders and will have another crack at it if I ever see the night sky again :D I was wondering if I put a x2 on my 200mm (x1.6 for the APS-C) would that mean using the 'rule of 600'. I could see the trail begin after about 1 sec exposure and really see it begin after only 30 secs?

Best advice I can give is have a look on Flickr for a guy who logs in as AndWhyNot and check out his work.

He also has links to his Long Exposure blog and StarStaX image stacking software.

:)

I bought a second hand x2 teleconvertor (canon x2 mkII) and went and had a bit of a play the other day. Probably not the best for this sort of stuff as I ended up stopping the thing down to around f9-f10 to sharpen up the images. But these were taken hand held and the chap was About 200 yards away. I think I need a bit more practise ans experimentation with it, but I think in bright light and slower conditions it might be quite a decent bit of kit (toy? :D )

and this is a crop of the chaps head to show the image isn't toally soft. I can say the servo focus works superbly even with this daft TC on :)

Thanks. I really wanted a longer lens, but had run out of money (just bought the 8-16mm EF-S - which on my body gives a similar width to your wide angle :) ). The main problem isn't that it is slightly soft or that it isn't so contrasty, but the fact you have to stop it down to improve things. I might need to move to a sunnier country.......... :D

Crop him off! Just crop off the righthand side of the photo with a vertical line running between the tip of the girl's trailing foot and the guy's elbow. Works wonders for the composition too!

I had tried a tight crop as you suggest, but I didn't like it. To be honest the image doesn't really have enough pop and the wider shots I grabbed only make the girl disappeared into the harbour wall. As I said though, I was sitting down having my tea when I saw them :D

Here's one I found yesterday in a Portaloo. Apart from the fact someone had left the seat up :D I was a little concerned about the warning note on the wall. What on earth do people get up to in Portaloos in Scotland!!!! Needless to say I held it in till I found a more salubrious commode Btw this was with my HTC Desire

Me and my son went out the other day looking for something different to photograph, we came across a disused industrial unit and various other locations and started snapping, they are all mixed now so I couldn't point out who took what but I used a Sony A350 and my son used his Fiji finepix s5700

Couple of tasters for u and then a link to the folder with them all in, (150 I think) :)

Some pictures of the Red Arrows display in Peterhead 22/7/11, (35miles ish north of Aberdeen)

Pretty dull evening so apologies for quality, so dull the flash popped up a couple of times.

Peterhead prison can be seen on the bottom right corner.

Hi John T, not sure if you have noticed but it appears you may have dust on your sensor inside your camera, if you look at the majority of the pics you have posted there is a small dark spot/shadow near to the top left of the picture, if u take your camera to any camera shop they can clean it, usually with a fast jet of air, not recommended to blow with your mouth into your camera as this causes condensation on the sensor! If your not using an slr camera then it's either dirt on your lens or dust inside your camera!

Ps: I only know this as I have the very same sort of thing on my pics and on the top left too lol

Hi Mr Greenfab.

Many thanks for the post, it was indeed a bit of crap on the sensor, a good squirt of cillet bang and a scrub with a brillo pad shifted it.

Not sure how the dirt got in, not had the camera long and have only changed the lens 3 mabee 4 time and taken the greatest of care, one off - other on - all caps reinstated.

I got a new carry bag from the Mrs and it came with a camera cleaning kit, so no sensors were harmed during this exercise.
