Cambelt and Water pump bargains

Recommended Posts

All,

I am coming up for my belt and waterpump change shortly.

Was in the VW dealership today Beadles (dartford) They said they could do the job on my octy vrs under the fixed vw price scheme for £399 all in. I have been asking around the indy garages locally and to be fair this aint half bad. Especially from VW.

Skoda wanted £370 plus 60 or 70 quid for the pump so VW are cheaper than them as well.

Just a heads up anyway.

Thanks

I did exactly the same thing just before Christmas. I got an emailed quote from a local VW dealer and put it under the nose of my local Skoda dealer - they matched the £399 price without question, having originally quoted something in the region of £550 for the belt and pump change.

Does it cost more on a PD170 than on a PD140?

Full cam kit (PD140 BKD) including tensioner and new water pump with metal impeller approx £150 inc VAT from TPS (before VAT went up though) plus surcharge on exchange pump.

Labour at indie including genuine VAG antifreeze - £100

All in - £250 with genuine VAG parts.

Well they are some cheap prices your guys have had. I have called a few people and all are saying from 360 to one that said £520!

The mrs has a jetta 140 sport that needs the belt done two so i have 2 to pay out for with mine as well!

I got quote £650 from my local dealer but I took it to Motorline Dartford and paid £330 for the belt and pump. They also serviced it for me £50 cheaper than my local dealer

Well my garage told me they are 201 and 90 quid labour for 3 hours - 291!!!

the parts are less then £180 inc vat to them if they buy genuine so at least you know how much labour your paying

Tell your garage to get a trade account with TPS!

Labour at £90 is about right - remember you will need some genuine VAG anti-freeze to top up with after the waterpump has been swapped out.

i work for tps so i know what they pay, whether they pass all the discount onto the customer is entirely up to them, that is unless they buy non genuine stuff

  • 2 weeks later...

Got a quote of £455 from a Skoda main dealer for belt and pump.

they wanted £350 for the kit.

Not due till the summer but I think I'll be getting the belt done at a trusted indy rather than Skoda.

Leicester prices for Cambelt & Water Pump on a TFSI VRS

VW Leicester - £399

Lion (Independant)- £320

Farmers Skoda - £510 intial quote, then price matched to VW

Listers Skoda (Coventry) - £521

These prices were quoted as part of a bigger quote which also included 4yr/40k service, pollen filter & brake fluid

I'm on the 'fixed' service intervals as I don't do big miles. If your interested, the quote totals for all of the work were:

VW Leicester - £707

Lion (Independant)- £580 (some non-VAG parts)

Farmers Skoda - £700 following price match to VW

Listers Skoda (Coventry) - £849 reduced to £800 for doing all the work at the same time

Marshalls Seat (Leicester) - £770 reduced to £750 when challenged

G/f's Fabia vRS LE just had cambelt, waterpump, antifreeze and MOT for £285 - genuine VAG parts too.

If you're in NW area then check out Cowley Motors near Frodsham...crackin prices and Glen does a top job. Big thumbs up from me

Just had cambelt + waterpump + idler pulleys with oil + oil filter for £280 (genuine parts). Now that may in-part have been mates' rates, but I highly recommend Luccombe in Redland, Bristol for VAG stuff.
