VAG 170 PS Diesel Injector Failures - VOSA action

Recommended Posts

I raised a case with Skoda Uk for my July 2008 Vrs PD. They booked the car in to my local dealer for a 'check'. The check obviously came back clear, roadtest was OK & the computer showed no faults. The dealer stated that that was the end of it, no further action to take.

Should I accept that, or should I whinge Skoda Uk into submission?! Sounds like action is not taken as a matter of course.

Update:

I sent a polite Email to SUK requesting that my case was re-evaluated due to my concern. The next day my local dealer called me to book me in for the free of charge injector & loom change. Good service Skoda (Im sure some other brands would not be so forthcoming), a good way to retain customer loyalty.

I had the same sort of experience. Diagnostic check by dealer, no faults found so no replacement. I raised a query with SUK about the inconsistent manner in which these cases were being handled and expressed concerns about potential sudden failure and they then arranged for my local dealer to replace all the injectors - but not the loom. This was done today, and everything seems to be OK.

Why not the loom?

I was under the impression that the loom has to be changed more often than not as it gets damaged when removing the old injectors.

Maybe they only replace it if they have to; it can't have been significantly damaged as everything seems to be OK - no stutters or warning lights. But I will be on the look out for subsequent problems.

Your going to be lucky if they give you anything TBH its hard enough getting the refund if VAG UK have done it, BTW the injectors are like 100+ each now not 400!

Yes they will refund if you can prove that you've had them replaced, i.e a receipt or invoice. It doesn't matter if the car is out of warranty or they were done outside of Skoda's dealer network.

When Skoda UK told me that they would replace the injectors FOC they asked me if I'd paid for any replacements in the past as I would be eligable for a refund.

I had mine in with Farmers Skoda Nottingham today, they now have the faulty batch numbers of the injectors. they then warned me if my injectors werent in that batch series then I would be charged the labour bill for the stripdown to get to the injectors...I declined this in the end and am here seeking further advice! Help!

Surely Skoda should now be able to pin point exact cars via the chassis numbers now that are equipped with this faulty batch of injectors?

Rubbish, if it is a PD 170bhp 2.0 engine then they should be replaced.

My dealer was able to confirm the part numbers on my injectors in about two minutes, so I hope Farmer's can break their hourly rate down for you!

Either way, you need to follow the procedure detailed earlier in this thread otherwise you will continue to get fobbed off.

Ring Skoda Customer Care. If they are reluctant to replace them FOC simply ring VOSA instead, as soon as Skoda know you have VOSA involved you'll be suprised how accomodating they become. Contacting your dealer should only be done after Skoda UK have authorised the FOC repair.

Let us know how you get on.

Currently in the market for a Octy vRS TDI. Does anyone know if i end up buying private, will Skoda still stand over any injector failures?

Dont worry , mine was bought private and the injectors have just been replaced FOC , just contact Dan at SUK

My story,

Back in Aug i had the dreaded injector failure. After confirmation from my VAG specialist i had i trailered down to him. While the car was in being fixed i had a look at this thread and quiclky got a vehicle defect report emailed to VOSA.

Within 2 days i had a letter from VOSA stating that i would be refunded by the VAG and all remaining injectors would be replaced under goodwill. I phoned Skoda Customer Service and had all this confirmed. After a bit of a wait i finally got refunded by Skoda, and today i had the remaining injectors replaced and have not had to pay a penny.

The only down sie to all this is that i spotted a new fabia vrs monte carlo edition in the dealership and am very tempted to trade the octavia in :p

Hope this gives others the confidence to put forward their claims etc

Regards

Neil

I also appreciated the follow up call that Dan made to check that things were OK a week after my injectors were replaced. And I have to say the car is running more smoothly with the new injectors, even though no fault were reported when they ran diagnostics on the originals.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've had four injectors and a loom replaced FOC by Dennis Horton of Lincoln before they failed.

I asked them about this issue when I took it in for a service and they seemed not to know anything about it but they contacted skoda and got the job done

Traded in my 03 Octy VRS petrol estate for a nice shiney blue 07 VRS TDI estate last Saturday.......127 miles down the road (not even home from the car dealer) and the clutch master cylinder went, pedal to the floor and not a happy chappy, phoned the garage (2hrs up the road) "bring it back and we'll fix it" ......really, 4hr round trip and 3 hrs while they fix it !!!, so he's sending new master cylinder for me to fit this weekend.......OK not good but do-able.

This morning started OK, drop my daughter to school and set off to work (40mile trip) all good until I got 5 miles from work on the car died .........towed to garage and told "number 1 injector failure with possible loom failure" 5 days and a £1,500 bill pending..........to say I was "not amussed" was a major understatement.

Thanks to this site and a bit of research I got the number for Skoda UK customer care, within 1hr it was booked into local Skoda dealer for new injectors and new loom.

I have to say the Skoda UK guys and girls did me prode, still a few issues to sort out but hopefully by the morning it will be being fixed ready for me to pick up in the afternoon.

Will update tomorrow when I get the car back.

Many Many thanks to all on this forum who diligently pursued this to the point that VAG and Skoda Uk, were forced to take action. Ive called Skoda UK this morning and Spoken to Dan Latta, and I am now waiting to hear back from him regarding getting my car in for an inspection and Injector swap out, and also a refund on the money already spent on a new loom and one replacement injector. This is exactly what forums like this one are all about...... good work fellas !!!!!
