My vRS has a drink problem

That's decent!

Wish mine covered top ups... I'm £50 down! lol.

Looking around though, honest john says that there are an increasing number of 1.4 TSI engine failures and reports of engines that have been replaced.

Whilst I am concerned, I am feeling comforted that I have warranty and a finance company behind me.

However, my ultimate worry is that I'll give them the car on Friday, and I'll get it back with "Urrr, we don't know what's wrong, just keep on with it" - That will simply be not acceptable.

My wife told me that I should be able to give the car back and get a full refund if they can't sort the issue.

Any thoughts on that?

Rejecting a car is difficult as I'm finding out

The service/maintenance is a Skoda thing, you can buy it from any dealership and it can be used at any dealership as its a policy held in place at Skoda UK

There are 3 levels,

Servicing

Servicing/maintenance

Servicing/maintenance/tyres

I contacted the Finance company regarding this: -

1. Basically I do have to give the dealer a chance to rectify any fault

2. If they cannot find any fault, and I am still not happy, I can contact the finance company to sort out another check of the car

3. If after that they cannot find anything wrong with the car, then my only choice is to trade the car in and go for another brand (!!!!!)(their words)

So pretty much, I am hoping that there is something definitely wrong with it, and it can be identified quickly...

If there is nothing wrong with it - what am I to do? Keep supplying oil at £50 for 5L every 2 months? I think not.

I have been reading around, specifically on the SEATCupra forum, and there are a number of Cupra/FR owners that are all complaining of excessive oil usage.

In many cases, SEAT has authorised and completed totally new engines for most of these cars!

As much as a new engine is nice (6,000 miles of wear and tear for free!) - it is rather a drastic fix to the problem.

I will keep this thread up to date as I get more news.

Vw are replacing the piston scrapers on the polos this can also solve the problem the seats seem to have alot more problems I'm not sure if these faults will also effect us

The service from seat sounds dreadful they don't seem able to fix the miss fire issue

Hi guys, I remembered reading this thread long before I had mine delivered, so it came handy now that I have these questions:

From what I have understood, since Skoda recommends Castroil and its also recommended by various members in here, the best oil to use - ideally - would be the Castrol Edge 5W40.

That is exactly this one: Castrol Edge 5w40

So today I was at the dealers as he had forgotten to provide me with the gift pack, ( 2 LT bottle of oil, spare bulbs and cleaning set), and to my surprise, I see the oil I was given was a "Shell Helix HX7 Diesel 5w30"

I asked hey is that ok? And he said don't worry it says DIESEL, its perfectly suitable for the car.

Well my questions are:

1) Is it sure this oil is ok for the vRS???

2) I had in mind buying the Castrol Edge 5w40 and asking them to do the oil change using my own oil. In case I need to do a small fill-up until the scheduled oil-change at 7500 KM, should I use this Shell Helix Diesel? The Damn Castrol Edge is impossible to find around here (France). I don't think its a good idea to mix them.

3) Also, I have never found the Castrol Edge 5w40 (Petrol, not Diesel) in any of the 5 different "car shops" that I have been to. Closest thing was Castrol Edge 5w40 Diesel. Would that be ok also?

There is also the Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 (not Diesel) available. http://www.shell.co.uk/home/content/gbr/products_services/on_the_road/oils_lubricants/shell_helix_tpkg/product_range_new/helix_ultra/ What should I choose between this and the Castrol Edge Diesel?

Thank you in advance!

Castrol edge 5w x 30 will do for diesel and petrol, it's what I've used in my 1.4tdi

indeed , i topped up in the first 10k with "diesel" oil I had for the fiat... still met the correct VAG pecs for the vRS :)

edit: 16,000 miles and no top up since service! another 300+ miles to do tomorow then I will check again the day after:)

Should the dealer provide you with the oil, bulb gift set for every car or did you pay more for it? I'm picking my 1.2 tsi up in 2 weeks ish

I'm not in the UK so probably not. Anyway it was part of an "extra services" pack I purchased with the car.

@Seboni & Shark:

Would you rather prefer the Castrol Diesel 5w30 or the Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 instead?

You should get a complimentary 1 ltr bottle of Castrol in a bag :)

Castrol edge 5wx30 for me, but really does not matter as long as it's specification is right 501/507 something like that anyway just went to a find an oil for your car online, it specified Castrol edge so that what I went for ;)

Both as good as each other easier to get hold of the Shell stuff...ask forum member opieman from opie oils for his opinion!

Opie oils that's the 1 ;)

Right. So the Castrol Edge 5w40 Diesel is as good as the Castrol Edge 5w40 (Petrol) one? They have the same specs which are intented to be used in the vRS: VW 502 00

Other than that, should I prefer one over the other? I cannot find the petrol version anywhere, neither at shops nor the french online sites. It is available in ebay.co.uk however. Is it so brand new that they don't have it available yet? Its my only guessing.

EDIT:

So I am between the two:

1) 5w40 Turbo Diesel

and

2) 5w40

sorry to bring this up again, but I should be deciding pretty soon as the oil change is due in a few hundreds of KM
