I was talking to the master tech at my local dealer last month. There was a new vRS have a replacement engine fitted after only 1500 miles or so as it used up all its oil, Its the 3rd one to come back to that garage for a new engine.

He said theres big problems with the 1.4tsi and told me and my dad to avoid that engine at all costs.

Just a little info for you guys.

Stephen

I'm sorry but someone who buys a car with an engine like the one in the VRS and doesn't check the oil when driving it hard is always going to run into problems

Yeah that would make sense - I do drive a bit hard at times, but as soon as that light is on I do feed her oil.

1300miles I've used less then a litre Im hoping mines going to be ok

The VRS works out at roughly 130BHP/Litre an Aston Martin DBS produces just 90BHP/Litre

Yes other cars out there do break 200BHP/Litre but they are few and far between in stock form.

For that sort of performance it's only fair for it to expect some TLC and looking after. Just check the oil every couple of times you fill it up with fuel.

Every weekend I check my oil. While its new best to keep an eye on it! :)

Do the same for my dad's Yeti, no point waiting for the light as that can be too late.

Oil should be checked regularly on any car especially a new one running in. The vRS is a performance car so I expect it to use a little. I bet some of these people who've had engine replacements didn't expect a new car to use any, light came on and thought they'd take it in when they had the chance, Next thing they know they've wrecked the engine. To "avoid the engine at all costs" is a bit dramatic. It's not a K Series :giggle:

Asked a friend who works at Audi and maintains the family cars about the engine and he said one or two have had things wrong with them but nothing too much to worry about. With every engine there's bound to be one or two that have teething problems or been made on a Friday. The day I get mine I'll be driving it normally once it's up to temperature. Even got a route in mind to give it a proper shakedown and to see what it's really like.

The RX8 was an oil drinker and they recommended checking it once every two fill ups - maybe a routine like this should be followed. I have used 300/400 ml (last checked and topped up at 1,600 miles) and just gone up to 2,100 miles from new although its due an oil check this weekend prior to going on holiday. Ill update this if i have to top it up.

2250 miles and not a drop of oil gone that i've noticed. Will be checking again in the next few days though been checking weekly! :)

I've gone through 4.5L of a 5L container of oil now.

I understand the sump is only something like 3L so surely it's had an entire oil change by now...

I topped up again today and oil level is now smack bang in the middle of the dipstick.

By the way I picked up the car with 3236 on the clock. There's 4900 on her now, so I don't know what's happened in that first 3K.

Still love the car though. Have been planning my next car to be a 2.0TSI Octavia vRS, but if I can prove that I can live with the Fabia for a while, then she's staying. (I've had 3 Octavia's before now:)

What oil/grade are you using?

  • Author

Mobil 1 502.00 spec

Can't remember the other numbers right now

The Wife's has done about 3K miles, not a drop of oil used, levels checked every Sunday morning

from what I have read on SCN there seems to be a number of issues with cylinder 4 problem starts with carbon build up on the injectors, that then affects the spray pattern leading to a mis-fire, then the unburnt fuel basically de-greases the piston leading to bore wear.

For anyone topping up a lot keep a diary it will come in handy :)

Or, indeed, at every fill up, as recommended in the manual.

if thats true, even more reason to use quality fuels that contain all the addatives designed to keep the enginge clean...

I agree. Does Tesco's 99 Momentum contain the additives too?

I seem to recall that being mentioned yes.

In fact, I think Tesco 99 is the best to run it on?

I've certainly seen a few users suggest this is the case on here.

yes it does, i have tried both tesco 99 and vpower and my vrs gave more mpg on tesco 99 so i stick to that as it is about 4p a litre cheaper than vpower and goives me better results.

I can't see that 4.5L of oil consumed within the 1664 miles that you've owned the car can be termed within acceptable limits by Skoda. Have you contacted the supplying dealer about the issue at all?

I have in my head the upper limit of 1L per 1000 miles as being the level of VAG acceptability, but I'd need to check.

It was 3.5L to be honest, still a lot though.

I haven't contacted the dealer but think I should now given the responses

If only to be told 'that's normal Sir' - then at least you've asked the question and you can keep a record.

Anything more than a litre in that mileage you've covered and I'd be enquiring I think.

indeed, considering I've put 2 litres in in 12,000 miles....

Please let us know what they say. I would say the amount of oil you have put in, something is not quite right.

Good Luck.

Please forgive me, but is this only for the vrs or the 1.2 tsI

Up to 4L of oil used in 2200 miles now.

Went for a more "spirited" drive yesterday (motorway mainly) but I'm not sure if that is my problem?

Either way will be ringing the dealer to seek advice tomorrow.
