VRS Burning oil

Featured Replies

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forums!

Have they checked the correct working of low oil level warning system?

Putting in 1.5 ltrs took it to the correct level on the dipstick?

Oil temps gauge didn't show excessive oil temp?

For oil using Fabia II vRS cars 1.5 ltrs in 8k is nothing lol some people were reporting such usage in 1k!

  • Its never a good feeling when you plunge your dipstick into the hole and it comes out dry...... I can understand the frustrations of thos owners with an issue. When you bag yourself a new/low milea

  • I will ask about the oil breather system before they do any major mechanical works, I will post tomorrow afternoon when I am back from the dealer.

  • Actually there was an amusing (and shocking for me!) confession some time ago when I was repeatedly asking how come you post so much cr@p about the vRS if you've never had one? At least us, we're shar

I must admit I now tend to avoid this forum as it induces oil useage paranoia :bandit: .

I bought mine at a year old and I've had it a year - I only do a low annual mileage (approx. 5,000 - it's really just for kicking about in at the weekend - don't get time to use it much during the week) - I read this forum before purchasing so anticipated oil useage - mine has used a litre in the past year, which I'm fine with.

Was originally planning on only keeping the car two years but now thinking perhaps three or four (as it's absolutely ideal for me - compact, reasonable to insure, love the DSG, not greedy on the juice and has some nice goodies - don't see any point on spunking money on a new car when my mileage is so limited) - read elsewhere that Skoda do a five-year warranty but you need to select this at the time of ordering the car (new) - do Skoda not offer to extend the standard three-year warranty at all? This seems strange as VW offered this on a previous car (obviously both VAG group).

If not it looks like I'll shop around for a warranty from elsewhere nearer the time.

Yes you can extend the warranty for another 2 years after the 3 years is up. i was going to add this 5 years but the dealer said you can do it after the 3

Wifes Fabia in tomorrow for the manifold and Breather pipe

Lokes like mines going back in for more work to cure the oil consumption. 600 miles after the breather and ECU upate and ive used a litre of oil. Just waiting for my dealer to get back to me with a respones from skoda uk and what the next step entails . Im a wee bit P%$$%d off now. Yet another 70 mile return trip to get this sorted out. I should have stuck with another Octavia instead.

As I understand it most VAG TSI/TFSI engines use quite a lot of oil, particularly if they are not driven with any particular verve very often or not at all from new .

I had read a little about the problem before getting our vRS; i'm never particularly gentle with my cars; like to think I dont abuse them either but ours is given beans regularly; is nearly 9K in and has used little oil. It does puff small amounts of blue smoke under heavy acceleration, also it leaves black spatters over the tailgate (its white so fairly obvious) so its obviously burning some; it is normal for a turbocharged petrol car to do this a little though.

My old man has had trouble with oil consumption in two recent VAG cars hes owned, an A3 1.4 TFSi 125 and an A5 2.0 TFSI 180, both he's taken back to the dealers and complained about it but the common link with both is that he's a bit of an MPG chaser these days and consequently hasnt driven either car particularly hard.

Mine went in for a consumption test on Thursday and when they were telling me about bringing it back after 500-600 miles to measure the oil he noticed I had to bring it in for the oil breather to be changed as my engine number was one that needed changing.

So hopefully that will sort out.

just out of interest, my car has just been in for its 40k service, and on checking it over, it seems to have been fitted with the oil breather mod! now I wasn't told this, and have never complained, because mine doesn't use a drop... but i swear tere are new pipes under the cover...

I wonder if its an "upgraded " part that will go on every vRS at its next service?!

I think they are clutching at straws hoping this will fix the problem .. Did nothing for mine along with the ECU Update. I have never in all my cars had a car use a drop even the my early clapped out mini, Fiesta XR2 with 150,000 miles etc etc. To say VAG TSI engines use oil if not thrashed is bull****. Why are some using ****loads and others nowt. Mine gets a mixture of driving styles and burns oil at a totally unacceptable rate. When i did my consumption test i was told to do 300km not 500 to 600 miles. After that amount of miles i would be empty. 12000 miles and im on my third can of oil. Bearing in mind the car had 2000 miles on when i bought it thats 10 litres from purchase. Perhaps ive been driving like a granny thats the problem. They should warn of this in the manual.

I think you are right. As this is a high-ish performance engine it should have different customer advice/"training" that an average oil chugger. I just got mine from the dealers today and first thing I did was driving in high gears on wide open throttle keeping the revs between 2.5k and 3.5k. All on manual paddle shifting.

well mine doesn't need any mods, as it doesn't use a drop.... I'd rather they left it alone!

What is that part number? I'd like to check it against what I have in a brand new one

I'll have a look today, and take a pic to put it up, I could be wrong, but I'm sure some people with the mod will confirm if mine looks the same... hope they havent brokjen it! lol..

In all honesty I think the breather may be helping slightly, our car has now covered the usual 300 miles per oil top up before the breather fix and when dipped the oil on the stick is at the half way along the marks, before the fix the oil would have been just on the ball at the bottom of the stick.

So a slight improvement, but even so 600 miles per top up, would this be just enough for SUK to say it is acceptable?

I am at the mid point of my three year deal now and with the offer of free oil I may just settle at this and in 18 months chop it in for something else, I feel that VAG could have handled the situation much better and I also still think the issues from car to car are down to manufacture tolerances being to wide, maybe this has been tightened up for later engines.

I have a review booked with the dealer at the end of November so I will post up what is said there.

we were in the skoda factory recently, and saw all the engines/gearboxes they make, for example they make the engines and gearboxes for the VW UP! , however the 1.4 twincharger is made in Germany ;) maybe the germans need to step up their quality compaired to czech ;)

I work for a German company and can confirm they are not as efficient or precise as they like to make out. BUT they do pay well so can't be to critical.

How did you get a factory tour SharkRider?

it was a briskoda trip! check out the international meets section, we drove over there, they even took us to a "secret" location full of prototypes and museum cars, and let us take photo's and pics! they are all in the "first videos" thread :) was just a couple of months ago, was very good :)

You've still got the "old" breather. They would have cut the bands holding the two sections of pipe together had they changed it. Part number on the new one is 03C 103 474 AD. Old part number is visible on one of the bands.Only visible difference is the valve(?) just in view top left on your second photo is grey rather than black on the new one.

thanks

Mosquito, very helpful :) it just looked so new! lol.. they didnt say they had changed anything... I'm happy with that, got a good 'un, and they havent messed with it :)

As my breather fix didn't work my car is booked in again for more work. I today contacted trading standards and have typed up a letter as advised with a copy to the dealer stating my intentions to give them one last attempt to rectify the problem. Skoda uk are fully aware that if this doesn't work then i will be rejecting the car for refund or replacement. The dealer has no idea what the next step is but skoda will be contacting their technical department who will contact the dealer.

Skoda Customer services did mention that they had a call earlier from a customer who had the same breather fix and after 1500 miles he hadn't used any oil. Anyone on here?

Mine goes in for the breather fix this Thursday. Currently using 0.5 litres of oil to cover less than 500 miles. I will report back once I have had a chance to clock up some miles after the 'fix'.
