Righty, service time today. Was under 10k since the last one but roughly a tad under 12 months. MOT is on Thursday so I thought it would be good to get fresh oil in the old girl.

Then I had the clever idea to do the oil pick-up pipe at the same time. I'm going to the Nurburgring in 2nd week of September so I wants to rule out any issues with blockages.

So, not particularly exciting pictures but here they are;

Pollen filter first, good job I did it as the air coming into the car was beginning to smell.

Spark plugs, old ones all looked pretty evenly worn so happy days there;

The fuel filter was done last year as well but thought it best to change it, new one will now only have V-Power etc run through it.

Then it was time to get the sump off. Pickup pipe was actually not too bad, couple of little bits in the mesh but not as bad as some. Car is on 71k for reference.

The sump was pretty minging so I gave that a good scrub up too;

Pickup pipes side by side, and new one fitted:

Filled it up with fresh oil and started her up. Went for a quick drive and parked back up to check the sump and disaster, a leak!

Tightened up the bolts a touch to see if that would work and it didn't. Luckily the leak was coming from a small gap so I squirted some more sealer in there, looks ok at the moment but ill keep watch over the next couple of days.

Job done for today, got fresh gearbox oil to go in but no 17mm hex bit so i need to get one.

Finally another daylight picture of the wrapped grill;

Looking tidy B)

How does that induction kit sound? Does it give a nice gurgle?

Sounds good, the car is virtually stock sounding when going steady, turns into a bit more of an animal the more you press the loud pedal :)

Ok, car had its MOT yesterday. The day before my pads sounded like they were dragging so I parked up and had a feel of the wheels. The OSR wheel was red hot. After trying some tips recommended on here, no amount of effort was going to work and I had a goosed caliper.

Knowing this, I sent it for MOT anyway as the retest was free and I could rectify any other faults highlighted, what I wasn't expecting was BOTH calipers to be binding. I had to order another caliper, and new discs and pads whilst I was there.

One caliper is here (TRW/Lucas with the Audi Symbol ground off!) so im waiting on the other bits to arrive so I can fit them and get the retest done.

My callipers were the same, thought it was very odd!

Nice same too. Work fine though.

Fresh calipers, discs and pads fitted last week. No pics but it was a nice easy job, made use of my eezibleed as well.

Both rear calipers were seized, one more so than the other, have a guess which side was the worst??

Driver side worst.

Mine was anyway, and I think my passenger side is starting to seize up...

  • Author

Yep it was the driver side. All new stuff is on and working fine however I'm not really using the handbrake at the moment, I want to buy the return springs to fit first.

Nothing much happening at the moment, I'm in the USA with work so the car is parked on the driveway gathering dust.

I have a new OSR door lock on the way from Oet (thanks!) as the current one doesn't want to unlock, luckily dead locks are not on though. I have also ordered a pack of stainless cable ties for the rear exhaust hanger (Y shaped one) as they have snapped for the second time, chaffing on the opening that was made so that needs smoothing.

Also had to send OSR tyre off for major repair as it picked up a nail on the outside section of the tyre.

Bought the above picture from the 'ring trip, too. Love it :)

I think it looked better without all the tape over the back bumper, and the sticks attached to it :giggle:

Looks good I think. Isn't *quite* flush with the curve of the bumper underneath, plan is to bolt at either end and the middle and where there's a bit of an air gap underneath use washers as spacers. Must have moved a little bit as we propped it up!

Verdict and 42's are in. Slop has gone especially left to right, feels good changing gear, reasonably heavy but it feels quite 'weighted' now :)

It looks nice but i think the exhaust should be a little bit outer to looks awesome

Looks good buddy.

I like it.

Sent from my Samsung S3

looks good but still not sure if i need one :giggle:

Well.. That's it now! I've considered my options on where to go next with the car and the answer is... No where. I've spent as much as I want to spend on the car now, aside from maintenance I've spent my lot on the Red Baron.

I'll be keeping her another 18 months or so and then changing/upgrading :)
