Fabia Xenon Headlights (Official Group Buy)

Featured Replies

Got my depo's today! Very nice

Feel sorry for the people that got deterred from this group buy because certain people thought the build quality was shabby.

For the record, the build quality is good imo, I could almost say as good as oem.

i agree, mines still have to be adjusted so hopefully the adjusters will be ok

For the price, I agree the build quality is bloody good!

I mean the once the end of the D2S adapter is on the back of the bulb, it sticks out too far for the cover to go on once

I've got these:

Yes I have the same adapters, and as Simons said plenty of room. Sounds odd, what bulbs do you have, I know d2s but maybe so places vary slightly in the lengthy of the back and pin? I got mine from carmodshop so if you did too I'm confused lol

Got mine today would have been yesterday but missed the delivery any chance i could meet up with you simon as your down this way so i could see yours in person cus im a fussy bugger when it comes to the bulb colour dunno weather to go with 4300k or 5000k

OK, discovered why the cover wasn't going on.

After comparing it to the other light, one of my bulbs doesn't sit in the adapter right, meaning it was sticking out by a mile.

The bulb itself is not right, so unless I can get a replacement tomorrow, they won't be going in this weekend :'(

Least it's nothing worse and easily sorted :)

Checked again today, the bulb is definitely duff.

Probably a bit cold to be faffing about fitting them today anyway.

Tried to phone them but they are closed until Monday - hopefully they'll just ship out a replacement.

Well although the weather was not brilliant today decided to fit my new Xenon headlights

I received them Monday this week and had already bought a HID Kit from HID Direct which I received last Friday. To protect my investment I ordered some subtle tint lamin-x. The lamin-x was fitted Wednesday and I also decided to test the HID kit. One worked OK but the other one failed. After a quick test with a multi-meter I discovered that the fault was in the d2s lead adaptor. Thursday morning a quick phone call to HID Direct and was promised a new lead by the following day which indeed turned up. So bad weather or not wanted them fitted today

Verdict

Relatively easy to fit, great look for the car but as for light output a but of a fail.

Went back out this evening and adjusted the headlamps roughly by re-aligning against some marks that I had made the previous night on a fence by me.

Took for a quick drive up a fairly busy road and was not flash by anyone so roughly pointing in the right direction.

One stretch of the road has no street lamps so could clearly see the beam patten on the road (very sharp cut off) and seemed to be in the right place (will be taking my local garage to be adjusted next week)

Unfortunately not happy with the light output. It is very white compared to my old setup but nowhere near as bright, could possibly be the lamin-x cutting the output down a bit or possibly a poor quality HID kit or perhaps rather spoilt my the previous setup of 100 watt rally sport bulbs. To give people an idea of the difference I could switch my front fogs on and off on my old setup and not really notice an increase in light output directly in front of the car, only a bit more at the sides (as it should) mow there is a noticeable increase in luminance in front of the car when I switch the Fogs on.

Anyway not gonna think about it too much until I get them properly aligned next week. May be buying a 50 watt HID kit if I'm not happy (anyone tried these before).

Not wanting to put anyone off but I think the problem is that I have been spoilt by the previous 100 watt bulbs. If I had went from the standard 55 watt ones I would most probably be happy

Other than that really happy with them decent quality and really suit the car much better funny thing is though my main beam seems brighter than before !

What colour temp did you get?

My OE Xenons render the foglights 'For decoration only'!

Sorry should have put that in my post 4300k, I'm not saying they are not bright, most probably brighter than standard bulbs, but not as bright as my old setup, I should have tried them without the lamin-x on first !

Karl

Just lose the lamin-x........it's not a fair comparison otherwise

I'd say the difference between useful light and light output may be what your noticing, as time goes on and you see the more useful light hopefully you'll think otherwise lol and yeh lose the lamin x

O`v not noticed the lack oif ligfht with the lamin-x. But then I havent used projectors yet. My mates got some oem projectors and his palnning on some lamin-x soon so i`ll see whatthey are like.

The old lights also had lamin-x on them but it was what they call optic blue which had the effect of removing the yellow tint from halogen bulbs making them more white but they too cut down on light output hence the 100 watt bulbs. As the new lights have black insert I decided to go with the subtle tint lamin-x for protection and to reduce the amount of chrome seen from the front of the car. I do think the lamin-x is reduceing the light output and to night noticed that on a particular corner as I am going up a small incline I always light up the house in front of the car extremely brightly but now with the Xenons nowhere near. Looks like I need to get some clear lamin-x or a 50 watt HID kit !

Hi Karl, what bulbs did you have in before? Any links?

Im going to lamin-x mines (subtle smoke) would it be worth my while getting 55w HIDs? And wheres the best/popular place to buy a conversion kit from, theres effin hundreds to choose from :S

Hi Karl, what bulbs did you have in before? Any links?

Hi Barbourc1, Just do a search on ebay for 'ring rally sport' and it will bring up loads, I actually wanted the 80 watt versions but they had been discontinued so they sent me the 100 watt versions (it does say for off road use only). They are much brighter than my previous phillips bulbs.

Yes Robbie that the same tint that I've got on mine which is what I believe is the cause of the poor performance. I am reluctant to remove the lamin-x because I like the dark tint so I'm very tempted to buy a set of the 50/55 HIDs as well.

Bought mine from HIDs Direct, seem OK and they also do a 50 watt version as well.

Karl

If anyone is interested I could arrange a group buy for HID kits to fit into the projector lenses everyone has bought?

I'd be interested in a 55w kit, are the bulbs different aswel? Or just the ballast? If its only the ballast of just like a pair of ballasts as I already have the bulbs :) thanks

I can get 55w kits as well as 35w's. I can get full kits or just ballasts in your case! The ballasts would be black slim ballasts :)

Sounds good! Would the replacement 55w ballasts be compatible with the bulbs I already have? Or would I need 55w bulbs too?

Any idea on pricing and quality of ballasts? Where do they come from?

Thanks

Yep they will be fine! I'm not too sure for just the ballasts but I would aim to get the kits for £45 delivered (would have to confirm this) They are a good supplier I have used for the last 3 years from China. I've sold them over on the Saxo forums and ebay with plenty of great feedback!

Ive been following this thread very closely, reading all the posts and i was very interested in them till i read they were poor quality. Ive still been following it and read, on numerous posts that they're infact, a good quality light unit. Off the back of that ive just ordered some from them, along with the adapters and bulb (already have ballasts) and also some clear security film for a little extra protection. I now cant wait for the stuff to turn up and get them in!
