Erm my Clio is slower up Dinmore than that

My CG was absolutely flat out at 60mph, but that was screaming.

45mph was a realistic cruising speed.

So that sounds about right tbf.

Yeah, my Sukida 125 would do 65-odd, too, but was better around 50mph.

At 45mph, the Vox is nearly silent and vibration free, with torque to pull away.

Sounds good.

Just gotta remember not to try any heroics.

I got stuck on the wrong side of the road a few times cos people think its funny to speed up when you overtake.

I dont miss that bit haha

Yeah, that's true!

They are the best in traffic tbf.

As you know, the bigger the bike the harder it is in traffic isnt it.

I find myself waiting whilst following my dad. Cos his car sized r1200gs adventure wont fit through a gap

The viffer isnt too bad. Nout like a 125 though

First time I rode a bike with pannier boxes on after a sports 125, I went through a gap in the traffic, but my boxes didn't  :D  :D

At least they detached and bounced down the road without damaging either car  :x

It was a nightmare this evening,

A49 closed at A417 junction, bottom of Dinmore, car and bike serious accident, guess very serious as still shut, hope they are ok

I was wondering why it was blocked off with police van when I went around the Wiggins Roundabout, had to take the A4110 instead

Oh no! Really? Thats the things nightmares are made of!

The viffers good in the way that the boxes dont stick out too much and i can see em in the mirrors.

Dads is like a great big thing with scaffolding round it. I cant even reach the floor on it :(.

I'm on coaches tonight, had to divert via Ivington and Canon Pyon, to drop in Hereford earlier, due out to collect punters 0100 from Hereford, so will go see again in an hour or so...

Cannon Pyon is slightly quicker for me but I'm really not a fan of the roads nearer to home if I go that way especially in ice

I very nearly bought a new GS but the R1200RT clinched it on the stereo  :sun:

They are a great bike, but have got too "trendy" for me so I would not have one now; the wrong people are buying them as a style statement and some of the riders are embarrassing to watch on them-a bit like many Harleys with the weekend beards.  The RT fell to bits in 6 months, nothing like my old R1150RT which was a proper bike.

He loves his. He bought it new in 2012 as a present to himself.

He doesnt take it off Road, he doesnt ride it that often, but when he does he goes on a big trip.

He did 900 miles in a day last year getting back from Switzerland and in all his biking experience (40 years or so) he couldnt think of a better bike for it. Its got a 33l tank so hes no need to stop really. Just keeps going.

He had the r1150gs (r1100rs before that) and said that was more solid, but hes had no problems with this one. He also had an 04 plate 1200gs inbetween which he likes but wasnt as good as the 1150.

He reckons the 1200 twin cam is the best engine. Its faster than the previous ones and feels lots better.

Test rode the new 1200 water cooled one with a view to buy but the gearbox was soo clunky and horrible that it put him off completely. So hes gonna stick with his for abit.

Tbf. For whst he uses it for. Its ideal. Loads of road presence, loads of storage, happy at most speeds, comfy, quick enough etc etc.

He is a little tempted for the r1200rs though i think, if theyve sorted the gearbox

Yes, the GSs are good, one of my favourites and a great investment if you bought before the LWD vids and held onto it.  The right people using them for the right reasons, great-esp with the long range tank, but the weekend style merchants who can't ride for toffee just make the whole brand a parody of itself.

As said, many'd be better off instead spending the first year's GS depreciation on a reliable snotter and the fuel and costs to have a real adventure....

In my eyes, they are best for long distance hacking on all roads, but for true off road adventures they are now far too complex to be useful in the world's remote areas.

For that you need the old R100GS or an old Armstrong Rotax.

"yes, I'd like a new ECU for the ABS please, my sat nav co-ords are........  "

Yeah i know what you're saying, and i dont understand it.

I mean. As a fashion statement, its a massive great thing to be hurling round country roads. Its Just too big for that tbf. So if you arent gonna go anywhere, it seems pointless aha.

Its his hobby, so hes not really bothered what things cost, he just likes something thats up to the job and decent. I dont think he'll stray from a big bmw now tbf.

Hope he gets the r1200rs tbf. I prefer them aesthetically.

Hes ridden my vfr and says how it just falls into corners and how small it feels compared. Seems to be abit quicker than his too tbf. Iv caught up on some fast overtakes. Hes not interested in having one though, its not got the range

They suit the right people if buying for the right reasons, eg range, size etc.  Having ridden the big BMWs, I know what he means when he rides other stuff and he sounds like he's had loads of BMW experience.  I like the shaft drive and the telelever/paralever set up and the range.

When in the mood, I used to annihilate weekend sports riders down the lanes as I ran on stickies and hooned it onto the head guards; at my weight it feels like a 125!  The thing is, sat high on the BMW, I was tall and could see over the cars, the hedges etc and use more of the road, and before sports bikes had ABS, I had it-along with the anti-dive telelever set up so could take more risks-and when the weekend ninja sports guys were booked for speed, I was pointed at and told to take it easier by the police  :D

What I'm getting at are the guys that fully spec up an Adventure GS to £17k, then do 500 nervous miles a year in the dry, but tell the world an oh-so-different story....

I'm more impressed by C90 guys going across Alaska, or similar!

I love the GS, but I'm a bit put off by the new crowd of fakers. (I'm not classing your Dad as one!)

Ahaha sounds brilliant fun!

I know exactly what you're talking about. Noo i never thought you were (:

Its more of an imagine thing for some people now isnt it. Its not what the bikes designed for.

Its no different than some of these people with gsxr 1000's n what not that cant ride for toffee. If caught up with a few myself and let them go. In fear that theyd feel too pressured and ride even worse.

That was after i followed a bike round a bendy road that i know well. He was keen to get away but id ridden that road loads of times. One of the corners switched back abit, and the bike infront didnt. And there was a car coming. How he missed it i dont know, he musta had mm's to spare.

That put me off having a laugh with people abit.

My Harley is about twice the weight as most BMWs but I'll take them (and sportbikes) on thru the twisties.

PS: I do have a beard and am a pensioner

Haha ;).

All the weights low down isnt it though.

Doesnt it bottom out?

Dad had one briefly. An electroglide i think it was.

He loved the engine (1560cc i think) but hated the brakes and handling

There is a sale on this weekend at http://earfuze.com/holiday  I have had a set for a few years now, really good and comfy, I use mine for hearing the Zumo whilst out on the bike, might treat myself to a new set for next year.

Haha ;).

2009 Electraglide Ultra Classic. 430kg

Only bottoms out when it goes over, scrapes footboards when pressing on thru twisties.

2009 models on have Brembo anti-lock brakes that are excellent and also has the new frame that makes handling very good.

The new Rushmore bike for this year are even better, did 3143 miles on one on Route 66 this year and was most impressed.

Have had it on 3 or 4 days at Cadwell Park and it suprises quite a few.

Haa. That sounds good. Sounds alot more advanced than the one he had.

I cant remember the name of his tbf. I get confused in the Harley world haha

It was an 09 plate to i think

Fair play, I have ridden most of the range and the newer stuff can handle if you know what you're doing....which is my point, I like Harleys too and can see the point of owning and being part of HOG, but again, the 500 dry mile a year riders who buy them to pose and can't ride for toffee have a habit of making the brand look daft to many other bike owners.

Those who buy any bike and can ride it properly get my respect, it is those that use it as a posing tool and can't ride-but assume superiority over riders of cheaper stuff that irritate me!
