Lolol yeah, prob best not to just take it off and the bike falls over :D I wasnt going to spend too much on it but even just for storing and chain lubricating it'll be handy. I'll get some pictures when it's here.

Also got a call from my brother earlier, he'd somehow, and god knows how, persuaded the local BMW dealership to loan him this for a bit

Yeah! Haha. The CB hasnt got a centre stand then? Its such a pain not having one isnt it!

That s1000rr will be fun! Hes lucky to get on one, i heard they dont allow test rides till 25?

I've been meaning to pop in to manchester bmw and try for a test ride though. My dads bought 4 brand new r1200gs n similar off them, so was hoping theyd let me have a spin haha.

No centre stand, pain in the bum! The old CB was much easier to do stuff in that respect.

I dont know how he managed it, he's 23 but has been riding a couple of years now, I think the insurance varies between franchises. It was a bike that is actually for sale, 64 plate with 2000 miles for £12k so he could only have a hour on it, they said when they get the demo bike in he could take it for longer. Spoke to my dad and he said that a while back he went to the same dealers and they more or less forced him to try a GS out for a afternoon :D I know I shouldnt be looking at other bikes but I fancy the S1000R as the CB replacement when the time comes so might nip over in the summer for a look round, seems to be the ultimate naked bike at the moment. It's actually a nice dealers too, got a mini/bmw car sections then a bike section with a cafe too.

Weather was dry but cold when I got home from work yesterday but after looking at the 7r in the garage I had to get it out. It's not been out since the insurance lapsed and I wasn't going to re insure it till next year but at only £200 for the year I thought I may as well get it done.

Didn't go far as it was mighty chilly under leathers but was very enjoyable.

Sounds like we all need a trip to that dealers. They sound brill haha.

Did he like the RR then? I can imagine he loved it! How many wheelies did he pull? ;) haha.

The R does look nice. I agree (:

I saw a cb1300 the other day and rather liked the look of that tbh. Big naked.

I think i fancy a naked bike next

I dont usually go for inline 4's. Dont find them that interesting if im honest. But a 1300cc one should be alright im thinkin

Edit: scrap that. I bet its not as fun as the viffer and its no faster either

He LOVED the RR, the salesman put it on rain mode for him (150bhp) so he rode to the end of the car park and put it back on sport :D Said it was just ballistic when he opened it up but round town it would happily plod along at low revs.

The CB1300;

Sounds good to me! I want a go aha.

Yeah like that.

I dno. I want another v twin ideally.

The viffers good though. I do like it. Im just always lookin at other stuff as soon as i get something aha

The CB1300 was by far the best quality, best finished bike at the NEC show, I was wowed by it.

It is a thing of engineering and production beauty and quality, making some of the other brands (notably some of the Kwaks) look like Chinese quality in comparison...

I like honda build quality as a whole tbf. I found the suzuki i had wasnt built half as well as the Hondas.

Yams seem to have a cheap feel IMO, and abd kwaks arent that good either.

Bmw's are good though arent they. Just not as good as they used to be

My new Suzuki Bandit 1200 in 1998 was poor, the frame rusted visibly and the clocks steamed up after six months, the BMWs I had were variable, the 98 R1100RT was strong, the later R1150RT was exceptionally good, the R1200RT new in 05 had endless quality issues, design faults and warranty claims in 6 months.

My experience was the 1150 was the peak of build quality, the 1200 the start of the demise into over-popularity and perhaps rushing to build them.

That CB at the show looked like it was built lovingly from the best quality parts and paint made-and would last forever.

The metals were thick, the paints deep and perfect, the chrome heavy and the build absolutely flawless.

Some of the other bikes shown had visible rust, odd panel gaps, rough edges, mismatched plastics, mismatched fonts on the controls etc, but not the CB1300.

The easiest way I can compare is that the other Jap stuff was designed and assembled to a spec and cost, the BMWs were built by a very busy, perhaps too busy engineering team-and the Honda built by someone who really loved the bike, the history etc and owned and rode the exact same bike themselves.

I've not been so impressed by a single model at a show ever before.

I've just watched a video of someone on a Husqvarna Nuda 900, looked a riot and sounded mental. Not sure how comfortable it'd be for my fat arse but the reviews reckon they're quite comfortable. I still fancy a supermoto kinda bike. I think scooter for town, supermoto for ****ing about and the CB/S1000R for longer trips, maybe sacrifice some of the looks with a little fly screen for comfort at speed. So 3 bikes, not too many. I dont have the physique for a sports bike and in all honest would never touch what one is capable of.

From what I can gather BMW have admitted the quality of some parts of the S1000RR have been lacking but they have been fair in sorting issues even out of warranty. They reckon they're upping quality control now.

Thats the thing mate. I want something thats a riot for short trips, and comfy for long trips too. Only i struggle. The vfr is a great load of fun tbf, its fast, its plenty fast enough for the road, but its not fast in the same way that an s1000 or aprillia tuono would be.

Youd have it sorted with 3 bikes! Very nice! I've only got room for one :(.

Regarding bmw quality, its not just the s1000. Its their entire range tbh. My dads had multiple brand new bikes off them and hes noticed them slowly getting less well built.

R1100rs (as a more recent one. They go way back. Hes got a r450 with next to no miles and in new condition lol) was very well built, the r1150gs was very solid. The 04 r1200gs was alright, still well built but less do than the previous. The 2012 r1200gs adventure is the best hes ever had to ride, but seems a little flimsy in comparison. Much more plastic etc instead of solid, heavy, metal.

Bad times, hopefully they get the quality heading the right way again.

As far as the 3 bikes go, it'll take a few years, I really need to save for a house and wedding sooner rather than later, I'd like to maybe get the scooter next year then a supermoto can wait a bit. Getting a fun/hooligan bike round town and something comfortable for longer trips will be hard I'd imagine, but you're a few years younger than me though, nothing stopping you have the space in the future?

Im 22 yeah. Still living at home. There would be loads of room here if my dad didnt have loads of bikes too haha.

How old are you then?

Meh. Marriage, bike, marriage? Bike bike bike!

Supermoto would be sooo much fun.

Hahahaha if only, I'm only 25 but me and the Mrs have lived together for a good 5 years now. If all fairness, before I met her I'd have just said bike bike bike too :D

She'd be flattered if she read this, im sure haha.

I've been with mine for 3 years now. She still knows where she stands with the bikes though.

Shes got me a nice leather jacket for christmas too, n she hates bikes too. But she knows I'll never stop aha.

I have a problem parting company with bikes, when I was younger I bought a XT500 as a general runaround and winter bike, still got it, I also bought a Ducati SD900 and used that for summer and fine weather, still got it, I then bought a chopped ironhead sportster, to use when the weather was not good enough for the Ducati but not bad enough for the XT... still got it.. then after the divorce, I decided it would be nice to have a new bike, so bought a V-Raptor, once I bought that, I learnt of the XtraRaptor (a limited edition V-Raptor with carbon bits), so the V-Raptor had to go, and the Xtra was bought. All I need to do, is try and get the bikes back together and running, only one that is road legal is the Xtra at the moment.

But she knows I'll never stop aha.

When I was 17 my mum told me bikes were a phase I'd grow out of, I'm 52 now, and she still says I'll grow out of bikes, but she does admit, that it's taking longer than she thought it would..

Ahaha.

I dont think my mums over happy with it, but my dads had em since he was 12. Hes 54 now i think and hes still at it.

So it was inevitable that atleast one of there 3 sons would be bike mad too.

Me. Middle son. Guilty.

Ah dear. Is not sell mine if i didnt have to in order to get a decent next one haha.

Yeah my Mum is the same. When her and my dad split he done his bike test and took me and my brother out on it, then at 16/17 I had bikes and she hated it. I went over to cars for the next few years while my brother went straight to bikes. He got all the flack over it so when I finally decided I wanted to do my test she had already accepted it really. It was just my Mrs that needed persuading then, the pair of them worry no doubt but they know I'm not stupid and will do all I can to protect myself, you cant live in a ball of cotton wool. In a funny way I think my dad worries more about us because he sees first hand how quickly things can go wrong and how it can be out of our control at times.

I've found that "find friends" has worked well for me, if I'm out and not answering my phone, Jane checks on Find Friends, and if I'm moving she knows I'm OK so doesn't worry as much.

I cant imagine your brother bothering with the 'flack'. Judging by previous posts haha.

But yes, i know what you mean. My dads like that too, hes had a few bad smashes. Some when he was younger and abit quick, now hes slowed down, experienced and sensible and he still gets it from time to time. (He got rear ended by taxi in holland, thats how the 1150GS got written off). He knows how it goes.

As do i. I've had a smash myself through no fault of my own. It wasnt nice. I didnt really learn from it cos there was nothing i could of done, but it hurt.

Its far too fun to stop doing it though. I just love it. When its going right.

The power. The feel. The freedom. Etc etc. i just love it. Infact. I need to shut up, cos i wanna ride my bike soo much now haha.

Can she tell where you are?

I like the freedom. I can go anywhere, at any speed. I dont want my parents or anybody seeing where i am or worrying when i stop for too long.

I can see it now. I've stopped for a tea two sugars, but actually I've got my **** up some other girl, in SWMBO's head.

SWMBO's pretty good. Trusts me. But she doesnt need to know that much haha.

Supermoto you say :)

The only bike I ever loved and truly hated, blew up every other week, oil changes measured in hours, forward facing kick start so the starting procedure was fun, but it went, handled and wheelied like nothing else I'd owned
