Look After Yourself

Plan was to remove the metal as it was causing pain and discomfort 24/7 affects sleep since broke it, can't kneel and don't have full range of movement in knee or ankle etc. They couldn't get it out and gave up. So have the same recovery to do now as if they had got it out but all in vain. Bolts are gone but they didn't give me any bother. Next plan is to cross fingers that for rest of my life it doesn't need to be removed for one of the 20 odd medical reasons they routinely do need taken out for. Or the chances of breaking leg again could be catastrophic having a metal bar running down centre of the bone lol.

The pain etc I am more than used to now, I would love for it to be gone but it is what it is I can live with it, not got much choice. It is titanium so the bone is bonding to it, the longer it is in there the less likely anyone will ever be able to get it out. They said the risk of breaking leg and getting it out were too close so they stopped. I would have preferred leg to be broken taking it out than it to be left in personally. I am young enough and healthy enough to recover from it at moment and in 10 years time if it has to be removed it will be the entire leg below knee with it.

Some great bikes in here :)

Here's my 2002 yz 426f

It's nothing startling compared to some of the beauties in here but i've had it about 5 years now,it was great fun bike for the first couple of years and when I could use it to commute to work in the warmer months etc but as I now work about 30 miles from home and it's too highly strung to do that distance day in day out and as i don't really get the time to ride it in my spare time it's been sorn'd for two years :( I should just sell it on and let someone else enjoy it but can't bring myself to sell lol

That looks like so much fun and looks like the right sort of place to be able to have fun on it, do you still use it off the road so to speak? Don't sell get her back on road!

Know what you mean, just sold my 7R and am struggling to put up my DRZ400 supermoto up for sale lol.

They're just so much fun and the looks you get from joe public is funny. You never thought about racing it?

know you've been treated in a fair few hospitals , but is it worth trying to find another Orthopaedic surgeon for their opinion? So many advances all the time in medicine, don't give up hope that this can yet be resolved properly. Like you say you are young and healthy and so your leg should mend well if you need another operation.

Wishing you a speedy recovery

I will certainly get my monies worth and when I move back to the UK seek a further consultation, but it would be hard to find a surgeon that would go against another (one I went with in end was fairly big in NHS tbh). Problem is its all been cut up and messed with twice now, never fully recovered from first time and will likely have a notable difference in recovery again this time. It would need more severe symptoms to get anyone to go near it and how much of a knee would be left after from going through it again is questionable...... What a bugger! I did ask when debating with surgeon initially, "what would happen if it needs to come out when im say 15 years older" answer was "it wouldn't come out". This is the real drama behind it. In future would be such a big deal would be financially threatening with employment etc too.

Yes supermotos are great fun Fubar and I no longer take it off road as I sold the off road wheels as I could never be bothered to swap it over between on and off road and to be honest it was more fun on Tarmac :)

and your right R1davie it's tough trying to bring yourself to sell supermotos as they are such a hoot and I know I'd miss it once it was gone,I'll probably keep it now as it owes me nothing sitting there and to be honest they havnt really depreciated over the 5 years I've had it so wouldn't really lose out and as for racing then no I wouldn't try it as I'm getting older and slower lol

Love your drz too :)

This might get you in the mood a little :D

Passed my Mod 2 today!

Went down to the yard for a hour out before the test so I could get out any niggles and on the way down it ****ed down with my wipers on full I was dreading it. Got there and it had eased. Rode over to the shop so my instructor could get something and the Neutral light wouldn't go out. All the shifting was fine but wouldn't go out. Thinking to myself that everything was against me I just though f**k it and get on with it. Thankfully it went out after a mile or so. Did a few laps and I was fine. Got to the test centre and the sun came out. Last thing I was told was to watch my 4 second gap because this examiner was hot on it as well as keeping speed up. 65mph wouldn't be good enough and had to be 70mph. The warm up realy helped as I got the chance to do it.

Examiner came out, asked me some bike questions, eyesight test, etc and told me to head for Briton Ferry which is about 5 miles away. Went fine but when you come out of the centre back to the main road, you turn right onto a 50mph dual. In front was a polish lorry so I wasn't that confident what he'd do next so followed him into the left lane then checked it was clear and passed. Thinking to myself he could have deemed it hesitation that I hadn't gone straight into lane two to pass I relaxed and rode exactly as I would in a car while still doing correct observations. What will be will be. Overtook quite a few things then he made me do lots of left and right turns in succession then stop at the kerb and pull away. Then had to do two hill starts. First one fine, second one I'd forgotten to change back to first and ended up doing it in 2nd. Me thinking the worst I just carried on and after a while we went to back to the centre. Told me I'd passed with only the 2nd gear hill start as a minor. Asked about the lorry and he said that he wondered why I didn't bomb past the lorry and that I wasn't a novice so if I would do it in a car then it would be fine on the bike.

Instructor was chuffed and the climb from nothing to passing can be pretty big so to only get the one minor with little bike experience beforehand was good. In comparison to the person who passed before me who'd ridden bikes for years but not much on the road got 9 minors because he was nervous on the day. Now it's time to start looking at bikes.

Thats fantastic Martyn, well done :-D

Good job mate :)

I own two bikes, one for the road and one for off roading at weekends.

Dark blue Suzuki GSX1250FA

Yellow Suzuki DRZ 400 S

I rarely drive these days although my wife and I are active at meets. The Skoda is officially hers.

Awesome result I read that wanting to skip to the end for result but I didn't. Going to be an awesome spring/summer for you hopefully. If you think it would be of any use when you get a bike pay instructor for a couple more lessons to help you adjust to it.

I had a bike stuck in 2nd for hill start and decided sod it I will just go anyway moved off about 5-10 meters and had to stop again full checks and indicate lolol Honda CG 125 wasn't having any of it, after he said "it wouldn't change down would it". :)

Top result Martyn!

Thanks. Just need to find a bike now. Still thinking CBR600F or SV650. Prefer the looks of the CBR and it has a fuel gauge. Not that much about at the moment unless I'm looking in the wrong places. Sods law there were bargains just after Christmas. Budget is around 4k

4K your laughing there are thousands of bikes out there, I would suggest buy as quick as you can NOW before prices and demand for summer pick up. Get to a bike dealer/traders who will let you test ride used bikes on your thoughts list, then decide. A lot of nice bikes out there for 4K!

Ebay / Ebay classified ads

MCN (online)

Auto/Biketrader (ok ish)

Most traders and dealers list their stock on their own web sites and Ebay linked these days so I would have a look on there search by distance from your post code your willing to travel etc.

I got news in work this week that with my contract ending soon they might not just shaft me and are looking into extending my contract but possibility of transferring me 1500km away ........... Would be a show stopper for bike no idea how the hell I would move it there as well as car and all my crap! The amount it would cost me to do so would be more than I would loose giving a 8 month old bike to 'WeBuyAnyBike.com' :o

Good bikes, not the sportiest but ideal for starting out on.

I may know a bloke that works there lol ;-)
