Apologies for a slight hijack but I've read this thread from the start and it seems the perfect place to ask.

What's the general thoughts on selling used crash helmets? As I have two in the loft I don't need, Is it a bit of a dodgy area?

Fire away anything bike related in here go for it.

I know mine are tip top and would happily sell them to a friend, I would however personally advise them to buy new if possible or if my old one to replace lining, as it tends to shape to the riders specific skull when worn in. On the other hand I would never buy one second hand off anyone as I would never really know 110% that the lid is fine. Could still buy a new one in shop that's been half way around the world to get there and been badly handled but there is only so much you can do.

I am funny about even keeping my own too long my current Shark S900 has 5 year warranty etc and should be good for that but I intend to replace it this year at 3 years old. Will still be kept as my spare and eventually it will retire to trophy status and end up on top shelf in a garage some day if I ever own one :D

Cheers for the reply, this is why I asked because like yourself I would never buy a second hand helmet, maybe I should keep them for the memories.

I think it would be awesome in later life to look at a shelf somewhere with all my helmets lined up in date order, would bring back some good times! I can't remember if you have posted already, if not what you riding/ridden and any pics? :D

They are worth selling as some folk buy cheap helmets to practice their painting skills. Plus depending on what helmet and paint scheme people collect them, as I sold a schwantz replica a few years back. Didn't get loads for it but it was better than a slap in the face :D

Personally I'd never but second hand, you don't know where it's been and who's sweaty head it has been on! I was told a few years back that you shouldn't keep them over 5 years as sweaty heads starts to degrade the glue used in them.

Slight hijack myself. Who watched the World superbikes?

Still bikeless and will be for the foreseeable future

It's just my old age sorry. I remembered No.52 when I went back, but I missed 247! There is something about the SRAD hump that I really like always looked so solid! Second pic is an awesome colour scheme! (however I don't like the similar hump in the busa's)

Yeah the SRAD was a complete impulse buy, saw it in the window of a bike shop as I rode past, pulled over for a look, fell in love, raced to the bank on the vfr400 and did a p/x deal that day. I do miss being young and having spare cash like that.

I sold one of mine nearly new and got a reasonable sum for it. Got to say I would never buy second hand myself unless I knew the history inside out. Bit like buying a second hand kids car seat.

im also going to say something and see how many of you guys understand!

double bloody decker!

His latest vid went up last night, I did quite enjoy it as usual lol.

He's just another arrogant london rider who thinks he owns the road. Some bits were fair play, but it's London and that place is just a bubble unto itself. Having ridden there many times you need eyes everywhere and accept people don't pay enough attention to their driving.

Subscribed :D I know I haven't passed but I can't see me filtering that aggressively

Some valid moans from Barron BUT big but...,.,,

He put himself in most of those situations by riding too aggressively and too close.

I'm all for filtering and making progress but he rides like a bit of a d1ck, his road positioning is awful and he shows himself committing multiple traffic offences!

Glad I don't ride in the city though as you would probably end up riding like that out of nessessety!

Yep, he brings most of that upon himself. I'll filter like mad when it suits me, but I know that my risk levels are through the roof and it makes it much harder for cars to see me.

He doesnt bill himself as a good example or try to teach his own ways etc. he is just entertaining to watch, check out his other videos some crackers in there. I posted the off road vid on here ages ago guy is nuts! The repsol with quick shifter one is awesome made me want one, just for the sound!

Was hunting for something last night on one of my hard drives and found some old GoPro stuff from last bike. I was miserible listening to the awesome sound it made and the gratuitous popping on deceleration. :( I still maintain that the Z1000SX feels like a moped in comparison. :|

Here is one I remembered because the useless, over weight, over age, no neck worthless mother trucker in the Chrysler was on his phone in his right (stealth to Police) hand and couldn't be assed and took my right of way to save his old pre occupied bingo wing from having to change gear. In pic at bottom what sort of control did he think he had or needed when playing chicken with a bike, holding the wheel like that. He had very minimal control of the vehicle. In UK I would not have the risk of a language barrier to discuss such matters with a driver.

1080p it! (quality chopped way down for speed of upload)

Still of the afore mentioned (single click to enlarge)

Yikes that's a bit too close for comfort :S
