  • It's funny. Before I found this site, I would never have dreamt of doing mods or even considered buying a dash cam! A bad influence you lot are!!

  • This picture should sum up what I got around to today and what element to this task went wrong after I returned from an extended test drive for a comparison video v the Blackvue.........     chrisw

  • Because you'll have a dead phone after a while from it constantly writing to the flash memory, unless you use a replaceable card.   Because you can leave the camera in the car when parked up to catc

Lol the fakes were what I was also trying to avoid lol

It does get warm I must admit, but I can still touch it. Never run it for more than an hour though

It gets a LOT warmer running on battery than on USB power. I ran it on battery for a couple of hours on a warm day in summer and couldn't touch the thing when it finished, and nearly burned myself on the heatsink.

Fast forward a day, same temps etc, ran it on USB power and it was much cooler.

I wrote to the ebay seller and asked if it would work with a higher spec card and he recommended class 4, 6 or 10. Isn't u1 the next step up from class 10. It is faster again isn't it?

It is a class10 I am not sure if U1 is just a marketing thing by sandisk but they work in my 2 year old camera etc. Will try it when it arrives but if not I have a 32gb Lexor C10 and a couple of 32gb Samsung C10's floating about other cameras.

Mine will be getting a 800 miles straight drive under it's belt shortly :D Current camera has done about 20000 miles worth of recording which isn't all that much for 2 years old.

Let me know how you get on. Be glad when I can wire it in instead of having a USB cable from the door to the centre console

Those using the mobius what cards are you using in them and how much recording time do you get on them please?

I use 32MB class 10 cards in mine and get about 4 hours recording before they start to over write. Don't get any trouble with overheating as I always use usb power from ignition controlled supply. They switch on when the car starts and off when it stops.

Two videos from tonight, this annoying fat bint firstly (720p as I forgot to change the upload settings)

and this kid who didn't want to get home (1080p)

2nd video is private :(

Rubbish! Sorry fella, all changed. Must remember to check my settings before I upload them

Extra USB x2 and cigarette x2 arrived today from hong kong. It's not brilliant as the bit that goes in the cigarette lighter pops out, but I wasn't planning on using it like that anyway and it works so it's fine.

I have stripped it down and know what I am doing with it. Planning on mounting it next to the glove box, to the left in the alcove where the fuse box is on the driver's side sits. I am also thinking that I will run an extension usb to the cubby above the stereo so that I can power my sat nav from there without the annoying cable trailing from near the handbrake. Will post up some pics of the install if I get a chance this weekend (fingers crossed)

Many sat navs and cams have "unusual"wiring for the usb connector, and require the adaptor that they were supplied with.

Or they don't charge the battery, or go into connected to computer mode

Pete, tested before I took it apart and all good

For anyone who is interested, there is rumoured to be a new lens and CMOS sensor becoming available for the Mobius camera next month.

The lens gives a wider angle, and from the videos I've seen, you'll be able to see the whole windscreen and the A pillar with the new upgrade.

If you want it, you can buy the parts yourself and upgrade, or it will be sold in the new mobius units when it's released. It's going to be about $13 USD for the lens, and $27 for the lens + CMOS sensor (the CMOS sensor is better though)

lol bugger, my Mobius arrived yesterday and I have updated the FW on it to .44 now I hear I am out of date with regards to the hardware lol. I got the suction mount and the self adhesive one to compare and the self adhesive one allows a neater fitting.

Looks dodgy to me.

Really, at that price.

But, at that price, think about going out for dinner and stumbling over a badly cooked pizza...

Anyway, it looks more like a CCTVcam.

It doesn't matter when you buy tech these days, there is always a 'new' one being released just around the corner :)

I am always one step behind :D

Where have you mounted the self adhesive?

Where have you mounted the self adhesive?

Haven't yet just compared the mounts side by side and the self adhesive one is more compact. I was going to fit it at lunch time but in typical tradition of the last 3 years I didn't get a chance to stop all day (had lunch once in last 3 years). I will take a pic when I do but I am in no big rush as I don't plan on driving the thing again for a few weeks.

No probs, will await the update

Some special driving tonight caught on camera
