Women driving Vrs Manual Tdi

Featured Replies

With my size 7s I can't see how anyone with anything short of "clowns' feet" can possibly use their heel to pivot for clucth use. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I would imagine it would lead to a shorter clutch life as it is being riden more like a motorbike clutch would be.

I'm not even a fan of the floor pivoting accelerator as I feel it limits foot positioning through the pushing motion of accelerating.

I've never had my left heel on the floor when using the clutch, it's more of a leg movement as you have the extra strength/control from your thigh, rather than trying to hinge at your ankle. I'd keep

CFB, you see the point.

Most women don't pivot at the heal, they just slide their heel along the carpet to contol the clutch. i'm not saying that this is textbook driving for women, but most small girls just do this because they started with it that way. I drive a tractor quite often, and you are floating over all the pedals all of the time, but you get used to it, as I did, and now don't even think about it.

I'll just have to keep her at it, until she picks it up, or sell it...??

Thanks everyone for all your comments,

Well I ate my own words this morning driving my wife's car. Found myself releasing/engaging the clutch with my heel touching the floor! Just goes to show you drive the car whichever way comes naturally for hat car and its only when you change that you notice the difference.

My wife is tidly too. She doesn't mind driving the car. She looks like Miss Daisy though :giggle:

The only draw back for me is when she forgets to slide the seat back after she's used it. Ouch ! That hurts when i try & get it. :@

That used to really annoy me in my Focus because we would just go out to the shops or whatever in the last car on the drive so she would often drive it. She's 5'5" and I'm 6'2" and she NEVER put it back.

Since I got the Octy she has refused to even sit in the seat let alone drive it. Shame since the bloody key would move everything back into the right position now!

I bet they dont have this problem in Saudi Arabia lol

And they have the cheek to moan when we leave the toilet seat up! :D

I recognise the problem exactly.

It is the only problem I have with the Octavia - after a long commute, with lots of gear changes, my thigh is sore from holding my whole foot / leg above the clutch.

Never in 30yrs of driving have I found such a problem - all my previous cars allowed my heel to rest on the floor and pivot - same as the accelerator.

I've asked a Skoda person if the clutch pedal could be adjusted to reduce the height and length of travel - answer was "No"....

It's the only complaint I have - otherwise it's the best car I've ever had.

When my gf started to drive at 17 i insured her on my hybrid fabia vrs diesel with a helix clutch and smf, she managed no problem and is 5'5 size 3 shoe

Definately new wife time

I posted this question on the Seat Cupra forums, everyone who replied says that they have to lift their leg to operate the clutch. How can you people NOT have to lift your leg?

I remember sitting my wife in the driver's seat (Megane) after putting her on the insurance just after we got married.

"What's that third pedal for?"

Wife removed from the driver's seat, autos ever since :)

I have a serious problem which may force me to change the car

When I bought the car, the salesmen told me the owner had changed the car cos his wife could not get on with it.

I took that with a pinch of salt as sales talk, but my wife is really struggling with the clutch and gears. I love the car to bits, but she continues to complain that the clutch pedal is so high, she can't have her heel on the floor and be able to control the release to get the car away. I've checked it out with other cars and it is around 6 inches from the floor, which is considerably higher than most.

So, is it possible to drop the pedal box down an inch or so to resolve this problem.

The only other way would be to have the DSG version. I'm gutted at this stage as this 2007 car is a minter with 64k on the clock and runs like a dream, with average just over 50mpg...... very impressive car in my opinion.

Anyone else have this problem with their 'dearly beloved'

Or........ anyone fancy a swap from a DSG to a manual send me an email.......

As a woman vRS driver, i feel her pain! I have never been able to put the clutch down with my heel on the floor, my foot does not bend that far up!

But then again, im cheating...iv always driven like this, maybe its a woman thing? Dont advise her to drive with heels, even small ones, the clutch travel is that long the heel will hit the floor before the clutch has :/

Theres nothing i know off to adjust the pedal height, she just needs to learn to have the control in her leg rather then working on a pivot.

What is it with some women and manual boxes? Iv never had a problem!

My RS2 had a vicously heavy clutch, and there was no way you would have depressed it without some thigh input. My wife got along fine at 5'4“ and with size 4s. I'm only a few inches taller but nearly always have to move the seat forward and the wheel all the way towards me so I can feel in control. Reckon that may have something to do with the "spare tyres" - mine's a space saver :-)

The solution ladies is simple though. Just wear a left roller blade boot with the front wheels removed!

I have never driven any car where I could use the clutch just on the pivot of my foot. The travel on the pedal is just too far.

All of them have required me to move my entire lower leg using thigh muscles. Especially my Polo, which had a cable operated clutch, which went around two 90o bends before it got to the gearbox. Heavy is not the word :o

Wife is 5'2" and drives our VRS all the time with no problems.

Seems to be less of a problem in Jaguar. Can be seen quite clearly the ease with which she can rock her heels. jessica-szohr-leggy-candids-in-miami-jaguar-xj-driving-experience-05.jpg

Oh yes, can see it quite clearly now!

I noticed this when I test drove a VRS a few years ago. totally missed the clutch at one point because my foot was under it. I just took this as not being used to the car.

If the cluch needs lowering by a lot then it probably wont be possible. What has your dealer / local mechanic said.

I'm with the others though it's definately a 'daddy or chips?' si****ion.

Hey look at it as an excuse to get a new one with DSG. It's not often you'd the get missus on your side when getting another car. Some of us only dream of this si****ion ;)

_EDIT_

What's with the **** on the word S I T U A T I O N above???

That's the first Jag that I've looked at more than once. There may be some movement at the heel, but I would suggest looking at the whole mechanism which could perhaps be improved with a viscous coupling./.

I'm not sure how I drive my fabbie, but I think I lift my foot up, mainly because I use the conveniently placed foot rest quite a lot which is beside the pedal. I feel this indicates you aren't meant to be sat with your foot resting on the pedal, I know I never do. It's not like the clutch is in constant use, I have never had a sore leg from it?! The only pain I get when driving is ankle ache on long motorway journeys in my right foot, then I remember I have cruise control lol.

Noted how I change gear today and I pivot on to the pedal from the footrest and then as the pedal extends my foot comes off the floor.

I have also just tested mine. heel rests for the accelerator, but I defy anyone to do it with the clutch. The sheer reach of the pedal makes it impossible, even with the biggest of feet! Mine are size 6 and if I start with heel on the floor and ball of foot on pedal, it gets part of the way down and no more. My foot would slip off the pedal before it hit the floor. It's not really anything to do with height, its the fact the pedal doesn't just go down, it goes away from you too.

I seem to rest my heel on the floor and tip of my toe on the clutch between gear changes, so I can easily slip my foot back onto the pedal and press the clutch in, then once I'm at my cruising speed I'll put the foot on the floor or on the foot rest out of the way :) I can't really see a problem with it though.

My wife is 5"1' and size 5 shoe and can drive my diesel VRS with no issues at all.

In fact its one of the only cars of mine that she has ever driven this much, so it must be good as she's a right pain when it comes to driving my motors

I'll echo most of the statements on here: my missus is a little over 5ft, tiny feet and has no issues with the vRS, or my Beemer for that matter. I've also never pivoted any foot on any pedal other than the accelerator! It's impossble and I'd hazard a guess that it's designed that way...

Without being rude, I'd suggest she's using the wrong technique and needs a little education.

Also, quite how you can get a sore thigh from using the clutch is beyond me - it's a vRS not a GT3! Man up! ;)

If you can track it down I think there is a lady driving a vRS on Fifth Gear, series 12 episode 3 (Sep 17 2007). She might have some tips.
