Fave car you've owned?

One of my Favourites was my old Volvo V70R AWD, Yellow with Anthracite wheels, and before it my 850R, rapid in their day.

I really miss my 850 T5. I got it direct from the police where they had chipped it, fitted a bigger turbo / intercooler / exhaust, lowered and fitted V70 brakes (bigger). They'd also removed the rear spoiler (or never had it fitted in the first place) making it an almost ultimate sleeper - at 20 I got some funny looks driving it. :D

What I don't miss is the fuel "economy", it's ability to chew front tyres or some some odd reason it's constant chewing of MAF sensors.

The one I have now, a Fabia 1.9 TDi PD. Hasn't let me down at all since I got the fella. He can be a bit hungry with the front tyres sometimes, but I don't mind. Half of that could be my fault :notme: All I do apart from that is look after him mechanically, wash him now and again and say 'thanks fella'. I think my car would wag his tail if he had one

Ive not had *that* many cars in the 7 years since I passed my test at 17 (9 cars at last count) but my favourites have to be these:

My 2nd car (and my 2nd mini) - spent FAR too much time and money restoring this

The Prelude - I'd have another one of these in a heartbeat!

'Rose tinted glasses' car is without doubt the Belmont 1.8GLSi I had, looked a dog but was the first injected car I had and went like buggery.

Best without doubt was the Vectra GSi I've just replaced with the Vrs. Found out after I bought it that it was a 'press' car and was actually one of the ones Vx used in their dealer brochure postcards (T780XPP).

Bought it at 95,000miles,had it for 8 years and stuck another 55,000 on the clock and it never let me down. Alternator and steering rack failing were the only 'issues' I had but I could 'soldier' the car on until I got them sorted.

The Vrs I think has the potential to be the best but too early to tell at this stage. It certainly is the best car I've had to be in,in terms of refinement.

Hmmmmm, could also have been one that got put round Millbrook a few times on the "fleet previews". The convoy caused quite a stir among the Cavelier rep-drivers pm the way back to Luton down the M1. Still have the 1/250 "limited edition" picture hanging around somewhere. :)

My Volvo 850R has been one of the best but just about to go as I'm sick of chasing a misfire - it's done 222,000 miles though!

One that I was most emotionally attached to was my first S1 Elise, I also loved my Saab 9000 Aero.

Most capable driver car was an Elise with a supercharged Honda K20a - boy did that thing shift!

Although all my Skodas have been great, the best car i've owned was my 1989 Sapphire Cosworth 2wd.

Stage 3, a little over 350bhp, which doesn't sound much but i was 24 when i owned it in 2000, loved every minute of it, and it never let me down once :)

1989 Ford Probe GT, hands down. It wasn't the fastest, it wasn't the most reliable and it wasn't the most comfortable. But God I loved that car. I still carry the key on my keychain.

Second best is my Fabia. Don't care about the lack of power, this little bugger is great.

Has to be the Mex!

Owned it for a year or so 1980-81 and sadly had to go as I couldn't afford the next years insurance - £360 fully comp was a lot of dosh then!

Plonker I sold it to wrote it off within 2 weeks

One of my mates drives one of those. Same baby blue colour too. Except his has a 250bhp redblock in it. Damn, that bugger is fast. The "pocket rocket" we call it. You wouldn't believe how many Ford ST's its shamed.

The Mexico's 98 BHP may seem pretty low by todays standards but IIRC the car weighted in below 900Kg. The 0-60 time of 10.5 sec is slow compared to today's hot hatches but in its day this car went like the proverbial of a shovel. Amazing fun to drive, even with its 165/13 "wide wheels".

Back in1980, I bought a 1977 Fiat 128 3P Berlinetta., it was a 2 + 2 and it went like stink. Lovely body hugging seats that were really comfortable, went round corners like it was on rails, with much tyre screetching, but never let go. Loved every moment of the five years I owned it. But like all Fiats of that era, even though it was well looked after, it rotted like there was no tomorrow. It had to go when the first nipper came along, but it was a sad day for me when it went.

That's not bad at all. I didn't even know it had that powerful engines. My mate had the 1.1l, with 50-ish bhp (CAI and straight pipes).

My overall favourite has to be a 1984 Bedford Astravan 1.3 petrol, and no matter how much abuse i gave it, it never let me down, was used as workhorse, motorhome, passionwagon, drove it like hot hatch, generally used and abused, put a Webber carb and K&N on it was nippy, economical and reliable, probably the only car i regret selling.

Bugger... Should've bought an Octy.... I knew there was a reason i was critical of the Fabias....

Jokes aside. Seriously? An Astravan? Who knew those boring things could get so much action... That sounded wrong.

I've only owned 3 cars in the 7 years I've been driving. My first car was a 1993/94 Citroen AX Forte which was a bit of a heap. one of the plastic skirts was missing, seats were falling apart, and was scary when you went over 50mph!!

Next up was the saxo vtr, which was a great car which only let me down once. And that was the night before I traded her in for the Fabia.

My Fabia has to be the best car I've owned hands down. Comfortable, spacious, quick, economical and a pleaasure to drive and look at. Very stylish :-)

Has anyone else out there ever owned a Triumph Acclaim 1.3 HL/HLS "Triomatic".......... the only automatic car that wasn't actually automatic (3 speeds, 'L', '*' and 'OD')....... it had no clutch, and what looked like a normal 'auto switcher'..... but the difference was that it could not actually change gears itself.

So if you wanted a hill start, or 'low ratio' fast acceleration, you started in 'L' then had to manually change to '*' ( a star: 'normal' drive)..... if you wanted overdrive (low revs, better economy) you manually selected 'OD' at appropriate speeds.

But in between these examples, in normal use, this was a 1 speed automatic! ........ in '*' mode it would pull off using the torque converter, and could achieve top speed ...... in the same gear!! ....... It was like a CVT (continuously Variable Transmission) but without the CVT !!!

really bizarre transmission!
