door seals leaking normal behaviour...

Featured Replies

hello all,

this is not another post about why leaky doors occur but rather what can I expect after applying the fix.

I have done one of my doors, really took my time and slathered on the plumbers gold.

today the heavens opened and on my fixed door there was a very small amount of water on the metal kick plate .

on my non fixed door it was all over the place as expected and I'm doing this one at the weekend.

should I expect a little bit of leakage, is this the normal drainage procedure in operation?

cheers.

I did both my rear doors and have had no water at all since, put plenty of silicone sealer on them.

That would be the outside of the car rather than the inside wouldn't it? Only the rubber seal at the bottom of the door 'frame' being wet on its top surface would indicate a problem to me, anything outboard of that is just the drain holes in the bottom of the door doing their job, no?

cool, thought this was how it worked just wasn't sure where the drainage holes were.

I sealed my doors some years ago and noticed water on the rear passenger seal of one door a couple of weeks ago. I had to have two goes at re-sealing that door before there was no longer any water appearing on the rubber door seal. All good now, and dry as a bone. My first re-attempt led to a reduction in the amount of water, but did not get rid of it completely, while my second application cured it. P.

Its normal to sit on top of the sill, this will just run outside the car then. I did mine a few days ago and have since washed the motor and its ****ed down non stop and i havent got a drip yet, i didnt use a marketing sealant like gold, but used CT1 a snag list eliminating adhesive that sets in any conditions. The only thing i worry about leaking again is where the door card clips go into the door, theres a small rubber washer on them but theyre not great. Hopefully thats in a seperate compartment within the door skin though.

Sealed mine this morning. Fingers crossed for dry carpets!

Order some of the revised ones, they are about 25p each if that and are a different design.

Part number 5J0 867 276 They are more robust and the washer is integral rather

than separate.

Just noticed some water sat on the rubber seal on my front drivers door, looks like I'm doing that tomorrow!

is there a how to guide on this? im useless with anything like this so would need pics lol

60 sodding pence! PLUS VAT!

They do seem more solid though, I had to order a full set as by the time I stripped my doorcards off last week I don't think I had a single original clip in one piece (the rear doors have never been off so I totally raged them off, and I've taken the front ones off before, already broken half the clips, and did the remainder last weekend...), the new ones seem like they'll last better. I'm hoping not to have to take them apart again though, it's been raining pretty solid the last couple of days and so far I have no water on/over the seals, just a little bit on the metal sill plate like the OP, depending on how I've left the car parked. I think it's just running down the A/B/C pillars and pooling there as there's not enough of an angle to run-off properly, so nothing to worry about.

60p each :o :o :o That's taking the p*ss!

They are a better clip though and will take being

pulled out again a few more times than the pale blue ones.

They've gone up since i bought a bag of 'em then.

I bought mine about a year and a half ago.

how many 5J0 867 276 would you require as a full set?

To be honest, I'm not sure. When I rang TPS he just said he had "around 30", which sounded roughly right to me and I wasn't going to argue over possibly paying a couple of quid too much so I said I'd take the lot. When I went to collect them I *think* it turned out to be 26, which was (luckily) exactly enough. Without counting I couldn't be sure though, as there were different numbers in the doors (I think rear doors were 6 each, one front door had 6, one had 7).

edit - which doesn't add up, so in short I don't have a clue! I just bought "a lot" and replaced them until they were all gone, which thankfully coincided nicely with the number I needed :D

I'm sure you could work it out if you needed to from various picture guides for door seal/window regulator repair, as people will have put pictures of the bare doors up and you can count how many holes there are for the clips to go into. Failing that, it's less than 30 so just buy 30 and have a few spares ;)

Cheers dude ill just order 30 then :)
