Diesels really all that great Vs. Petrol? (cost effectiveness)

Featured Replies

drive it like a truck using the 1500-2500rpm wave when I need to get places.

I drive my PD140 between 1250-2500 rpm, seems little point in going over this, but this does mean, sometimes a gear change is required mid corner. .

  • This is my first diesel and I've done only 15k in 19 months, would I rather have a petrol? No, what matters to me is what it's like to drive and I love the way the diesel drives.

  • That's because there's no joy to wringing out a derv

  • If you are doing less than 10,000 miles a year stick with petrol. As others have said, you will pay more for a diesel car, the road tax will be less, but DPF's don't like short journeys, cam belt to

Probably saved you £60 & points.

Did you spot many of the 'Safety Speed clampdown' unmarket vehicles & Camera vans on your journey?

The Blitz should be underway by now.

Theres a bit in todays press & journal about a tourist who got caught doing 127mph, said he didn't know he was doing that speed as he was going down hill (with his foot to the floor). £1000 fine and a 18 month uk driving ban. he does have a problem though, he needs to get the car back from inverness to the hire company but he cant drive it lol.

didnt have enough time to read entire thread but this extra cost to buy nonsense cant be a factor in my opinion, as the resale value will be higher than a petrol car aswell and the saleability of the car is increased too. So overall the extra initial expense is covered every time you trade up.

Yeah, I had heard about the clampdown and was extra careful. Only saw one camera van but must have seen 7 or 8 traffic cars parked up side roads.
