  • The vrs won't have the oil in the system long enough for it to do any damage

  • As someone who fought and won against Skoda.... Twice, you need to keep on at them! I rejected my car after it had 4 new engines in 2 years (they admitted there was a problem) so I'm happy to help you

  • Rag it to the redline on a regular basis from day 1 of ownership and its less likely you'll have issues. End of. Mine runs super sweet with no oil problemo "running in" this way hehe. When I sell it I

Wrong on so many levels...

:D

Update! Car used NO oil during consumption test! Weird car!

Start of this month it used almost a litre on a tankful so I take it in for the test and now it uses none rofl :)

When I mentioned to the dealer it was using too much imo they said to monitor it myself for now and when I knew exactly how much it was using then to bring it back. Strangely I'd gone to them to get more oil because I knew it still needed more to bring it up to the top mark. Went to check while there and it was spot on which I found strange because it needed at least another 200ml. Used just over a tank of fuel and it used 500ml and I'll do another tank to see how that goes before I go back.

Bit gutted really as I was hoping I'd got away with it and had plans for the car like lowering and mapping but not now which is a shame. In the position now where I can't afford to change for a while and my sensible head has kicked in and I want a house so I can forget another new car. I'll keep until the warranty is out and get something else. Judging by the GT86 used prices in 3 years they could be down to a decent price so who knows.

Interesting. I presume you took it on a long drive during the test? I wonder if these cars are more prone to burning oil in regular stop-start traffic, and this is one reason why your test went so well. I suspect a lot of oil is literally going up in smoke on start-up and/or when the motors are not fully warmed up.

I've got this theory too. My journey to work is 7 miles one way, lots of stop start and on a good day I average 15mph and 30mpg

Quite the opposite really - do alot of small journeys - circa 5 miles each way and more at the weekends. Did 70 miles Saturday and 15 miles

Sunday and none used.

Similar use before that except the weather was worse/colder.

Got 200 miles to cover before returning and a 120 mile round trip to do Friday so we shall see what it uses.

Our car does as your does, lots of small journeys and uses oil, on the oil consumption test I took it for a 170 mile drive around North Wales and the thing used nothing!

So I have now left the bonnet closed since the consumption test, car has covered 500 miles and no light on yet, so I will keep driving it, it is also going to be chased around Oulton Park on Saturday 9th Feb so this should aid the running in process a bit

hey everyone, this is my first post on this site.

excellent site, but i was surprised to see pics of a naked man behind a tree LOL.

a bit about me; i am a first time skoda owner and bought a blue Fabia VRS combi in feb this year. All was going well until the oil light went on at 1,800km (3 weeks after purchase). This was totally unexpected so i checked the internet, manual and oil level and refilled asap. i have written to skoda for advice and will contact the dealer to discuss this week.

from reading other posts it looks like I have two options - keep the car and tolerate the regular re-fills or sell it and buy something else - i have developed a soft spot for the car so it looks like i will be keeping it for now. i guess u can love some things even if they arent perfect ;-).

Welcome to the forum.

I do not think you need to put up with High Oil usage.

Get Skoda to provide a vehicle without fault.

george

Welcome to the forum. I agree with George, I have not paid for any of my oil tests, oil, new engine etc. No one should tolerate a new car with such known faults.

Another CTHE oil drinker?

Thanks mate.

I will speak to skoda but dont have high hopes.

If it all gets to much i will trade it for the new Clio RS coming here soon.

If there are any positives from speaking with Skoda, I will let u all know. Cheers.

Another CTHE oil drinker?

doesn't mean it was new in feb. whats your engine code Luke? is it CAVE or CTHE? (its on your logbook ect and the left side (top ish) if the engine block as you look in the engine bay from the front.)

Any way of telling a CTHE from a CAVE with no stickers present?

Mine drinks oil if I thrash it, if I drive like a granny it uses nothing.

That's just how mine is working tho and it could be different to others =).

Mine is pretty much the same Confide, well it seems that way anyway! Only 350/400ml in now 1600miles.. Love it!

mine is a CAVE. rang skoda and the mechanic said he has never heard of the problem (the usual garbage). he said they will do a diagnotic and also mentioned the car only takes one litre of oil to fill up (i thought it was more). If this is correct it means there is nil problem according to the manual ie .5l per 1000km. so am expecting to get the 'all clear'.

i also contacted skoda customer service and they suggested I go to the dealer first for a diagnostic report (which is reasonable).

At least he acknowledged this is a known problem.

Following those phone calls I made some enquiries with Hyundai about buying a veloster but the redbook value for my car is

18-21k and i paid 27k! the veloster is 32k. thats a huge change over. unfortunately the clio rs is not coming until 2014.

decisions decisions. keep or trade....just dont know what to do. its clear skoda/vw are going to give me the same run-around they have given everyone else. i dont plan on making friends with the mechanic lol

the problem is i still love the car but am concerned about ending up on the side of the road. this is the first car i have owned with mechanical 'issues'. grrrr

Are you checking the oil once it has been up to normal running temperature, and do you know it has 3.6 litres of oil in and where that is on the Dipstick,

when cold dipped and after being brought up to 80 degrees celsius and left to sit for a few minutes.

(edit)

0.5 litres in 1000km is in the handbook as a possible usage and in the first 3000km.

VAG/Skoda use that figure in Owners manuals for all engines, thats been there for years and is just covering them selfs.

Skoda know what is acceptable oil usage.

Just be sure you have the correct amount of oil in,

then do your own checks, and if excessive i think your Consumer Protection in Australia is better than the UK's.

george

VW Polo Owners Manual, worded differently,

and Consumption test if the professionals need to do it.

They need to go and check their own Manual if they 'have never heard of etc'.

The REVO sheet just shows some of the historic problems, these should no longer present in the new engines.

I hope you mean 0.5l in 1000km, George...

thanks george, that is very helpful information.

after making a few more enquiries i contacted the mechanic again and he admitted his advice was incorrect.

i am taking the car to the dealership next wed for a diagnostic check. apparently they will drain the oil, refilll and test again in another 1000km. depending on the findings it will determine where to from here....

Reporting in... After dropping the car into the local Skoda dealer, they naturally told me the 2L use since new (7000km) is within tolerance, but they are going to do the breather mod anyway. They added 150ml, which is hopefully a good sign, as it's 900km since I last topped up. If that's accurate, then the rate has slowed slightly to 1L per 5000-ish km.

update: Lance Dixon skoda phoned to advise they are closing down next month and cannot perform the oil consumption test to completion. Have booked my car into the epping dealership to get the work done - in April.
