  • The vrs won't have the oil in the system long enough for it to do any damage

  • As someone who fought and won against Skoda.... Twice, you need to keep on at them! I rejected my car after it had 4 new engines in 2 years (they admitted there was a problem) so I'm happy to help you

  • Rag it to the redline on a regular basis from day 1 of ownership and its less likely you'll have issues. End of. Mine runs super sweet with no oil problemo "running in" this way hehe. When I sell it I

Hey Chris, It's Epping Vic, and the dealership that is closing is in Doncaster.

Melbourne?

Good luck

We had a new engine..The breather pipe 'Fix' made it far worse

how is the new engine going?

did it take long before they replaced it?

It was a week from ordering the engine to them fitting it

In the garage 2 days..New block only...Everything stripped off the old engine and put on the new one

It now uses no oil at all

When I read examples as above of short engine swap it gets me back to my original theory of manufacturing tolerances problems in production of grey iron cast engine blocks. Cylinders are out of tolerance which causes liners to distort and no amount of breather pipes, ECU uptades, piston rings swaps can address that, only block swap. Looks like in Chris's case that is what it was as all the rest was swapped from the original, oil guzzling engine...

good to know. thanks fellas.

How is your engine going Jabo?

my 'new' engine has used 1ltr of oil in 1012 miles, while it was in for some work on the brakes thats what the garage found :(

it was fine upto 600 miles and then i never checked

How is your engine going Jabo?

It is pulling the car along, burning petrol and starting each time I turn the key :D.

But seriously I think I am one of the no overly problematic ones.

It is at 4,800 miles give or take and If I was to top it up to where it should be the oil consumption would be at around 1.5 - 1.75 litrs mark.

Sometimes it has a rough idle when I start it up after work for my journey home but if I switch it off and on again it idles fine - rather weird I must say. Looks like ECU issue/sensor readings wrong?

I bought Castrol Edge Professional 5-W30 Long Life III and genuine VAG spare oil filter as I am intendig to drop the oil and send a sample to be lab tested. I think she deserves a frsh filter and fresh juice coursing through her veins :).

I still enjoy the car very much, having more and more fun with the flappy paddles, exploring the limits of grip or granny driving while listening to an audio book or stewing over something in my head. I love the car for the ability to drive along with much reduced mental imput. Safety awarness satys the same as this by now a second (first when behind the wheel?) nature.

Sounds good to me! Glad to hear its not a heavy drinker (apart from the fuel!)

I got myself some Castrol Edge 5W-30 and in approximately 2000 miles now only burnt through 400-450ml so around the same usage as your engine, although I had noticed it turned a black colour rather rapidly. I've not noticed any idling differences from each start up myself.

I have to admit I enjoy the gearbox extensively, such a great bit of tech right there! Just want a Milltek Cat-back now and then i'll be 100% happy!

My oil is Diesel engine like, completely black and stinks to high heavens of petrol - hence me wanting to lab test it. Failures caused by petrol getting into oil and washing oil off the bores can be either very sudden and dramatic or can take quite a while to manifest themselves.

Ahh.. Erm.. Mine is the same and stinks of fuel. Maybe I should also look into that then! It has only done it within the last 200 miles or so but was rapid from the golden/ green colour of the oil to almost jet black.

Does anyone know 100% what the differences between the CAVE and the CTHE engines are?

There is a list somehere around here. From what I remeber new rings, oil pump, breather pipe, something in valve train... Some other bits I cannot remember...

I assume my replacement engine had these modified parts. Still not overly sure if it was a factory refurbished unit, but it looked new to me. The engine had no number and takes on the identity of the old engine, although the exchange is noted in the car's service record.

By the way Jabo, I took your running-in advice and the new engine has used virtually no oil over the first 1,600 miles.

I would imagine the fact the oil is getting black is in some ways a good sign: it is picking up the crap in the "system" rather than leaving it in there. Mine has gone a sort of olive-y brown shade after 8000km. Not sure if I should change it or wait for the first service. It's getting a breather mod soon, so I might see how that affects consumption of the existing oil before doing anything. For the record, it used approx 2L of oil in the first 6000 km, but only (apparently) about 150ml in the next 8-900km. I haven't seen a need to add any in the last 1000km, but today it's due for its weekly inspection.

Little update on mine.

Had the oil breather pipe fitted and it's now much worse on oil consumption.

Eg. Filled up to the maximum with oil. Driven 192 miles and just checked it again. Used approximately 600ml. Brilliant!

My dealer said I had to wait 3 months after having the pipe fitted so it can do it's job. I don't think so. I'm going back tomorrow. I'll have a new engine thanks!

Not a happy owner right now.

Sorry to hear that mate... To cheer you up Skoda now makes much less fuss with authorising new engines under warranty

Double post thanks to iPhone lol

Holy Jesus! :wall:

Hope you manage to get a brand new engine sorted ASAP!

That's rubbish. No way should you wait that long. Push for the new engine. The majority of posts relating to this on Briskoda suggest that the breather fix made no difference to oil consumption or made it worse. Make sure you contact SUK.

Went to the dealer today, spoke to the usual guy who was horrified when I showed him my empty oil bottles etc and the mileage that I had done since having the breather pipe fitted.

"I'll make some calls to skoda today sir about getting a new engine and I'll phone you this afternoon".

No phone call ever came......

I think it's time to turn this up a notch!

Speakers to dealership's manager. They might have had no call back from Skoda themselves...

If no reply by tomorrow lunchtime, then get onto SUK - or thats what I would do. It won't stop drinking oil just because they're waiting to call you back.
