Not too many cars that remain 243 at the wheels. Knew that the 1.8tsi lump can achieve good figures, but didnt realise it could achieve that much.

I've never really been one to get hung up on the peak figures but over 300bhp and 300lb/ft from a K04 conversion still utilising the standard air intake and exhaust system... And on an 1800cc engine... That's good going. :-) A massive thanks to Ben for the mapping expertise and the regular updates. I really appreciate whats hes managed on her this week, especially given the tight time frame. :-)

Funny - you guys are actually spot on, just in from doing my local back road country route for the third time tonight...

Two words - 'total weapon'!

As an all round performance machine, it's incredibly good now. I'll type some more when I'm not so knackered (4+ hours on the train, almost 4 driving back one plus a very late night last night hosting a fireworks party!)

Some quickies from me on my experience so far... (remembering the brakes aren't yet bedded in, the tyres are down to 2.5mm (I usually change at 3mm) and the alignment feels very out (I told Ben I'd sort this as I have new tyres arriving in 48hrs and have arranged to have it done at 'wheels in motion' down here).

The brakes are superb, incomparably better to the S3 345mm setup I had previously run on the Octy VRS. You can feel that the clamping force of the pistons is far greater and best of all, it's the first mainstream vag vehicle that I've ever driven that gives such good feedback and feel through the pedal; you can modulate them brilliantly, and when you want it to slow hard, it really does.

The handling has moved up ten notches with the polybushes and arb's - im sure mainly down to the bars. I need to check how they've been setup as I requested soft both front and rear initially - basically, there is no lean in bends now! I'm reserving judgement on the bushes until I've had the alignment done. Turn in and general 'directness' has improved a lot.

Power wise, In ultimate terms, it isn't as 'drivable' as it was with the stage 1 software. It now lacks a little of the low down diesel style grunt ive become accustomed to. To a very large degree, simple physics dictates that a small turbo with a stage 1 map is going to spool faster and pull from lower down with less revs required to produce boost compared to a larger turbo... Once it's up to 2,500-3,000 however, all hell starts to break loose and it pulls hard, very hard, all the way to the redline. It's a rapid thing and pulls harder, for longer than the REVO stage 2+ 280bhp/335lb/ torque fwd Octavia VRS stage 2+ I previously owned.

What I do need to do (before my eye lids finally drop...) is thank Ben and Mark. I know for a fact that Ben has really put the hours in on this car, well after normal business hours and has always kept me in the loop with progress. It's so nice to deal with a tuner that doesn't treat the customer like an idiot but is also happy to take the time to explain the more complex stuff. I find it all very interesting so I'm very thankful to him for this, especially when this time is at unsociable hours like today's Sunday afternoon opening in between two of his personal engagements! :-)

It's a pleasure being involved in a project like this! I hope you thoroughly enjoy the car, it's been a real fun job at our end and certainly one for the company scrap book!

From what Focusztec said about it losing some of the low down pull, I don't see this a problem l would have thought this will help surely in the snow etc so you are better off having the power higher in the rev range, its more usable on the faster roads.

No. I know its producing less torque at any given point below, say 2,500rpm compared to what it was before with the stage 1 map and standard IHI turbo.

However this engine was designed to give good low down torque when paired with the OE turbo - it flat lined torque from 1500rpm from the factory which is exceptional in itself but then the quality of the Shark stage 1 remap just extended that to alow it to boost even earlier and give even more torque. Compared to any other stage 1 map ive had on a car, the Shark stage 1 map was easily the best. We didnt get a chance to do a dyno run on the stage 1 setup as they had already got her on the ramps to do some mechanicals within 30 mins of me dropping her off. Shame, as Id like to have seen it also.

Its also worth remembering that Ben has had very little mapping time with this car, he didnt even have a K04 1.8TSi base map to start with so he's achieved a lot in just over a day (although it was a very long day)! Theres things that can be done to help the torque lower down the rev range and its also interesting that he's managed to get these great results without pushing the turbo. At just 1 bar of boost it was giving me S3 levels of performance - 265bhp. Its holding at just 1.3 now to achieve 300bhp/300 lb/ft. The turbo is good for 1.5-1.6 bar all day long from what Ive read.

If you want a Golf R drivetrain with the additional flexibility that the Yeti offers its an awesome combination. Im very glad on the brake clearance issue also, it could have been one of the sticking points for the project as it was unknown territory! Theres also more clearance than what I originally stated - Id guess at 8mm but I'll post some pics of it with the wheel in place.
