Where's my 'dislike' button when I need it :(

the yellow van to the rescue! just a mere inconvenience, all for the small cost of a rocker cover gasket, get it changed and it will be fine once it burns the excess oil off.

Think of the fuel saving with the yellow van dragging you home.

That's a sad sight :( at least you got a little further than I did. My boost pipe popped off just as I pulled out of the gate. Had to run back in to borrow a screwdriver lol

I'm not sure it is just the rocker gasket, especially seeing all the pools of oil on the floor under the car. Would 1/2 an engine load of oil be able to escape out the rocker gasket??

Glad you got it sorted out. :D

yes, I left the filler cap off the Passat once and it was a mess! Remember, oil is like blood, it looks bad but usually it isn't that bad.

Be positive and have a look this week.

Will do and i've got a socket set from Halfords but one of the bolts on the cover is a bugger to get to. I'll check it at the weekend or one of the nights if i can get out of work early.

Take your time and if you get stuck ask.

that was you was it! I was about to pull over when I saw your hazards flashing but you got back in so I carried on.

Sorry to read about this, John :( Hope you get it sorted mate, and nice to meet you and Deeps yesterday

if i wasn't going away for 2 weeks tomorrow i would be over to help fix it! damn! sorry to hear about it but at least you had a good time at combe!

Yep that was me. Just about to pull off as you passed.

And John yes you can lose that much oil from the rocker cover. The day before I traded in my saxo it developed a pin size hole in the oil filter. Big smoke and lost all the oil within 70 miles

No worries mate, thanks for the thought.

Cam cover gasket changed and engine appears to be running fine with no signs of smoke/leaks, touch wood it stays like that. :)

As said in my other thread, many thanks for the offers of help and advice on here, Facebook and messenger.

Well done mate, you now need to clean the tools and get your money back at Halfords

Just keep an eye on things over the next week but I am sure your handy work has cured it!

Maybe i should clean up the original gasket and return that to ECP!! :D

Tools i'll keep, you never know when they'll come in handy. :)

Excellent that is good to hear :)

Well done mate, good to hear it's all fixed.

Time will tell but cheers and hope i don't have to do it again. :) I thought it was all done last time until it decided to split its sides at Combe.

Just a thought, have you checked your breather hoses to check they are not blocked? If the rocker cover gasket burst as a result of crankcase pressure then it will go again, just take the breathers off and check might be worthwhile.

I'll check that out, cheers.

Just thought, i'm running the elephant mod with a catch can and i was getting smoke coming out of the filter leading off the catch can, so would this suggest the breather hose is fine or are there other hoses i should check??

Also, just to add, the only reason i changed the gasket a few weeks ago was because i needed to change the cam cover after cracking my original one, so decided to put a new gasket from ECP on there.

Went for a drive today and no signs of any smoke/steam coming from the engine area, just getting quite a lot of it from the filter on the elephant mod. Opened up the catch can today and no signs of oil in there but it's a bit concerning seeing the amount of smoke coming out the filter.

Does anyone else have a lot of smoke coming out of theirs??
